IMO Grim Dawn is currently the BEST ARPG on the market. Been playing about 6 months now. Only game I constantly return to. Even when playing Last Epoch, D4 and Titan Quest. Loving this game!
Crate are releasing update 1.2 for Grim Dawn soon (expected within a month), which is adding a default universal dodge button, improving loot drop quality and reducing clutter, and taking health and mana pots out of the inventory and making them infinite on a cool-down, among other QoL changes. I hope you come back to show more of the game off to your audience after :) Personally nearing 1000 hours in Grim Dawn and hands down it is my favourite aRPG by a mile.
I return to Grim Dawn every few months. It sits among my most played games on Steam and agree with you on the pros and cons. The new expansion announcement came out of nowhere following years of steady balancing and patches. Love this game and the devs.
I was disappointed back when they didn't get to make Titan Quest 2, because I loved the first part at release, but Grim Dawn turned out to be amazing and has been improved like crazy over the years. Thematically I liked Titan Quest better because the whole lore of Grim Dawn is not sufficiently conveyed, or I simply didn't get everything, but its atmosphere and music make more than up for it.
I tried this game awhile back and i couldn't get into it for some reason, i think i disliked the skills available and i also remember choosing arcanist. Might have to give it another shot.
It could not be further from underrated. It is VERY frequently in people's best ARPGs of all time lists, it has 93% overwhelmingly positive reviews out of almost 75k reviews on steam (well above average), got 8/10s minimum when it came out in 2016, and any "grim dawn in 20xx" videos on youtube talk about how amazing it is for half an hour.
The video came out to early. He should have waited till 1.2 in three days. :D The game get such a massive overhaul for parts of the game like itemization (less loot, more useful stuff), endless flasks or a dash/jump button. Hope they updated the dash animation because it was really horrible in first beta.
The pit boss you faced is based off of winners of the community pvp tournament. There are 3 of them (plus the original boss), and the one you fought was Rekt (a grim dawn youtuber/streamer). These bosses are some of the hardest normal bosses in the game.
@@Zm0rPoE also does this with a special map called Hall of Grandmasters. All the enemies in that map are copies of player builds. Though, to be fair, I love Grim Dawns implementation better as everyone gets to see it since it is part of the normal progression of the campaign rather than a rare unique map.
@@epyjacek I can clear all the end game uber bosses, but that map still wrecks me. To this day i still haven't finished it (summoner build), probably because my build is just "PVE" content to these PVP builds.
Freakin awesome that you are covering Grim Dawn. This game needs way more attention than it got over the last couple of years. It is definitly in my top 10 games of all time! Also great that you see how great it is.
I have almost 1400 hours on this game in Steam. I remember playing when the only content was up to the Warden. Always holds a special place in my heart.
Grim Dawn is such a sleeper gem of an ARPG. One of my favorites. The exploration, the world setting and lore, the character building and gearing... it's just absolutely addictive and a joy to play!
That is another one of my favorite things about Grim Dawn, you start getting cocky, thinking your OP, and then a boss stomps you and makes you kite it and play it multiple times to beat it lol. Ya know I usually don't like "lets play style videos" but you cut this one together really well so that it felt like a fun experience seeing you experience the game instead of TONS of boring downtime that an uncut version would bring. You've got my like and subscribe sir, good work!
Awesome thing is that those NPCs weren't just named after notable streamers. In addition to Rekt, the others that spawn in that pit area were all community PVP champions and had their exact builds replicated to basically wreck face to those who decide to peek in. Amazing to see Crate embrace their community with these subtle nods and a great way to test builds to see if they measure up!
Doing the achievement of killing the warden under level 10 really taught me how important it is to use your at will town portal to save your progress through a map, something I didn't see you doing much.
Grim Dawn is just amazing. I'm also replaying it ATM, running a Sentinel (Oathkeeper/Occultist) and having an absolute blast. Humorously, I began playing PoE a couple of months ago and it just made me crave that Grim Dawn goodness, so here I am.
