G'day! 📺 Watch my video totally dedicated to passion fruit suckers - ruclips.net/video/ywz9JWcDiPE/видео.htmlsi=mS_7aBwbZrFIjnFl It will show you what they look like, explain where they come from and more. 👉Oh, I recommend a large pot (bigger the better) and to keep it shaded from the direct sun to stop the roots from over heating. Thanks so much, Daz.
You are the only one that spoke English that told me what I needed to hear about passion fruit. Thank you Daz. Also... Children and Pets will be what they will be. Anyone complaining about the noise, to me at least, is like complaining that the sun is too bright. I appreciate you caring about the quality of your video. You are awesome.
G'day. Wow, thanks so much for a wonderful comment to my video. It is very much appreciated. Thanks very much for taking the time to type all of this and share it with me. It is time like this that I am especially thankful for people taking the time to watch my videos. All the very best and take care, Daz.
One day many years ago....found this beautiful flowering vine creeping over my fence from a neighbors yard. Just fell in love with it. It began to grow along my own fence. So pretty! As it grew over my fence I left it alone. Butterflies loved it. Ok...so it didn't take long for it to reach the one tree in my backyard. From the fence to my tree's branches it's like it bypassed the trunk...and grew...and grew...and fkn grew. Before I realized it my tree was covered in these beautiful purple flowers and there was no stopping it. That stupid flower nearly killed a giant tree. While it was dormant (and very dead looking...it's sneaky that way) spent days on ladders raking it off the tree and severing the vines from it's roots. Spent ages trying to kill it...a little flower blooms every now and then. It does not die! Definitely keep it in a pot people! And clean up whatever drops off of it. Or just burn it! This flower/pest is not meant for a regular yard. NOPEEEE
G'day Jennifer. This comment has only just shown up now. I'm so sorry you had those troubles. It's certainly a plant that needs o be kept in check and cannot be left to do its own thing. Especially if it starts growing suckers. Ugh! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Jennifer and sorry again for the late reply. All the best. Daz.
I love the way you built the crescendo in your narrative, it made me laugh so much, you are a good writer, and thank you for sharing your experience, I just planted one and it has taken off like wildfire, so I'm getting ready to fix it.
My daughter planted four passionfruit vines last year and this year there are at least 100 in that same space, plus many suckers that have rooted under thru the ground up to 5 feet away. They are the most prolific plant I've ever seen. We have them growing along the end of our cattle panel fence, and nearly the whole 16 foot length is covered 4 feet thick, front to back, thru and thru, with passionfruit vines. It smells so fragrant in that area. I've yet to see any actual fruit growing there on those but it could be that they are just very hard to see being as thick as they are. I know they've been pollinated as I've seen bees and other insects in those blooms going from one to another. I've also seen the larger bumble bees sleeping off their pollen drunkenness, something I've never seen before. They simply lay inside the bloom and only move when I touch them. I have recorded a few of them doing this and find it quite entertaining and interesting. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. God bless you and your family, Daz!
G'day. Wow, thanks for sharing that. It sounds like an incredible spot and hopefully they will produce fruit for all to enjoy. Love what you were saying about the bees. I find them absolutely fascinating and I hope that I can have some here one day. Thanks and take care, Daz.
@@rolandotorres7112 I grow them in New England, Massachusetts to be exact and the advantage is that the suckers don’t get too invasive here. In a regular new england winter, cold and snowy, unless you have them protected outside, like you’d protect figs, they’re most likely to die. If you can create a microclimate and either protect them or plant them in pots they’ll survive for 4-6 yrs.
So glad I happened upon this video. I just bought two passion fruit plants and was about to put them in the ground! I'm definitely going to put them in containers. Thanks for a great video!
G'day! You might find this recent video interesting... ruclips.net/video/ywz9JWcDiPE/видео.htmlsi=rcUPWh9ixrtI-X1t I explain passion fruit suckers in more detail and I really hope it helps people avoid potential problems. Just a note... If you know that your 2 passion fruit plants are NOT grafted, you don't need to be concerned too much about sucker vines and putting them in the ground should be OK. I hope that made sense. Thanks so much for watching my video and for taking the time to reply. Good luck! Daz.
With your concern about suckers, do be aware that they (along with other berry plants, or even bamboo) will find their way through your drainage holes. I half expected you to put a concrete square (18" x 18" x 2") beneath the pot ... that will best control suckers. Thanks for the good info otherwise.
