Mads Bauer I feel ya when I heard Justin (as Taako) taking the first step with that 'Who?' In the conversation. It hurts but damn if that wasn’t super good 😣
i know this is emotional but despite being lowkey in tears, i can still appreciate taako's killer fashion sense. the outfit you gave him? mwah * sad chef kiss*
I remember that bit at the very end when it starts fading into static and Griffin sounds so distressed, I was like fully crying in public walking down the street lmao
“...as you fall to the deck of this ship, that has served as your home for 100 long years, you realize...You dont know where you are!***-“ ...thats the part that always kills me. just forgetting some of the most basic, important things
Same! I love the way he delivers the lines during Magnus’s flashback that takes place on their original world, where he talks about the sky’s color and the two suns
AlexG911 fair, but since it was a campaign made with the intent of entertaining the public rather than a regular at home game, Griffin had to take measures to make sure everything worked cohesively. Besides, his brothers and dad were alright with it and enjoyed it, too, so no harm’s done! It’s their game and they played their way :)
Justin's timing in that scene keeps being absolutely amazing to me. Like, he knew what Griffin wanted and just NAILED it, and it continues to be fucking bone-chilling. I love your Taako a lot, too, and both of your characters are so wonderfully emotive! Lovely lovely work
It's always great to see the brothers on the exact same wavelength, both dramatically and comedically. The sibling connection both in and out of fiction is makes this one even better
I’ve never heard anyone splice together the heart clip with the rest of this audio and it seriously hit me like a freight train and I started crying instantly
I really love your decision to have the blasting just be Justin’s text! That line is the one that personally hits me the hardest in this whole scene, the idea that Taako is frantically trying to help this person he doesn’t remember and the urgent way that Justin says it, and to suddenly see it in print in the middle of the scene hits me hard in the best way
I'm kind of glad they're going back to D&D for the next arc so TAZ can get back some of its lost popularity, some people are saying that D&D isn't as good for storytelling but this right here proves it can be just fine. Yes, I realize Stolen Century was a different system Griffin made up but they didn't really use either for this episode, there weren't really any rolls of either system, and the majority of this story was D&D.
I think the bulk of the plot twist was spent in Stolen Century. Other then that though, I think TAZ was an amazing story. I think one of my favorite arcs was petal to the medal, which was entirely DND and had a lot of story to it.
idk why the system matters honestly, both balance and amnesty were amazing stories and i loved both of them. dnd purists getting pissy over that is just so stupid, it's still Griffin's storytelling, just a different way of playing????
@@starglittersys people forget fantasy doesn't need to be gritty or realistic. Fantasy always been mystical and wonderous. Which is what TAZ is. A lot of my favorite fantasies rely on mysticism and wonder (Wheel of Time, Stormlight Archive and Middle-Earth, KingKiller Chronicles) because it allowed me to escape, which is why I adore TAZ a lot. TAZ was never meant to be serious, it was always been a show about family and endurance.
Yeah this moment is devastating, but I’m consistently blown away by Justin’s timing and roleplaying here. He 100% understood the assignment and the first “who?” gives me chills every time
oh ok. i see. really just gonna sucker punch me right there at the end huh? really just gonna drop in that "you Are my heart" right then, really rubbin salt in the wound huh? is that what we're doing here? OOF
God Justin taking that first step always gives me chills. I love that he was able to read the situation well enough to know where it was going and play into it.
God we did this arc yesterday in our campaign and I almost cried. Our DM portrayed Barry’s frantic manner so well as he started to forget, as well as Davenport’s and Lucretia’s
dalton allen Our DM kept the campaign the same save for our characters. He added in the originals as mentors and our PCs’ mentors determines what relic we made :0
The "Who?"gets me but the moment right after Griffin says "you realize you don't know who that is" that small window of Silence makes my stomach do flips.
I had a lot of this stuff spoiled for me and had even seen this before I got to it in the podcast, and even still, it freaking wrenched my heart out, these boys are just too good at what they do, all of them
Wow out of all the animations I've seen this one's perfect, cause it made me remember he didn't have the umbra staff at that time. Since there are so many that show him have it when he blast Berry
I opened RUclips to put on music so I could do my French homework but now I'm crying instead. and I'm completely okay with that because this is really good.
This got recommended to me for no reason a while ago. This and one other animation is what got me to get caught up to this point in the adventure zone. Good work you’re doing
haha i listened to the very first 14 episodes of this series and couldn't catch up for the life of me. looking at how far it's come makes me emotional with some kind of bittersweet jealously. looks really cool, even completely out of context.
I love TAZ so much, but this part is gut wrenching because I have a neurological condition that causes memory loss that gets worse over time. That brief moment of "oh no it's happening again" followed by just brain static is exactly what it's like. It's brutal to watch/listen to, but it makes me feel so much more connected with the story and characters
The thing about "you don't know where you are"...usually it means "you don't recognize the place you are". But Taako literally has where he is pulled out of his brain. He cannot perceive where he is. I can't imagine what that's got to be like, until.he manages to wander to somewhere new...
I have watched this so many times and it just now hit me, out of all the things Griffin could have said at that moment the very first thing Barry forgot was Lup's face WHILE LOOKING AT HER TWIN?!
HI I JUST FINISHED STOLEN CENTURY YESTERDAY AND I’M CRYING UNCONTROLLABLY AGAIN THANKS this is so good but god this scene just fucking kills me and I feel like I’ve just been punched in the gut at you including that quote from Lup at the end
haha fun mcelroy podcast where a man begs his best friend to murder him when he forget's his lover's face haha
*griffin dabs in the distance*
i have to think about griffin voring yoshi every time i listen to this so i don't go completely insane
Just want to point out he forgets his lovers face while looking at her identical twin
@@exon5336 I- I didn’t think about this, you’ve ruined this scene for me, go sit in the corner and think about what you’ve done
@@Duck-mn8xp oh I know what I've done. I need others to cry with 😢
Even after all this time that 'Who?' makes my stomach drop. I love your art style. And the decision to add Lup's quote to the end? Fantastic.
Mads Bauer I feel ya when I heard Justin (as Taako) taking the first step with that 'Who?' In the conversation. It hurts but damn if that wasn’t super good 😣
the art and designs are based from the graphic novel it seems
I love that the hitch in Griffin's voice. Like, Justin absolutely took Griffin by surprise. He didn't expect that at all
@@Juniper_Rose all of Justin's best moments are him surprising everyone with his character acting
Adding Lup's "You are my heart" after is such a good bit because it hurts so much
Boi did it hurt
Taako: so anyway, I started blasting
thank you for that brief reprise from the pain i feel from watching this video
i know this is emotional but despite being lowkey in tears, i can still appreciate taako's killer fashion sense. the outfit you gave him? mwah * sad chef kiss*
Rami Koh I’m gonna steak that sad chef kiss, because that’s perfection right there
hahahaha thank you ^-^
Sad chef kiss is my reaction to the entire finale omg
"Sad chef kiss" is the phrase I've been grasping for in my bean all this time
My tears salt the meat.
Oh god, your Lup is perfect. Your Taako is perfect. And your Barry is pretty great too.
Good job.
Me: knows exactly what this is and what happens and how it's going to make me feel
Also Me: Clicks it anyway
same
I remember that bit at the very end when it starts fading into static and Griffin sounds so distressed, I was like fully crying in public walking down the street lmao
I listened to it at my plant nursery job and I was literally sobbing while propagating begonias. The Davenport sobs ruined me
I was picking up trash on a beach in front of a theme park, and I was genuinely crying. Got a few looks.
“...as you fall to the deck of this ship, that has served as your home for 100 long years, you realize...You dont know where you are!***-“ ...thats the part that always kills me. just forgetting some of the most basic, important things
I mean, they didn't know in the first place since it wasn't their backstory, it was griffin's magical railroad...