@@phatschtuff @phatschtuff Uhh, WTF are you even talking about??? Microtransactions are PURELY cosmetic & do not affect gameplay AT ALL, so that is totally & completely absolutely wrong AF.
@@barryg.5224he means that most builds are not efficient or fun to run without mirror tier investment (buils power discrepancy) and even if except no lifers no ones gonna grind so much in 3-4 months. It highly rewards those though, that's why the game attacts bots and RMTER buyers & sellers, which is kinds true.
Glad to see you enjoy one of my top 3 favourite ARPGs. Shame you didn't make this video like a week later, after 1.2 dropped. Lots of QoL updates like a dedicated dodge and unlimited health and spirit potions
Thank you for bringing Grim Dawn back into my mind. I have over 300 hours in this game that I've built up over time, and for some reason I'd forgotten about it. I'm diving back in tonight, and I couldn't be more excited. I absolutely love the replayability of this game, while you're running around finding loot for other builds, and stashing away loot in the shared chest, you could find a great combo of items that make you just want to roll a new class for a build idea that just pops out of the amazing itemization.
They also have a total "conversion" mod that adds all the classes from Diablo 2 as well as the entire games of Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 to play through. Grim Dawn is *amazing*.
I have been playing Grim Dawn since some early betas, I have over 1000 hours in it, I have leveled over a dozen different characters to 100 and I still occasionally come back to it with the thought of "well, THIS one new build might be interesting...". And I have beaten every single boss and difficult encounter, except one super secret joke boss, without ever looking at any build guides. To be fair, I don't think that boss is really beatable with most classes in the game anyways - requires a very specific type of abuse to beat. In just a couple days when Crate releases the 1.2 patch, I will take one of my old not-so-well-performing characters to make a new build for it. I already have a lot of ideas. Grim Dawn is one of those games where you can definitely succeed without looking up the meta builds, with your own build ideas, without being a cakewalk. You definitely need to think and calculate your builds for them to succeed, and you will run into dead ends occasionally, but you will almost always be able to fix them. A wonderful game. Keep playing it! I can't wait for you to find out all the cool stuff still in storage. And yes, the game definitely doesn't end at 100! You still have a lot of fun min-maxing and building left after hitting 100. And then rolling new characters, trading gear between them, trying out new builds and so on. Grim Dawn even has extra XP items & potions to make leveling go that much faster, just so you can try out fun new things.
so, I bought the game yesterday, being as easily influenced as I am, and currently between content in my mina game, FF14. I'm also going the easy 1 button notion you present here, :p , being also a big fan of simpler! it's rocking. Built my first relic , too, with the currency Warden dropped. One tip I received after posing the question to the steam GD community: as I bought the full package and expacs, once I kill the Warden, I was offered to go to the FG expacs. I took the quest, popped in, but went back to finish the OG expac content. in fact, the community suggested complete OG>then ashes> then FG. So, I'll go that route. They also suggested looking up build guides etc, which for now, I have no intention, as long as my uber 1 button build holds. I killed Warden simply enough, only 1 death in 10 hours of play, and not on the warden. Thanks again, LP! Oh, and I Love the music in this game. freakin sweet!
One thing I really appreciate about Grim Dawn is that you can make builds that you can't make in any other ARPG. You can do full-defense/retaliation, for example. There are so many different possibilities and the builds are almost always really strong
Thorns were in Diablo 2 though? While I agree with you that grim dawn gives a lot of choice in terms of build creation...and may even allow for stuff that you don't see in other games, using thorns was a pretty bad example since even D3 has thorns.
Glad to see you enjoyed one of my favorite aRPGs. If you ever happen to revisit it, please consider using the tools "Grim Internals" and "Rainbow Filters" to enhance your experience. Grim Internals will help you control some of the UI aspects of the game and you can also adjust the overall game clock speed to make the game a little faster if the default pace is a little too slow. Rainbow filters will basically fix what's wrong with the loot filtering system with no further adjustments needed.
