  • Not a fruit video, simply recording the beauty of my Passiflora Amethyst coming into full flower in June, purely decorative

Just watched your first video and seriously impressed by Amethyst a year [or two] on. I have the standard white variety but was looking for something else hardy enough for my enclosed single glazed balcony. Looks like you've helped me find just the one. Love the colour and it's clearly very abundant with flowers.

I bought my mother Constance Elliot and Purple Haze, also very free flowering. I have the more challenging P. Incarnata ( Maypop ) which I’m hoping will flower one day and fruit. Video to follow in August

Thanks for watching Linda, as you are so much warmer there you might as well get the more tropical ones that fruit as well 😉

The variety you wanted was not a fruiting vine either?

Yes I originally ordered passiflora incarnata which is the American maypop. Its edible although not as nice as the normal tropical varieties like the one you have, but it's the only edible one that is winter hardy in our country. It's very hard to find plants of that variety in the UK, I might have to grow it from seed. There are a few ornamental ones ( like the one in this video ) that are winter hardy but their fruit is completely inedible 😬😬

How should you prune dead vines? Will they grow back in spring?

Depends on the variety of passion flower. This winter was too cold for many varieties and mine has been killed back to the ground. It MIGHT grow back from the roots, some passion fruits do. You can remove any obviously dead growth to tidy yours up. You'll probably have to wait until late Spring / early Summer to see if yours starts to re-grow 🤞

@@lyonheart84 I think mine was snow queen- it’s completely dead to the ground… should I cut the entire vine to the ground?

My mother had snow Queen as well, also dead to the ground. I’d probably not cut it right back yet as the dead stems might give protection to the roots as we might get more cold weather. I’d probably remove some of the higher up , messy growth
