I literally have a friend who makes jokes about her mom unintentionally (and intentionally) who died when she was young... But genuinely I've grown so used to it at this point

Now of course I wouldn't do that, I've shared a lot of breakdowns with her with my own experience (best friend died first day of my sophomore year) so I don't really judge. It a way of coping but of course it can be unintentional as well

This makes me want to redraw my weird “furry” comic/manga that I did when I was super young. (It was inspired by the littlest pet shops toys I used to play with, and made more anthropomorphic). Like yours I guuuuess you could say it was a self insert because the characters were somewhat inspired by people I knew, and the events in the story were loosely based on events in my life, but I dunno...the mc I made wasn’t very much like me. But I think it’s natural to sort of project yourself on the main character you’re writing no matter what, even if they aren’t exactly everything you are. So imo people shouldn’t punish themselves so much for having “self inserts.”
