    WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

From the perspective of parents, sincere questioning or expression of gender can certainly come across as nothing more than a rebellious phase, if the parents are strongly opposed to that idea.
It can certainly be said to be a form of rebellion to be one's true self in the face of oppression - it's not necessarily the case that rebellion equates to "just pretending". And if they then "grow out of it", that may just be them going back to suppressing their true selves for the sake of fitting in.
Some third-party layperson probably isn't the best judge of their psychological state - that would be for medical professionals to evaluate. But the caller thinks they know better than medical professionals, that medical professionals are so easily fooled when it comes to their subject of expertise, which the caller of course knows so much more about, from having read like 2 blog posts or whatever.

There seemed to be a lot of miscommunication or misunderstanding of what the caller was trying to say during this interaction. This is why a lot of cis people don’t feel like they can talk about trans issues or get a better understanding of transgender people. Any questioning is immediately taken as being dismissive of trans identities or transphobia.

I think it's better to come from a place of curiosity and looking for compromise. And since cis people are the majority, it's mostly our responsibility to reach out with an olive branch and not take it so personally when we get criticized just for asking

@@MrTheclevercat that's the thing. It's not an ideology, it's an identity. That's like saying being Mexican is an ideology. And I can get mad at people because whether they are aware of it or not, they are inadvertently or overtly hurting people with their constant refusal to learn more and/or resorting to unjust dehumanization.

Kids should not be thinking about sexuality. This is disgusting stuff to encourage children to think about their gender identity.

@@CycocelVocalist I’m ok with making grooming a crime. So yes, I’m ok with policing adults who talk to kids about their sexuality. I’ve got news for you, no child comes up with such an idea on their own. If you disagree you are the definition of a sexual predator.

    • @blueredingreen

@@healthfadsfade That is news to me, given the many accounts of people who did "come up with such an idea" on their own.
Interesting strategy to assert something which is demonstrably false, and accuse anyone who accepts objective reality of being a predator.
If you want to make a reasoned argument for your position on education policy, I'd suggest toning down the denial of facts, the emotional appeals and the personal attacks.

    • @Hi-bp2mv
      @Hi-bp2mv 6 дней назад +1

Sincerely, I don't get the point. I'm not American, but where I live is pretty normal to talk about sex to adolescents in school, teaching about condoms and stuff to avert unwanted pregnancies and places to find anonymous moral support and help for whatever you need about sexual topics as a teenager. Unfortunately it is not talked about sexuality, and it is done in a very shallow way, either way though it's pretty normal.
Why would talking about sexuality be different?
Also, sexuality and gender identity are completely different topics and it makes no sense to correlate them the way you did (as they're pretty much the same). However, teenagers think about sex all the time without adults or not, and will certainly explore it their own way. In my opinion, sex education is a great tool to help them do it in a safe way.
Honestly, your comment is blatant bigotry and shallow understanding on the topic at hand.
