Thank you for braving the rain to make this latest video. What an amazing find and image. Just shows it pays to be observant and pay attention to nature's details
I admire your determination to get this image in those conditions. The texture is extraordinary, but I also really like the graduations of colour from green to warmer hues in places. I agree it is coral like and I think the combination of those textures and the colours give that coral-like appearance. And I also think it may well be some wood in its final stages of decomposition.
OH my goodness Simon the textures, colors, and your tenacity gave us a beautiful image. Thanks for going back to find it. Glad you did. Have a great week.
I think that perhaps this comes into the 'bonkers' category!😄 such skill and dedication to return to a scene, spend time in pouring rain to capture an image, previsualised from the previous day! Absolutely astonishing, I think I would have stopped at that fine breakfast! You are a true slave to the art, and thank you for sharing with us! Hope everything dried out including your vlogging camera?😀
I'll never moan again when I miss focus while shooting in the warmth of my lounge!! thank you Simon for going to the extreme lengths you did to bring us that lovely image 🙂
Your hard work and persistence truly brought a superb image of the greatest designer that which is nature! Wonderful shot showing how the natural world is. Top photographer Simon... 🙏🏽💫
Said it before and I'm going to say it again Simon, you just have the ability to pull a great image out of what seems at first a hopeless situation not once but many times viewing your back catalogue. A wet but enjoyable short vid. there.👍
Very definitely worth the effort and the soaking - an amazing find and a superb photo Simon. At least your 'brolly' stayed the right way out so was of some use. Thanks for the effort involved in capturing this image.
What a stunning image, Simon. I am amazed that you were able to find the exact spot again. Your decision to stay in the Lake District on Sunday and your perseverance have paid off handsomely. Another great video. I got soaked on Sunday trying to photograph near Ambleside.
Beautiful intimate landscape Simon... worth searching the park/pathway for indeed 🙂 I think I may have included a frame of the fallen brown leaves for more context ( a little tighter than what we saw at approx 9:15 and a 16:9 crop... but this was beautiful abstract texture image I would happily print and hang on the wall 🙂
It was always going to be the abstract for me Dave. I like images that make you wonder what it is whilst at the same time are pleasing to view. The leaves would have given all that away. I’m not sure what they would have added. But then we’re all different in our likes and dislikes.
Top tip. Take a photo with your mobile phone for reference then check the gps coordinates in the meta data. I use a pixel but I believe most up to date phones have this feature. Thanks for another fun video 📸
@@bluste63 I did but the Apple phone doesn’t show you in relation to the photo location. I tried the satellite view to get a better idea but the objective was beneath the tree canopy.
Interesting to read through the comments and see a number of people were thinking, as I was, that you were going to shoot it with a frame of Autumn leaves around it. But reading your replies I totally understand why you didn't. I would have shot it from all angles and distances and none of them would have been any good. You knew exactly what you wanted from the start and came away one perfect image. And that's why we all follow your videos so keenly.
That's very kind of you Tony. You could be forgiven for saying that I have tunnel vision, and it could be true. I generally know what I want and don't budge as a result.
Nice video and lovely images, Simon. I really like watching you compose, and hearing your thoughts as you do so. P.S. I quite enjoy shooting in the rain. 🌧️😂
Thank you,Shaun. I do love shooting in the rain but having to juggle photography and video is not really for me if I’m honest I find that I’m not really in the zone like I would otherwise be when my mind is focused on keeping things dry and safe.
@@SimonBoothPhotography Indeed Simon, the struggle is real. 😅 I try to trust the waterproofing of my R5 and occasionally wipe it with a towel. For my video camera, the M50 ii, I cover it with a makeshift ziplock bag to keep it dry. It works fairly well. Changing lenses, adding filter, and keeping your lens dry is made much more challenging.
Nice find, and nice image! From your video footage, I kind of liked the leaves around it as a frame. Do you think it would have been possible to get another good image with a taste of the leaves, which would also give a sense of scale?
Not for me really. I tend to like where possible, images that have no indication of what they are of or where they were captured, so they can be enjoyed for only the shape colour and texture. For me at least, any other version of this would have been a lesser quality image. I'm just not sure what more the image would have to say by adding the leaves.
I’ve come to the conclusion that it definitely is a fungus David. But what seems to have happened is that it has died off and left the internal parts still visible. I would say it’s a bracket fungus but which species is impossible to know.
The image is beautiful. I have wondered why you crop so tightly in the viewfinder? When I take such a shot, I zoom out or move out a little to allow some additional room in the image in case I want to rotate the image, or crop it to 16:9 or leave a little room for a whole variety of reasons. I understand why you would crop so tightly in the film days, but why do you continue to in the digital era?
That is coral How did it get way up there I don't have a freaking clue dude But definitely worth getting back to You might want to put that on a GPS coordinates so you can get back to it within 2 ft
In all honesty I’m pretty sure I could find it again now. I did take a picture of it with my phone the day before so I knew I was in roughly the right area.
Thank you for braving the rain to make this latest video. What an amazing find and image. Just shows it pays to be observant and pay attention to nature's details
Absolutely Steve
I am always inspired by your photographs as well as your tenacity to track down the intimate landscapes!
It's an enjoyable pursuit Mark. Thank you.
Simon, your dedication to your craft is evident in every shot!🙂 You inspire so many of us to see the world through a more artistic lens 🙌
Awe thank you Danilyn

