Still a great song to this day, and very nostalgic for me. I remember in 67 when this came out, my Mother was working at a pizza parlor near a college, and it was a hang out for college students. They had a nice jukebox in there with all the latest stuff. I'd go in there and help wash dishes so I could get some free pizza and listen to the jukebox. White Rabbit was the #1 song the college students would play, along with The Doors, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Turtles, and The Animals. Still love that music.
Is the whole band live? I ask because it appears the bassist has some kind of slug thingy on the neck of his bass and it covers the strings. My first thought was he was protesting having to play in sync to the track.
I was a bit surprised, in a good way. Most of the videos of the time were lipped synced, the feeling that people wanted to hear the polished, studio versions. I'm glad I came across this version. Her gaze and wry, subtle grin are captivating and connect in ways that a lipped sync version wouldn't have done.
Fun fact: "The group made its first public appearance as Jefferson Airplane at the opening night of The Matrix (a nightclub in San Francisco) on August 13, 1965"
I saw Jefferson Airplane play this song live in concert in Riverside California in 1967. I was 16 and my mom dropped us off as I didn't yet have my license. The ticket cost me $3.

You don't need to do psychedelic drugs to live a full and prolific creative life. In fact I would argue that most psychedelic-inspired art is bizarre or absurd rather than truly beautiful, and they tend to all have the same discordant sound and look. I've enjoyed a creative life without this. I have been a boardgame designer and publisher for the last 8 years. If you want a real trip, go alone with your thoughts on a nature walk for 3-4 hours...that will blow your mind and give you all the inspiration you need.
Man the 60s n 70s were such a one-off unique trip of an awesome time in the United States. So many amazing musical achievements and milestones. Invented genres, perfected styles and just off the charts creativity.
An instant classic. It was part of The Matrix Resurrections' soundtrack and I'm glad that 1899 creators (Baran bo Odar, Jantje Friese) included it in the show. Such a strong song.
I thought i heard it before now I realised it was in The Metrix Resurrection's trailer and yes it's strong song and 1899's first episode brought me here.
Heh it's been stuck in my jead since I saw that trailer. Which gave me goosebumps btw. I usually hate new movies and reboots but I'm excited to watch this. I jist have to watch the first 2 sequels first. I never bothered watching them because of how bad they were. But I guess the new one makes more sense if you've seen em all. So I guess I have to watch 5 hours or so of crappy movies to watch a 2 and a half hour good movie.
Well there are only two senses of the word "masterpiece", and one of them is a creation that qualifies one for entry into a guild, so I think maybe it's only a masterpiece in the other sense, being that it's of great quality.
I agree Kurt - I’m 76, and for 54 years I’ve been listening to this song. There are a few decent covers floating around on RUclips, but I always come back to this one to get my White Rabbit fix. They just don’t make ‘em like this anymore…
I’ll tell you what, Moze…I thank my lucky stars nearly every day that I was born when I was. For lots of reasons, but music is certainly one of the main ones. And yeah, if we could sit down over a beer or three, I could most definitely tell you some stories… 😎
I was 22 and in college when White Rabbit came out in 1967. The crowd I ran with loved it; it was THE perfect party song. I have some great memories associated with that song. Woodstock was across the country from me and I was a poor kid just out of college. As much as I wanted to be there, it was out of the question. I was not much of a Jimi Hendricks fan, but I loved The Doors, The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jefferson Airplane, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and especially the Stones. I love the Stones, and the fact that they’re still going strong, at my age, never ceases to amaze me. We also had a local band, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and I loved that band. I went to some great concerts in the 60’s and ‘70’s, had some experiences I’ll never forget. It was a great time to be young; I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Everyone here associating this song w/ the matrix but lets all remember the masterpiece that is fear & loathing in Las Vegas & the impact this song had in it.
just ahead of their time. what a masterpiece. i can't believe they actually wrote and played this and people at the time liked it. i love every single one of them.
I’d highly recommend listening to the rest of the album Surrealistic Pillow, and Volunteers, which is also awesome. No other band quite embodied the 60s like Jefferson Airplane, and Grace Slick is a bonafide goddess
This song is hard to replicate because her notes are so strong, simple and powerful... trying to remix her notes with alternate falsettos just makes it cheezy... she sings in a militant tone here. Powerful. Subtle. Love it!
Its crazy all together gives that fricking your on a pirate ship feel the whole Vietnam era had that kind of vibe all you gotta do is add the right vocals like here's at a certain point I don't know maybe it's the Spanish and militant feel due to the guitar and bass love it man
fucking hell this is not a song, but a journey, i have experienced shifting realities while jefferson airplane was playing in the background, this shit was on another level, it will always have a monumental and dear place in my heart, the songs and the memories.
@@TexasTimelapse no it doesn't. What utter nonsense. You don't need to be on LCD or Shrooms to understand the concept of Alice in Wonderland/Through the looking Glass
She’s absolutely amazing but is she underrated really? Her and Janis Joplin were the driving forces of women’s vocals through the 60s and I think they are properly recognised for it