Saaaaaame
Im watching this WHILE listening to the podcast. XD.
Me too
yOUR BARRY IS HOT
One day I may be able to experience this scene without crying. But today is not that day.
I’ve never heard anyone splice together the heart clip with the rest of this audio and it seriously hit me like a freight train and I started crying instantly
The improv in this episode is still my fav, like the like “who” is so simple yet so powerful and I’ll never forget it
Stuff like this is what makes me want TAZ to get a fully animated show
That one dislike is Barold not remembering which button is the like button
I really love your decision to have the blasting just be Justin’s text! That line is the one that personally hits me the hardest in this whole scene, the idea that Taako is frantically trying to help this person he doesn’t remember and the urgent way that Justin says it, and to suddenly see it in print in the middle of the scene hits me hard in the best way
It feels weird hearing the "Who?" without Clint's laugh after...
Amazing job! One of the best moments of TAZ!!
this made me cry so hard,, you did such a good job on this
awww thank you!!
I love how well the McElroys can take what the other one is hinting at. the immediate “who” from Taako? they nailed this scene so much
That "who" still gets to me but then you adding Lup's quote at the end destroyed me.
God Barry’s smile is that got me here, and adding the “you are my heart” line??! Who gave you permission to get me in the heart :-;
Your Lup is adorable and the expressions are perfect
It’s been years since I finished listening to Balance. And it still makes me tear up
oh my goodness. the lup quote at the end..... how did you manage to make this scene somehow even more heart-wrenching??? your style is incredible...
me, sobbing over the adventure zone in 2019 bc this mf animatic made me relisten to the whole thing again??
god u better BET
I was already crying but the inclusion of “you are my heart, you know that right” definitely broke me JEEZ

The magic isn't in the system; it's in these boys.
Ironically, the system used in Stolen Century was a tweaked version of what they use in Amnesty.
I remember starting TAZ and being like 'haha dicks and goofs.' and then suddenly UNIMAGINABLE PAIN!
Yeah this moment is devastating, but I’m consistently blown away by Justin’s timing and roleplaying here. He 100% understood the assignment and the first “who?” gives me chills every time

Its so insane that Im actually WEEPING over this- it still hits me as hard as it did the first time
stolen century will forever be my favorite arc even years later... the sheer lore it gave us is unfathomable.