You are very welcome as ever.
You Rock Simon-rain in the summer great! Rain in the winter, not so much-I appreciate your effort and the video/photo. 💙.
It was certainly a battle that one. I was a little bit glad when it was over.
A stunning image in not the best conditions, thanks for all the effort!!
Far from the best conditions I would say Andrew. I was exhausted by the end of that session.
Nice video and what a lovely image with the lines and colours brilliant. Breakfast looked good too.
Breakfast just may have been the highlight. I do love a good full English brekkie.
Amazing photograph... worth all the trouble it took to capture!
Many thanks!
Thank you for braving the rain to do this video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
You are so welcome!
Awesomeness 👌

Ha ha ha. Now there's a video idea?
Very wet and rainy but you did a damn good job thank you very much for taking us alone
I was so glad when that one was over. It was a full weekend of constant rain.
Your hard work and persistence truly brought a superb image of the greatest designer that which is nature! Wonderful shot showing how the natural world is. Top photographer Simon... 🙏🏽💫
Nature truly is amazing when you get in close.
Amazing subject, Simon. That you saw it at all is something to me. Needle in a hay stack so to speak. Reminds me of coral too.
Wasn't the easiest thing to re-find I can tell ya.
Said it before and I'm going to say it again Simon, you just have the ability to pull a great image out of what seems at first a hopeless situation not once but many times viewing your back catalogue. A wet but enjoyable short vid. there.👍
It was a real battle that one Glenn. I don’t mind the rain but not when you’re juggling photography and video. Cheers for watching.
What a find, Simon. Well worth the effort!
Thanks David
Outstanding Simon and remarkable observation in finding your subject in very challenging conditions. The end result was well worth the effort .
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching.
Fantastic image! I think it was worth the trouble. I'm not sure I have seen anything quite like that before. Thank you for bringing us along.
Me neither to be honest. Not in a woodland that is.
Outstanding effort, Simon! The result is fantastic, and I believe it was most definitely enhanced by the conditions .
Thanks Scott
Always a pleasure watching your videos
Thanks for watching
You’re patience paid off Simon, you created an amazing image 👍
Thank you so much. I’m really pleased with how the image turned out. It’s a lovely abstract.
Wonderful shot! Thank you. Loved the persistence on this one.
It was a bit of a battle that’s for sure. Cheers.
Excellent image, thanks to looking for detail and serious endurance!
Simon...you're persistence is inspiring 🍻
It was wearing a bit thin I can tell you.
OMG! What an unusual and absolutely original image. Stunning.......
Thank you! Cheers!
Very inspirational image Simon ❤
Enjoying your book. And this vlog is wild dedication to your craft.
Thanks ever so much for buying the book. Your contribution really helps, cheers.
Just Brilliant Simon , what an eye
Thank you
That one image was well worth the effort in terrible conditions- it has an almost alien feel to it, amazing structures
Thanks Steven

I got soaked on Sunday trying to photograph near Ambleside.
At least I wasn’t the only one then. Crazy to think that you went out in that twice.
Wow an amazing shot albeit a terrible day, the image of the light refreshment was good as well 😁xx
That breakfast was delicious. X
Sensational image. Macro lens for Christmas!

@ my Pentax body is waterproof but none of the old lenses I use are. They already have fungus.
@Oh, no. Definitely cause for caution and concern. ☔️
Was realy worth walking in the rain :-).
I really miss the sound of rain on a metal roof (being in Phoenix now.....). Indeed, that shot was worth looking for.
It's very soothing for sure.
Need some coffee myself, be London june 1-4. (No snow) lol

Mainly because I like to get it right in camera and I generally I tend to know the aspect ratio I want to use for the given subject.
Goodness, that was like finding a needle in a haystack well done on locating it again. what was the actual object.?
I'm of the opinion that it's a fungus. Probably a bracket fungus, which is in a state of decay.