As someone with 3000+ hrs logged in Grim Dawn I'm so happy to see more streamers give it a go. The game has a lot more depth than you even realize initially, I had to play through the game many times before I even fully understood how to farm runes, blacksmith crafting, the importance of resistance stacking, all the hidden devotion points and the need for defensive cds. The mix and match class system, devotion tree and runes/sigils allow for endless customization. Once you're hooked and start getting loot for other build types you immediately start new characters to try them out. Dual wield frost reaper, super tank self healing totem warden, 2h gun toting elementalist throwing grenades and using magic shield spells, etc. The new expansion is adding a barbarian werewolf/animal summoning build that will allow for 9 new class combos, I'm excited.
Over 500 hours in this game. It's a beautiful ARPG! Easily best ARPG I've ever played. The dual class system is so good and it lets you replay the game in so many ways!
GD is my favorite game, I am already 2k hours in and cleared all content in SC and HC and have to say you did a great job starting out and showing the beauty of building a character in this game! Using components on gear as soon as possible, specializing 1 spell for max dps, getting 1 point passive bonuses while having +1 to all skills in the class, and just having fun and trying stuff out while presenting fair criticism. Really liked your video!
Grim Dawn is both simultaneously the most overlooked ARPG ever, and also the greatest. Nothing compares, everything else just makes you want to go back to Grim Dawn
Grim Dawn is one of my personal favourite ARPGs. I love the classes, the builds you can make and the post apocalyptic world. My first class was a demolitionist whose build I based on a 40k space marine. But my absolute favourite was the necromancer, it was so much fun sending an army of undead minions to maul anything which got in my way.
It's a really good game indeed and the developers are amazing. For years they wanted to do something else because some of them had been doing nothing but ARPGs for 20 years, since Titan Quest, and the engine is now old and hard to maintain / improve. And they did with "Farthest Frontier", but they never stopped caring about the game and their fans and pumped out patches with such an amount of changes, additions and bugfixes that they put almost every other studio to shame. Can't wait to see the new expansion. Especially the planned QoL improvements will make the game feel a bit more modern.
The new expansion was one of the biggest surprises of this year along with TitanQuest 2 announcement. I too thought the game was done when the devs said they wanted to move on to something. I don't blame them for feeling like that at all and was ready to support their next project. With their passion and dedication I believe they can make any genre amazing.
@@BrendonLee I bought Farthest Frontier pretty much blindly because of how well they kept supporting GD and I didn't regret it, though it still has some very flawed logistics.
I just had a look through steam 30 day reviews to confirm what I felt in my heart. That this is the best ARPG to date. To my happiness, I found that the nearest contender on steam is Last Epoch at a full 8 points lower!! It's not even close on the 30 day. Grim Dawn beats everything hands down. So, congratulations Crate Entertainment, and cheers to a bright/grim future in the world of Cairn!
The Warden's most dangerous attack is his crossbow, but he won't use it if you stay in melee (It's Crate's way to balance melee v range classes, giving monsters/bosses an extra mechanic that they only do when you are out of melee range)
This perfectly describes the state I and my brother were in when Grim Dawn first came out. Just couldn't stop playing until noticed the morning light was peeking through the window.
I'm honestly so glad you're shining light to this aRPG. Its such an underrated gem and not only is it finally getting love from the devs, someone like you, a bigger youtuber, is shining light upon it. Its literally EVERY aRPG happy medium. A solid A towards a ranking system of F-S.
Yup, when I first saw the _screenshots_ on GOG I didn't like it too much (largely due to a fact that the GOG screenshots for base game seem to be too dark). But I decided to give it a try anyway and I actually love what it looks like in motion!
@@strixcz The map is "hand drawn" i.e. not procedurally generated, apart from mobs and breakables,. the rest is designed by hand, the assets meticulously placed to fit an atmosphere for an act/zone/subzone. Crate devs know their thing and know how to execute it well.
My favourite part of this game is the dual class system. By mixing and matching different classes, you can completely change now the build is played. Usually most people will build 1 class as the main class, with the second class used for its passives and support skills. One class for offence, one class for defence.
Another note, at the top of the map, there are 'mutators' which modify the monsters (and you sometimes), and some of those can make bosses nearly impossible.