G'day. That's a really good point and thanks for bringing it up. 👍 I initially had a slab for it and was going to drill drainage holes on the lowest points on the sides of the pot. I actually mention this on a reply to someone just a few days ago. We had a second gas bottle installed for the house and I used it when the plumber did not bring one. I recorded the video the same day and totally forgot to mention it and I could not add it to the video after uploading. This was one of my first videos, maybe 2nd and I could have done better. What I should have done and will do... is add what you mentioned to the description. Thanks very much for bringing it up as it is such an important piece of information. All the best, Daz.
I do the same with my mint plants. If I didn't keep them in containers, they would take over everything. I didn't know about Passion Fruit. Good information.
Procrastination saved me from sucker heartache. I didn't put the one I bought 2 years ago in the ground. I did notice the suckers in the pot. I will repot. Good video
G'day! Oh wow! How about that! Nice one! I have a dedicated video now to the suckers and it's only a month or sold old now. If you can, put some plastic sheet or a concrete slab under the large pot if on the ground, to try to stop those annoying suckers from going downwards and through the drainage holes. Good luck and thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Daz.
G'day! Hah, hah, thanks so much. I lurv my passion fruit and if the dog stops digging into the plant, I can appreciate them for some time yet. 😁 Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment. Daz.
Oh my goodness. I just ordered Passion Fruit plant. Im so happy I watched this video. I will plant them in pots. I just ordered them, they have not arrived yet. Thank you for this video!
G'day Chanel Princess. I hope I did not cause you to worry too much. I just wanted to share my experiences and make people aware of the chance of suckers from a grafted passion fruit. Do you know if you passionfruit are grafted? Grafted passion fruit are the ones that can have this problem. Good luck with your passion fruit and I really hope you can enjoy a problem free time and many delicious fruit. 😊 All the best. Daz.
@@MyAussieGardenKitchen How kind of you to reply!😊 I dont know if it is grafted. I will send a message to the seller. But your video helped me alot. I have fence, and I'm going to plant it near the fence, but it will have its own trellis. Im not going to let it grow on the fence. Because I have trees planted along my fence line. Im going to do as you suggest and plant it in a pot👍I'm so excited. Thank you again, and enjoy your weekend 😊
Thanks for the great information. I have 4 very, very young plants I grew from seed so I can leave them in the pots for a while - just have to keep them alive! I'm so glad I watched this as I would eventually have put them in the ground. Thanks again!
G'day! Oh, fantastic! I really hope they survive and transition well into the ground. You'll hopefully be enjoying a lot of delicious fruit there. Good luck with them and all the best. Daz.
I've just got my seedlings up and going now in June so I think I still have time to move them from in-ground to a container so that I don't have to deal with the suckers! Really glad I found this video!
G'day! I'm now in my 4th week of being stuck in bed sick, so I am so sorry for this slow reply. I just wanted to say thanks so much for watching the video and for taking the extra time to leave a comment. All the best. Daz.
G'day Jasmine. I don't mean to strike fear into everyone about the suckers, as it may never happy to most people. I just wanted to share my experience with grafted plants and show how it could happen and be such a pain to deal with. Good luck with yours Jasmin and enjoy a beautiful looking vine, flowers and fruit! All the best. Daz.
Thank you so much for sharing how this plant can be invasive! I've made that mistake so many times...planting something that starts popping up everywhere. It can be a big problem. You saved me a lot of trouble. :D
G'day! They are such a beautiful plant and the fruit are delicious, but wow, the grafted varieties can really turn out to be a pain. I made a more recent video on the suckers as I have had so many people contact me about them. Hopefully I can help people avoid a headache in the future. Thanks so much for watching and for taking time to comment too. All the best. Daz.
I'm so glad I happened upon this video. I had no idea and was about to plant two vines in the ground by my berry patch. I'll plant them in large containers instead.
G'day! I just wanted to make sure you understood that it's can happen with grafted passion fruit and is a lot less likely to happen with non grafted, as the sucker vines grow from the root stock of the grafted plant. There is also the chance that a grafted plant may not send out suckers and grows happily in its spot. I hope that makes sense and thanks very much for taking the time to watch my video. Good luck with your plants and I hope you get to enjoy lots of delicious passion fruit. All the best. Daz.
@@MyAussieGardenKitchen Ah, thank you! I totally missed that. I received two passion fruit plants from a friend who grew them from seed. I don't mind keeping them in pots for now. I'm thinking I can monitor their behavior and plant them in the ground in the future if they don't put out suckers.
I was wondering why the leaves looked look different but then you explained that it's a grafted variety. That's pretty cool I didn't expect passion fruit to be grafted
G'day! Good luck with your plant and I hope you can still enjoy the fruit at least. I'm now in my 4th week of being stuck in bed sick, so I am so sorry for this slow reply. I just wanted to say thanks so much for watching the video and for taking the extra time to leave a comment. All the best. Daz.