@@juscruzenit Of course I do. What I meant to say that here in the UK, she got little recognition commercially in the late 60s, it wasn't until the 1980s, that she was recognised commercially. I meant underrated in terms of commercial success here. Hope that clear things up a bit 4 u.
Probably who found it was the intern, who told the 2nd junior assistant, who told the 1st junior assistant, who told the senior assistant, who told the coordinator of music, who told the director of art, that was actually the one called "brilliant" and that got a raise.
The first time I heard this song was when my fiancés dad went through his house singing it and I thought it was the wildest thing ever. Needless to say he is a hippie and does silly things like this 🤣.
Than you have to check out when they used this track in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas !!! It’s soooo proper lol ruclips.net/video/ASCkWnxlfUA/видео.html
As soon as the first note’s played, we’re transported back. It’s not the only one though. The 60s had songs that were instantly recognisable by the first chord. Ditched them when they became Jefferson Starship tho.
@@davizitopa7252 i think someone wrote the song for them, but i remember seeing that at a concert, The Momma And The Pappas, with Cass Elliot, were sitting in the front of Grace Slick and The rest of the Airplane singing this song and was thrilled and captivated by them to the point of worship
Warner Bros has the ability to make slight remixes to great songs for trailers that just get stuck in your head. The sound mixers for the WB trailers need all the accolades they can get.
In an interview, Grace Slick gave credit to her close friend for keeping her away from the nasty drugs that killed so many of the great's from the 60's.
I can see how psychedelic rock went on to influence many genres of music that came after such as progressive rock, indie rock, alternative rock and even heavy metal. It was very much ahead of its time and insanely dynamic.

Invented genres, perfected styles and just off the charts creativity.
all under the direction of the CIA via Laurel Canyon.
The Sopranos
Heh it's been stuck in my jead since I saw that trailer. Which gave me goosebumps btw. I usually hate new movies and reboots but I'm excited to watch this. I jist have to watch the first 2 sequels first. I never bothered watching them because of how bad they were. But I guess the new one makes more sense if you've seen em all. So I guess I have to watch 5 hours or so of crappy movies to watch a 2 and a half hour good movie.
Had to revisit this classic after just watching 1899
1899
This song is a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
Well there are only two senses of the word "masterpiece", and one of them is a creation that qualifies one for entry into a guild, so I think maybe it's only a masterpiece in the other sense, being that it's of great quality.
The build up to 2:39 still knocks me out.
@Marie Marie Why are you like this?
now thats what im talkin about.
Amazing. She is smiling with utter mischief. What a bad ass Grace Slick is
Still as Brilliant today as it was in 1969, What have todays youth got, Adele, Edd Shearer and Rap Crap,God we were privileged to be Young in the 60s
Taylor Swiff as well.
This lady owns the stage without moving anything but her vocal cords, damn.

Appearances are deceiving. Down the rabbit hole further. Transvesigations of inverted celebrities. Not entirely a lady.