I've had the game and its expansions gathering dust in my steam library for ~3 years, never tried it once. Picked it up to play last weekend, been playing since, and it's so good! Just finished all acts on ultimate on an Eye of Reckoning Warlord and had blast.
Only recently discovered this game after being disappointed with D4. I cant get enough. Such a great game, and it feels like the devs actually care about making a fun game for players to enjoy. I watched another video saying this game was a love letter to classic RPGs but to me it also feels like a love letter to their fans. I know we wont get a sequel any time soon, but when we do, I absolutely will be picking it up on day one.
GD is one of the best ARPGs ever created if you can get past the visual aspect, which in 2023 is outdated. It has a lot of stuff in it though, and the new expansion that's been recently announced will literally add whole new systems to the game. It has that classic ARPG feel to it. The best thing is that GD 2 is planned already so there will be a continuation of this masterpiece. Probably a competitor to D5 rather than D4 though.
Ty for giving this game some spotlight. It seems like Diablo and path of exile get all the praise when it comes to arpgs but I've had the most fun with Grim Dawn. I can make whatever build I want work and have a blast doing it. Hope to see you in the new expansion!
Awesome review. Every time I go back and play more I discover a new depth to the game I never knew about before. Also, the real fun begins in Ultimate difficulty - enjoy!
This game is what you would call a hidden gem. I remember when i played it the first time a couple of years ago and over one weekend i had 27 hours played on Steam. Its a really fun and amazing game with a classic arpg vibe.
This may have been one of those 'gold star' Kickstarter backings for me ^_^ Seriously, these guys knocked it out of the park. And their follow-up? A bloody town builder that is amazing as well. The heck!? Farthest Frontier for those curious.
Farthest Frontier is decent but honestly it was a hugely missed opportunity they went with generic America/European theme rather than to just set it in the world of Grim Dawn. I have played a million colony games that have such a similar theme that Farthest Frontier really doesn't stand out.
@@Frostea Fair, though at the same time that is kinda the most common setting for these things. The few outliers that are post apocc tend to all be zombie survival, and that IS kinda Grimm Dawn at the end of the day (At least a fair chunk) so I can see them wanting to get away from that. Funny thing, at the time when they announced what they were working on, I thought it was going to be an expansion of Grimm, and commented about that on their FB page. They said I was pretty off the mark and that it was a new game, but DID really like the idea of trying to do your own outposts in GD, so who knows, if they dont shelve things, maybe we will get something weirder down the line ;)
@@Tillman581 I lump post apoc into the same pile of "million colony games" given that few of them really do anything creative. What I mean by creative is something like Timberborn, where the handling of water really makes or breaks your colony, or Against the Storm that brilliantly melds the rogue-like genre into colony building.
I read an interview where they were really worried about staying in the ARPG space. The main competitor to Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, is free to play, and they wanted to create a game that was completely different, because they didn't want to compete with "free." I'm pleasantly surprised they came back to GD. It sounded as though they might be done forever. @@Frostea
@@aarons3014 that's fair. I do think that game companies need to be very aware of how their IPs can turn out. That is to say that they should fully leverage the world's that they have built, not let it languish in obscurity. It was definitely a misstep to leave such a richly built world behind.
Played it multiple times. Highly recommend it even over PoE and Diablo 4. Although I'd say it is only worth playing through once as there isn't randomized maps but that's fine because that alone would take you over 100 hours
Its so amazing seeing Grim Dawn revitalized this year! GD has been my number one arpg for a long time now. I've been running new characters on the new beta patch and its been a nice breath of fresh air and I cant wait till the xpac!
I have been waiting for this review for years, so happy to see you picked it up again, its solid solid 9/10 and i think i put in most hours out of any ARPG on this one, maybe titan quest in 2023 next?
I’m definitely a casual ARPG player but have had a lot of fun playing this game. Dual wielding fiery pistols, throwing molotovs and electric spike traps. Demolitionist/Inquisitor has been a blast.
