The beat is a real masterpiece, probably like a tailored suit for prodigy. If you really let it take you, it synchs your heart beat and breath pattern to it. Everyone can rhyme on that beat if he feels it , and has some talent. But that being said, Prodigy still aces it.
Your comment is fucking awesome and actually beautiful (hope ppl can understand the way I mean this) Prodigy & Havoc were fucking masters at their craft I grew up with east coast rap and I got into metal in my teens, I was still a Wu Tang junkie tho. But as I have heard many others say, age & experience has shown me that Mobb Deep were the truest innovators maybe with exceptions to Nas and the more I listen back I realize that RZA took a lot of his style and sample choices with his beats right from Havoc. I mean I hate to say it so plain but fucking some of RZA esp. On the first solo albums of various members (Rae, ghost, method man etc) its like he was straight up BITING Mobb Deep production style. More than a few lyrics recycled and re worded from P and Havoc as well. Rae and Ghost were my fav rappers growing up too so it really leaves a bitter taste in my mouth saying this shit but honesty is a motherfucker and I gotta speak it true. Tbh I never had any idea just how much Mobb was copied and cloned by SO MANY RAPPERS AND PRODUCERS from their heyday, it honestly blows my mind looking at it now. Sorry to anyone who read this fucking novel I just wrote but if you got this far, let me share some interesting facts. Prodigy wrote "Mac 10 Handle" on his solo album not only (" high on drugs," as he was willing to share in interviews) but at the time he stated he was watching a lot of Rob Zombies films and listening to White Zombie and similar music (I believe Pantera and Down!) He further stated that he loved the aesthetic of Zombie's movies and the imagery such as skulls along with the metal he was tuning into musically and it gave him the inspiration for not only the lyrics and production but also the music video!! Can you imagine Prodigy watching Rob Zombie movies!! So fucking cool! Shows how great artists often find one another's work to help fuel own their creativity too. Prodigy was never shy about talking about how Mobb Deep greatest songs were made either, he frequently said they were geeked out of their minds in a tiny project apt in Jamaica Queens when they wrote Shook Ones pt2 . As I have gotten older it's become obvious to me more so that Prodigy was a visionary beyond his time and one of the truly greatest rappers ever to be put to wax. Not only that but Mobb Deep had some of the darkest and most innovative beats to match his flow and Havoc. They were WAY ahead of their time in many ways. Even their best contemporaries couldn't keep up with how unscripted, raw and experimental they were - it took me a long time and a lot of listening to that period and many of those artists to come to that realization

THIS is the song that introduced me to hip hop. Word. I think I was 12 at the time. Somewhere in Africa, it was about 5PM and I was just changing channels aimlessly. I then landed on KBC Channel 1 and the song had played about halfway through. The ominous beat got me hooked. Since the remote was on my right arm, I just found myself placing it in contact with my chin, contemplating. I had to listen carefully. Then, "...N***a, please, don't make me have to risk my freedom." That was such a deep lyric. Still is. From then on, I looked for Mobb Deep's other projects, and I wasn't disappointed. Along the way, I got introduced to Nas, Snoop Dog, Ice Cube, and the like. The rest, as they say, is history. Hip hop for life.