She was magnetic too at Woodstock festival
This song is so mesmerizing and otherworldly.
Perfect description
Thank you.
I very much agree!
That undeniable unbelievable voice....
They absolutely slayed it in this performance, this live recording one is a true classic
The vocals are live but the instruments aren’t
@@ahappynigerian Yep. She kills it though.
Literally one of the best track ever made,30 years listening to this and never get bored 🐇
Yesssssss!.mi ingles es muy
Limitado..pero.siiiiii.quiero masssss
It was a great time to be young; I wouldn’t have it any other way.
timeless
This song immediately puts 'Nam into my head.
Timeless !!! Love it !!!
Jefferson Airplane was the first concert I went to in Boston Garden 1968 get this ticket was $3.50 I still have the stub man. LOL
same here
I don't know what these strange symbols mean buy the music is fucking awesome
Mike Mitchell that's awesome
Put it on ebay - you might be surprised. Ah those were the days i yearn for.
wow dig that history man
This song is about to explode in 3 hours... Follow the White Rabbit
How'd you know 🙆♂️
How do you know? Are from the future? Or from the matrix? Is it real? Am I real? Holly shet,!
There have been descriptions of the trailer for days now including what music is played.
How’d you know?
@@richardthekingransom i just...told you?
Grace was born to sing! Wow
Old hippie here, reminding everyone to be sure and feed your head.
Everyone here associating this song w/ the matrix but lets all remember the masterpiece that is fear & loathing in Las Vegas & the impact this song had in it.
I need a rising sound
Thank you Man 👏
exactly
toaster and all
I agree
Grace Slick has a magnificent voice.
you cant even sing along with this song, youll sound dumb lol
@@mikec4308 No Mike, I’m afraid its you that sound dumb.
@@amisanders467 You do realize he wasn't insulting anyone. He's simply saying anyone would sound stupid when trying to sing along to this song
@@mikec4308 it's true. I can't capture that powerful voice of hers at all. Nobody compares to Grace Slick.
Yes she does! I'm trying to sing like her in my new songs.
Don’t watch this on Acid Grace stare intro my soul like she knew I would watch this 57 years later. Damn trippy experience…
just ahead of their time. what a masterpiece. i can't believe they actually wrote and played this and people at the time liked it. i love every single one of them.
How is this the first time I'm listening to this masterpiece...
Welcome to the real world
Bro fr
Same 😬
I’d highly recommend listening to the rest of the album Surrealistic Pillow, and Volunteers, which is also awesome. No other band quite embodied the 60s like Jefferson Airplane, and Grace Slick is a bonafide goddess
@King
This song is hard to replicate because her notes are so strong, simple and powerful... trying to remix her notes with alternate falsettos just makes it cheezy... she sings in a militant tone here. Powerful. Subtle. Love it!
I think Florence Welch can do a good job.
Exacto, un tono militante. Me pone "piel de gallina"
Its crazy all together gives that fricking your on a pirate ship feel the whole Vietnam era had that kind of vibe all you gotta do is add the right vocals like here's at a certain point I don't know maybe it's the Spanish and militant feel due to the guitar and bass love it man
Listen Paul kakbrenner's remix "feed your head"
Listen to PInks version of this.
Magical haunting and enchanting from the era of class music never mind the plastic shite of today true class and what a legend was our grace
Happy 84th Grace! Love you!
Grace Slick is absolutely killing it in this song. What a voice!
"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold."
@Preston Hanson i think you got it wrong
Barstow means your're in Cali!! Finally right!?
@@hivemind010 no no, hes got it right.
BATS
@@reneeschwider6136 Who the shit would want to be in California nowadays lmao
Grace , what a voice !
fucking hell this is not a song, but a journey, i have experienced shifting realities while jefferson airplane was playing in the background, this shit was on another level, it will always have a monumental and dear place in my heart, the songs and the memories.
I would like to thank Matrix for making me discover such a beautiful song, albeit too late. I can't get over the feeling the song gives me.
It makes more sense if you've done psychedelics before.
@@TexasTimelapse no it doesn't. What utter nonsense. You don't need to be on LCD or Shrooms to understand the concept of Alice in Wonderland/Through the looking Glass
@@DanceySteveYNWA
Please enlightening us by sharing your psychedelic experience.
It’s not about understanding Alice in Wonderland
It’s more about the feeling the song gives you while you’re tripping your balls off.

such a crazy mindfuck when this song plays in "the game" the sheer suspense this song creates is insane in the movie