This game is already my all time favorite arpg and I'm glad to see it pop on youtube with reviews so many years after. Goes to show, it takes a good and dedicated team to make a great game, not a multi million / billion dollar studio.
Regarding the waterpump at 5:00. If you're lost and don't know how to do a quest, just open your quest journal. Quote: Barnabas can be found just outside the prison walls by the windmill, *to the south* This should give you a clear direction where to go. There is also a button on your big quest list on the right side which hides them.
this is a much better game than Diablo 4 better and more diverse class builds better lore and story more diverse environments environments that actually change when you complete certain quests (like the farmlands quests and the fabrics quests) the reputation system is very cool better items actually allows you to put points into stats the only thing I don't like is the rag doll deaths of some enemies
I cannot stop smiling watching this video, Grim Dawn is suchhhhhh an amazing/awesome game! So much so that, after playing for hundreds & hundreds (& hundreds!!!) of hours on PC, I bought an Xbox just to play it on console. Over 730 hours on PC, now I'm starting over & I'm excited! So much fun, so much build diversity, & testing new builds is fun. Cannot wait for the next expansion! Great stuff, glad you enjoyed it, not being able to just stop playing & log off is always a good indicator of how much fun a game is, love it!
One other main thing I love about Grim Dawn is there are mods available where you can change just about anything, you can make the enemies harder, more numerous, drop more exp, give you more gold, less gold, anything you want.
Im so glad a veteran like you also like Grim Dawn, its without doubt my favorite ARPG of all times. Its the game i play when nothing else seems to get my attention. I love it soooo much
You are mostly right about what you said but there is a small caveat. You were playing on normal where essencially anything works, pick a skill you like, invbest all towards making it better and you can just push through no problem. Elite that's harder to make it work but you can still brute force it albeit with much more difficulty. Ultimate however you will need a fairly well tunned machine of a build or you will keep banging your head against a wall and the wall won't give in first. On another note, 1.2 comes out tomorrow and it comes with a lot of QoL improvements. Less loot drops but much better drops to address the issue of lots of junk droping while overall giving more good stuff. You can acutally level up to 100 in normal difficulty too instead of having to go through all difficulties which can help you level up a build and there are many other good stuff. On a side note, yeah, necromancers are fun. You know what's better than to kill thousands of enemies? Having minions do it for you. You are above needing to dirty your hands xD.
Grim dawn is actually one of the few ARPG's where choices actually matter as does reading some of the quest logs, something alot of people these days can't handle, its all about rushing through it all these days. I've been playing this game since early access and its just alot of fun, both in how many options u have on how to build your character as well. Its also one of the few offline ARPG's out there, so if u have bad internet just play this game(or Torchlight). I love how u can use 2 classes, and how it changes the dialogue and choices u can do becouse some factions don't like who u are becouse of your class. It also has alot of secrets, like hidden areas that u don't see on the map and even secret quests! Have alot of fun with it and just enjoy it all.
I watched this a few months ago, and I watched your original video too. It's great to see that you're enjoying this wonderful game. I have gotten 4 toons to lvl 100, and I still have so many more I want to play.
What a Gem of an ARPG. Grim Dawn is one of those games I enjoy coming back to once-in-a-while to go again... it ticks so many boxes for this millennial. Happy to see the game is STILL going strong and gearing up for another expansion. Thanks for promoting this game TheLazyPeon.
Tips for new player's: Enable AutoPickUp Increase Minimap Size (Yellow button next to the energy bar) Try Hardcore. If you do, store items in your "Shared Stash". You keep those items on all characters. You also keep every blue print. I never went back to softcore.
I loved watching this video and seeing how enthusiastic you were about the game. Grim Dawn is a game that I've played since it released in Steam Early Access, and it's not only my favorite ARPG, but also one of my favorite games of all time. Crate promised and delivered a well built and near perfect ARPG, and year after year they've just kept improving upon what was already really good. There's no other ARPG that makes me as happy as Grim Dawn right now. Also, seeing them coming back (after having said that Grim Dawn was now feature-complete and wouldn't receive any new updates) with a huge 1.2 update that overhauls many of the game's mechanics (which should launch later this month) and a whole new expansion that will finally give us Shapeshifting in this game just makes happier with Crate. Glad you liked it, and hope you keep playing until Endgame, as there are many crazy builds that you can make further down the line!