Like... you know it happens eventually, and the setup is so clear, but when it hits you... man, when it hits you... dammit, Griffin.
OW. It’s gorgeous. Taako’s teardrops. OWWWW. WHO gave you the RIGHT
Also when Griffin says "you realise you don't know where you are" kills me every time
Bruh I've never even listened to 1 single episode of the podcast and even I felt that "who?"
first of all, how DARE YOU,
this is so good i'm crying over this gosh dang show AGAIN
I get so happy yet so sad whenever I hear the line: “You are my heart. You know that right?”
Found this clip randomly and got full body chills and cried. The whole memory loss plot is so devastating.
Oh wow, this is some brilliant character design! :D Love your take on the Nerd Trio!
thank you so much!!!
im so glad a single syllable is now the most painful thing to me thanks to his comedy podcast
oh by the ancients, rewatching tAZ podcast again and this gets in my recommendeds... in tears again. beautiful beautiful art thank you
I opened RUclips to put on music so I could do my French homework but now I'm crying instead. and I'm completely okay with that because this is really good.
I don't think Taako's "who?" will ever NOT make me fucking cry. Well played, Justin. Well played.
IVE GOT SUCH BRAINROT IVE BEEN WATCHING TAZ VIDEOS FOR HOURS THIS IS SO GOOD IT MAKES ME CRYYY
It's been years, why you got to make me feel this sad again over a dnd campaign? Ugh, wonderful art
AND THAT LAST PART JUST REALLY HITS IT HOME.
The emotion in this moment is just so raw, and you capture Taako's dawning sense of horror really well.
your lup design is my everything holy heck
Screaming and crying it still HURTS
I love your design of Lup so much! This is an amazing animatic Barry's breif pained smile hurttt
man. man. man. man. i havent thought of this in so long but seeing taako in the thumbnail and the "who?" and . man. man.
This got recommended to me for no reason a while ago. This and one other animation is what got me to get caught up to this point in the adventure zone. Good work you’re doing
There are very few things that can bring me to tears in under two minutes. So, thanks?
HOW CAN I HAVE WATCHED/LISTENED TO 1000 ITERATIONS OF THIS AND STILL BE BROKEN EVERY TIME?!
oh my god how many times have I heard this and watched animatic versions of this and I'm still SOBBING
Glad to see after all this time balance still gets the love it deserves. I love your style! Keep it up!
Your art: :D
My heart: :,(
How dare-
hOw darE you play with my heart with your amazing art style and the best podcast known to man-
I finished Balance a year and a half ago. This popped up on my youtube recommended and brought back all the heartache i felt when i first heard it
have you got no shame? making me cry over this scene in our good lord's year 2019?
THE LAST LINE LITERALLY MURDERED ME
"You are my heart, you know that?"
*tears well up* how could you...
This is absolutely amazing, I love the art style and the audio..... TIME TO SEARCH THIS UP TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON HERE-
You killed me with this, it’s so beautifully done, and lup’s “you *are* my heart” at the end, KILLS ME.
haha i listened to the very first 14 episodes of this series and couldn't catch up for the life of me. looking at how far it's come makes me emotional with some kind of bittersweet jealously. looks really cool, even completely out of context.
oh my god this is fantastic ;__; it’s so nice to see new TAZ content still being made!! and the little clip at the end......my emojis,,,
Your Taako and Lup are so beautiful! Also adding Lup's line at the end was a perfect touch.
This still breaks my heart wow. My stomach drops so hard at "Who?"
This animation finally motivated me to go listen to Balance while waiting for new episodes of Graduation.
OMG NOOOO HOW COULD U ADD THAT LAST BIT FROM LUP!!! IM SOBBING!!!
I love TAZ so much, but this part is gut wrenching because I have a neurological condition that causes memory loss that gets worse over time. That brief moment of "oh no it's happening again" followed by just brain static is exactly what it's like.

My wizard baby please don't forget.
your art is amazingly well done. an you captured the characters in great ways in every scene.
Thanks.

God, one of thr most emotionally DEVASTATING moments in Balance, second only to "You fucking took everything from me"
This was absolutely fantastic, their expressions were just gut-wrenching and your designs of these three were really lovely! 10/10
I just came back to rewatch this after a few months and sure enough yup! Still makes me cry
ur designs for the twins are so perfect omg
God I love your design for Taako
That's some good character art right there, let me tell you. I love everything about them designs.

and the expressions??? legit almost brought me to tears-
this is great!!💛💛💛
thank you so so much! :'D
I just realized you're the one who made this and oh god the nostalgia the pipeline of Balance fans to DSMP fans is a straight and well worn road
Well I missed the boat a bit, but that is the cutest Lup I've ever seen.
Wonderful job! Always happy to see a TAZ animatic.
I love your artistic style, it gave me feels even after all the time passed from when the ep was published