Her voice is so powerful its overwhelming the crappy recording equipment. I love that 👏👏👏💪💪💪
Thank You Bray
Gone but not forgotten ⭕️🐇❤️
One of the most underated female vocalists of the 60s, the brilliant Grace Slick.
She’s absolutely amazing but is she underrated really? Her and Janis Joplin were the driving forces of women’s vocals through the 60s and I think they are properly recognised for it
Possibly the most highly rated Rock vocalist of the 60's. And deservedly so.
Wouldn't call her underrated. She hardly flew under the radar.
BrraaH Do you Even Know Who She IS?
I Mean Like Really??! Maybe You Should:
Go Ask Alice🤣😂😆
Oh, Wait Lemme Do The Easy Work For
You. Oh Alice?? Oh Alice?? About Grace Slick--??
GoAskAlice Reply's: Grace Slick is a rock music icon, playing as the lead singer of the rock groups Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and Starship for nearly **two decades, from the 60s through the 80s. Want Some Schrooms??
@@juscruzenit Of course I do. What I meant to say that here in the UK, she got little recognition commercially in the late 60s, it wasn't until the 1980s, that she was recognised commercially. I meant underrated in terms of commercial success here. Hope that clear things up a bit 4 u.
Lol
Whoever chose this song to be in the new Matrix trailer, deserves a raise!!
I read it "deserves a rabbit" 🤣🤣
@@mostafasaad1878 lol!
Probably who found it was the intern, who told the 2nd junior assistant, who told the 1st junior assistant, who told the senior assistant, who told the coordinator of music, who told the director of art, that was actually the one called "brilliant" and that got a raise.
So pleased to hear it on the reacher season finale
Rest in paradise Bray wyatt. Our generation's white rabbit ⭕🐇

So glad The Matrix Resurrections had this as part of of their official trailer :) What a classic.
Made the trailer edgy ☺️
I agree
yes
I feel it speaks to the depth of the message the movie is trying to deliver.
What a voice! Can't get enough of it, I get goose bumps every single time.
Can’t believe I’ve never heard this song before. Heard it on 1899 and was captivated! Love the psychedelic 60s vibe and powerful vocals.
The first time I heard this song was when my fiancés dad went through his house singing it and I thought it was the wildest thing ever. Needless to say he is a hippie and does silly things like this 🤣.
Holy crap 1899
Dude what!!??? This is a classic....came here after 1899 also just finished the first episode.
Than you have to check out when they used this track in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas !!! It’s soooo proper lol
ruclips.net/video/ASCkWnxlfUA/видео.html
The 1899 cover is horrendous
Opening riff is incendiary ❤❤❤
I went to 60's party when I was a child. It was wild. It was lights action and just like this.
2 minutes and 29 seconds of psychedelic perfection and then they're like, 'That's it, see ya.'
As soon as the first note’s played, we’re transported back. It’s not the only one though. The 60s had songs that were instantly recognisable by the first chord. Ditched them when they became Jefferson Starship tho.
Exactly
yep. it's a short and sweet masterpiece.
It's like they got that one from beyond. The rest of their work is quite mediocre, but this one short song is ridiculously good.
This song has been stuck in my mind since Matrix's trailer.
Me too. I can't get it out of my head. This song is too good.
Like a splinter in your mind.
Its really good in another movie called "The Game"
Warner Bros has the ability to make slight remixes to great songs for trailers that just get stuck in your head. The sound mixers for the WB trailers need all the accolades they can get.
I've known this song since waaaay back when...er...man! I was 12 when this charted in 🇬🇧. Didn't know that it had been on Matrix though.
Grace Slick is so badass
I got goosebumps atleast 5 times
That opening bass line is so damn sick. I love it. Probably my favorite opening riff ever
Jack nailed it!
In an interview, Grace Slick gave credit to her close friend for keeping her away from the nasty drugs that killed so many of the great's from the 60's.
R Ski Alcohol was Grace's vice.
Let's just assume you're talking about heroin and coke and haven't been completely brainwashed.
MC RIP Immaculate pure coke aint bad, psychedelic drugs is what will toast your mind and give psychosis
Rest in Peace Bray
I can see how psychedelic rock went on to influence many genres of music that came after such as progressive rock, indie rock, alternative rock and even heavy metal.
It was very much ahead of its time and insanely dynamic.
Those opening chords are superb and really hook you
harris3693 Jesus that's some racist shit
I feel bad, but I laughed.