Grim Dawn is a great game with a lot of variety. And if you ever get bored with the classes there are mods that change/rebalance/add them, for example the absolute monstrocity of a mod - Dawn of Masteries, which adds 53(?) more classes (basically merges the most popular class mods into 1 huge one) which, of course, can be multiclassed. Oh, and Rainbow Filter mod is such a huge QoL mod. It highlights stats on items in different colors so it's way easier to quickly check if it's any good. Huge recommend.
Grim Dawn is my #1 top game of all time. I have countless hours in it and bought it and the expansions in both Steam and Gog. It's easy to just pick up and play for whatever length of time you want, and that time, is full of addictive action.
One of my favorite games of all time. I come back and play again every year or two. It's kind of nice having a not online arpg to play sometimes . The game is so satisfying to try new builds in every time . Crate just keeps updating it over time and adding even more, even when you think they are done. Couldn't believe they announced another expansion.
I absolutely love Grim Dawn and am happy to see a positive review of it. I have to point out that for a first playtrough with no guide or build - you did really, really well. And there is a lot of stuff you didn't even get to in the video, so if you are going to continue to lvl 100 on elite and ultimate difficulty off camera - there is still a good chunk of game to come.
Wow Peon, I can't believe your face popped up on my feed again! I used to watch a lot of your content back when I was in high school, about 5 or 6 years ago. I remember watching you play a WoW private server and trying to get into it. I just wanted to say that you look great and I'm glad you're still sharing your content with us!
as a fan of grim dawn and your channel im really happy that you came back to play it again, hope you make another vid with the latest massive update cheers!!
Don't forget my man how much fun you had when you first played Last Epoch! I am loving Last Epoch and have over 400 hours on it and that's coming from someone who has probably over 1500 hours of POE.
Picked this game up on humble bundle. Got all the dlc included for 26 bucks. This might be one of my favorite rpg experiences I’ve played. Reminds of titan quest, and that’s becuase it was built in the same engine. Overall this game feels nostalgic while also being a breath of fresh air, in a world where every arpg has a battle pass Grim dawn stands as a testament to what a complete game should look like.
I played the game a bit when it first came out. Then the pandemic hit and I realized there was some DLCs. I then put around 600 hours into the game during the early part of the pandemic. I beat this game multiple times on Hardcore and tried so many different kind of builds.
I just started playing Grim Dawn. After spending many, many hours in Diablo II and D2R it's so nice to focus on a fresh game experience rather than min-maxing.

Grim Dawn is such a sleeper gem of an ARPG. One of my favorites. The exploration, the world setting and lore, the character building and gearing... it's just absolutely addictive and a joy to play!
how is a sleeper?itsthe 3rd rated action rpg on steam, its actualy nr 1 among isometric diablolike games, even above poe
@@deenman23maybe it’s number one but it’s such a chore being number one…. Makes it sleepy.
You've got my like and subscribe sir, good work!
grim dawn is pure class. I revisit often and create builds.
This game has so much heart and soul. Love it, and still play it to this day.
My favorite ARPG. Forgot how many times I’ve finished it. So glad you took the time to revisit this masterpiece! Can’t wait for the update!
One of my favourite games! The NPC who killed you at 13:04 is named after the biggest Grim Dawn RUclipsr/streamer RektByProtoss!
Ah yes, that also reminds me of the story about Praetorian Zedlee in Homestead.
Playing D4 sent me hurtling back to GD. Sooooooo much fun, amazing game, can't wait to see what's next!
In Path of RMT most of the viable builds are double wielding credit card ones, so totally understandable ...
Grim Dawn >>>>> D3 and D4
Seriously though, it's a criminally underrated game and I'm glad to see you're doing a video on it
big agree
how is literaly the nr 1 rated isometric arpg on steam ''underrated''?
