Great Video, you explained everything in detail! Your dog is adorable, and I had to laugh. My 99 year old Dad always said, that cheese to a dog is like candy to a child!

For the front, I use a Downy Liquid Fabric Softener empty container 111 fl oz with the "no spill top". The urine separator can be inserted into the top of the Downey No spill top - that way nothing splashes out when you are driving. Save the screw top of the Downey container so when you go to empty it, you place the top of the container back on and walk to where you are going to empty it without any problems. People will see the Downy container and not know that you have urine in it. For cleaning the separator after each pee, I use a spray bottle of vinegar, water and lavender essence. Smells great.

That’s a great way to do it! 👍🏼 In my build the detergent bottle didn’t work because the holes didn’t line up. The box is too small! I would have preferred your way ! 😊

@@a.mstree Instead of the round bucket, try a square kitty litter bucket. Then see if the detergent or softener bottle lines up with the urine diverter opening area.

I don't understand why you go to the added expense of using a compostable bag when you line it with a plastic bag. The plastic bag is enough and nothing composts in a landfill. Other than that, this is a great system. I double bag my solids in two grocery bags, tie securely and stick that bag inside my regular trash bag. I do line the bucket with a 13 gallon trash bag to contain any accidents, but so far it's just been a precaution. (Better safe than sorry!)
I love the addition of coffee grounds to your pine! That's not only a great way to reuse coffee grounds, but it should also help eliminate odors as well. Wood pellets (cat litter) also work and they are nothing but compressed sawdust. I believe horse pellets are the same (and supposedly cheaper), but I'm pretty sure they only sell those in ginormous bags at places like Tractor Supply Company (TSC), etc. If you had one or more people who want to split a bag with you, this might be an option. Or, you have lots of extra room to store them (nomad joke). ;-)

👍Where did you get the diverter?

I got it on Amazon for $60 last year. It’s a little pricey but still cheaper than some ready made compost toilets.

Hadn’t thought of clips to keep the bag in place. Do they stay generally stay clean, being at the sides?
Mine is similar with a luggable loo in place of the box, and an automotive funnel as a separator. The pine pellets don’t work for me: too much like smelling a cat box! I’ve found a mix of coconut coir and cedar chips keeps the odors to zero.

I once made a DIY diverter as an experiment. I cut the bottom out of a bleach bottle and then cut it to open flat(ish). From there I trimmed and shaped it to fit the outhouse buckets. The handle part of the bottle is the drain. It worked fine but was hard to clean. It was okay as it was just an outhouse. I suppose one can make one on a #D printer as well. I played around with it so much that I decided to save up for the real deal.

The same concept that @a.mstree used with the bleach bottle, but use a gallon milk / water / whatever jug instead. I don't use much bleach, personally, but your mileage may vary. I use one of the largish plastic coffee containers with the built in handle to store it. It comes with a snap on lid and holds quite a bit. Urine is natural nitrogen fertilizer and plants and trees won't complain.

I use an auto funnel, about 4” by 6”, with a fairly long spout. It came with a flexible hose, but I haven’t needed it. The diverter I purchased online sometimes sent small turds into the urine and made an unbearable stench! Funnel works far better.

What do you do with all the plastic?

The only plastic is compostable bags as I mentioned in the video. I dispose of all waste, including household trash at appropriate dump sites.