Yo, one of the most enjoyable videos you've done. You and your editor did a great job- instant buy.
300? you gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers
@@Only1BandIsTheBand thanks to this video, those hours are on the way up for sure haha
Exactly this. Finding items for other build makes you want to try other builds. And there's so much of that, it sends excitement through the roof
As an altoholic, the end game for me is pretty much just finding loot for a new toon 😅
They also have a total "conversion" mod that adds all the classes from Diablo 2 as well as the entire games of Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 to play through. Grim Dawn is *amazing*.
This. D2 mod is one of the best. Heck of a good time!
Ah yeah reign of terror.
One of my top 5 games of all time. Love that you saw the value of the game and what it does well
so, I bought the game yesterday, being as easily influenced as I am, and currently between content in my mina game, FF14.
@@davidrosensin7985 yeah the reflected dmg build is pretty much a staple of arpgs
Playing this gem since its first release in 2016. Devs are really amazing. They listen to their players and always updating beyond expectations!
Played this years ago. I can't believe after all these years and after all shiny new ARPG coming out, this game still looks appealing to me.
Grim Dawn is also my favorite ARPG. Glad to see it bringing joy to others.
Yessssssss! Such a underrated gem
I'd even put it at S tier tbh
Had this game in my steam library for years, I guess its finally time to give it a try, I absolutely love the artstyle.
You won’t be disappointed :D
Yup, when I first saw the _screenshots_ on GOG I didn't like it too much (largely due to a fact that the GOG screenshots for base game seem to be too dark). But I decided to give it a try anyway and I actually love what it looks like in motion!
@@strixcz The map is "hand drawn" i.e. not procedurally generated, apart from mobs and breakables,. the rest is designed by hand, the assets meticulously placed to fit an atmosphere for an act/zone/subzone. Crate devs know their thing and know how to execute it well.
@@PhilipAlexanderHassialis I know. I've already spent hundreds of hours with GD and I also visit their forum so this is nothing new to me ;)
I'm surprised you haven't tried the best ARPG in your steam library
Glad to see you had as much fun and awe while revisiting Grim Dawn as I have! 100 hours B.D.IV and 550+ hours A.D.IV (Before & After D4)
Grim dawn is the type of game where you can spend as much time (or more) theorycrafting builds as you do playing it. Its just a great game.
Grim Dawn by far is one of the best ARPG's out there, love it that you covered it!
The atmosphere in this game is great.
Only recently discovered this game after being disappointed with D4. I cant get enough. Such a great game, and it feels like the devs actually care about making a fun game for players to enjoy. I watched another video saying this game was a love letter to classic RPGs but to me it also feels like a love letter to their fans. I know we wont get a sequel any time soon, but when we do, I absolutely will be picking it up on day one.
lets hope titan quest 2 is similar to this and not diablo
GD is one of the best ARPGs ever created if you can get past the visual aspect, which in 2023 is outdated. It has a lot of stuff in it though, and the new expansion that's been recently announced will literally add whole new systems to the game. It has that classic ARPG feel to it.
The best thing is that GD 2 is planned already so there will be a continuation of this masterpiece. Probably a competitor to D5 rather than D4 though.
Grim dawn graphics looks fine though? I can't understand why most people consider the graphics outdated@@DoctorStrange01
Also, the real fun begins in Ultimate difficulty - enjoy!
its a masterpiece. getting a new dlc 2024 ive heard
This game is what you would call a hidden gem. I remember when i played it the first time a couple of years ago and over one weekend i had 27 hours played on Steam. Its a really fun and amazing game with a classic arpg vibe.
how is it hidden when its literaly the nr 1 rated isometric rpg and 3rd action rpg on steam?
Be nice to see this sort of thing for titan quest and see how it compares to modern arpg's. Thanks again for another great review!
Saw it was on sale on Steam and can’t believe I’ve just now found and learned about this game, as someone who loved Diablo II Grim Dawn is a gem.
Played it multiple times. Highly recommend it even over PoE and Diablo 4.
Although I'd say it is only worth playing through once as there isn't randomized maps but that's fine because that alone would take you over 100 hours
"Although I'd say it is only worth playing through once" -- I think its fun doing it with difference classes
also the main goal is to beat this game in all difficulty level, the first level is a joke compared to elite level
Sorry for bullying you in the pit :P
This game is already my all time favorite arpg and I'm glad to see it pop on youtube with reviews so many years after. Goes to show, it takes a good and dedicated team to make a great game, not a multi million / billion dollar studio.
Grim Dawn is a masterpiece.
The aRPG I have the most hours in and just started playing AGAIN again again for the eleventeenth time.
Regarding the waterpump at 5:00. If you're lost and don't know how to do a quest, just open your quest journal. Quote: Barnabas can be found just outside the prison walls by the windmill, *to the south* This should give you a clear direction where to go. There is also a button on your big quest list on the right side which hides them.
this is a much better game than Diablo 4
better and more diverse class builds
better lore and story
more diverse environments
environments that actually change when you complete certain quests (like the farmlands quests and the fabrics quests)
the reputation system is very cool
better items
actually allows you to put points into stats
the only thing I don't like is the rag doll deaths of some enemies
I cannot stop smiling watching this video, Grim Dawn is suchhhhhh an amazing/awesome game! So much so that, after playing for hundreds & hundreds (& hundreds!!!) of hours on PC, I bought an Xbox just to play it on console. Over 730 hours on PC, now I'm starting over & I'm excited!
So much fun, so much build diversity, & testing new builds is fun. Cannot wait for the next expansion!
Great stuff, glad you enjoyed it, not being able to just stop playing & log off is always a good indicator of how much fun a game is, love it!
I hope they will do Grimm dawn 2
it's been talked about
I think its pretty much confirmed they're building the new engine for it
They are going to start development on grim dawn 2 as soon as the new engine is complete
Just from curiosity, why? What would or could Grimm dawn 2 do better than the original version?
Yoo my fav ARPG, nice that it gets more attention and coverage!
I'm really hyped for the next dlc.
Thanks for the great video. 😊
Thanks
The fact you never combined classes is crazy!
Happy to see you return to this game and loved the video
Your editor was on point this video. Absolutely a joy
Tips for new player's:
Enable AutoPickUp
Increase Minimap Size (Yellow button next to the energy bar)
Try Hardcore. If you do, store items in your "Shared Stash". You keep those items on all characters. You also keep every blue print.
I never went back to softcore.
So glad to see this game get the love it deserves!
I was just watching your 7-year-old video about Grim Dawn this last week before this release.
Great timing!!!
Great review mate
Grim Dawn is a great game with a lot of variety. And if you ever get bored with the classes there are mods that change/rebalance/add them, for example the absolute monstrocity of a mod - Dawn of Masteries, which adds 53(?) more classes (basically merges the most popular class mods into 1 huge one) which, of course, can be multiclassed.
Oh, and Rainbow Filter mod is such a huge QoL mod. It highlights stats on items in different colors so it's way easier to quickly check if it's any good. Huge recommend.
nothings better then when you find a game that's so much fun you can't stop playing.
I just wanted to say that you look great and I'm glad you're still sharing your content with us!
as a fan of grim dawn and your channel im really happy that you came back to play it again, hope you make another vid with the latest massive update cheers!!
the fully 3d world and movable camera is what really stands out compared to other arpgs. like how is it that newer arpgs dont have a 3d camera??
This game does not end! The amount of mods that you can install are amazing!
I have played this game many times but always stopped fairly far into the game. But you definitely made me get a spark to start playing again.
I played the game a bit when it first came out. Then the pandemic hit and I realized there was some DLCs. I then put around 600 hours into the game during the early part of the pandemic. I beat this game multiple times on Hardcore and tried so many different kind of builds.
The timing of this video, holy... I literally just typed "Grim Dawn state 2023" and your video popped up. :-D
I just started playing Grim Dawn. After spending many, many hours in Diablo II and D2R it's so nice to focus on a fresh game experience rather than min-maxing.