Thankyou. Your advice has finally encouraged me to plant my passionfruit today. I live in the SW of WA. We have extreme frosts in winter and 38°- 43° summers. Thankyou again.
G'day. Yes, I was absolutely planning too, but the dog ripped it out of the pot late last year and absolutely destroyed it. I was devastated. I saved the root ball and have been trying to encourage it to grow and shoot again, but it's not looking good. Thanks so much, Daz.
Today I got a passion fruit plant from a gardening friend (In exchange for a lotus plant). This was an excellent video talk for me, as I’ve never grown passiflower before! 🇵🇰❤️🇵🇰
G'day! Good luck with your new plant and I hope it does well for you. The weather should be nice for it in your country too. 😊 All the very best to you, Daz.
I dont think I have ever had passion fruit. I think I want to try it now. Thanks for stopping by my live last night. Hope you can make it back on our next trivia night. Have a great day
G'day. I will definitely be at the next one. It was fun and thanks for doing it. Great idea! This is an amazing fruit. Seeds can be annoying, but it's worth it. All the best, Daz.
So your growing ornamental passion fruit ( no actual fruit ) which is not the same as normal passion fruit ( has proper passion fruit on the vines ) which does not have suckers coming up far away from the plant itself ,there is a big difference , I know the one you have as I have had it myself from Bunnings here in Australia and as far as I’m concerned it shouldn’t be sold , it’s a pest plant growing everywhere and anywhere , I recommend get rid of it and buy a proper fruiting passion fruit plant.
I can't grow passionfruit in my area but I still found this interesting and informative. It's sold in stores so why not know how our food grows! It really does take over wow. I do think it's very cool to see the habit and nature of the non-native foods we eat. Eating blindly disconnects us. Thanks for sharing.
G'day L P. Oh that's a shame, but I'm glad I could give you a bit of an insight to them. Thank so much for watching and also taking the time to comment. All the best and take care, Daz.
G'day Philip. Thanks very much for watching and thanks so much for taking the time to leave this comment. This is one of my first ever videos and I was incredibly nervous and it is just amazing to get wonderful feedback from people such as yourself and your wife. You have made my day Philip. Thanks again! All the best. Daz.
Hey Daz. You have some serious space to grow a lot of fruits and vegetables. An organic base, nice. I can't wait to see the fruits. Thanks, Daz. Take care.
G'day! Thanks very much for taking the time to watch and comment. Very much appreciated. I hope the 2 plants do well for you. They look great and the fruit is just so good to eat! All the best. Daz.
G'day! That's fantastic! Good on you! Definitely look into hand pollinating the passion fruit if you are not aware of the process. It's simple and increases your chances of fruit forming. I'm enjoying fresh raspberries and mulberries right now and my blackberries and producing so many flowers right now. Good luck with yours and enjoy! Please feel free to send me photos if you like. All the best. Daz.
@@MyAussieGardenKitchen thats ok we get passion fruit without doing that. but I want to try tiny pot passionfrit I hope I can do it there will be lots of cuttings for the compost
@@Rich-can-do I was just trying to find a link to share with you, but I can't find it. I was inspired many, many years ago by photos of a court yard where they had them in small pots and it was just incredible. Other fruit too, but the passion fruit were thriving as smaller, cut back plants. I'll reply again if I find the photos or the web site.
Awesome video! New subscriber here and new to growing passion fruit. I’m glad that I watched this video first so that I can plan way ahead as I heard they grow extremely fast. ❤
G'day! Thanks very much for subscribing and being a part of this channel and thanks too for taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it. Good luck with your passion fruit and enjoy! Daz.
Thank you Daz for all the great info. My good friend gave me a potted passion fruit that I need to transplant. Thank you for the heads up about it being a prolific plant. Instead of planting it in ground, I'll just put it in a big pot so it doesn't take over our small yard. Appreciate all the advise you share with us. God bless you and your family! P.s. your dog didn't bother us at all, he is just excited playing in the background 😊.
G'day G B. Yes, it's such a good natured dog and so playful. We are very fortunate. In regards to the passion fruit... I do not know how small your yard is, but it would need a bit of maintaining to keep it to a smaller size in a small yard and the roots themselves should not do much damage, but it's the suckers that can come from grafted plants and sometimes non grafted in certain conditions, that can be a pain and continuously pop up in places. Just remember that the pot needs to be a large one for those roots to grow over time and if you can, I recommend protecting the pot from the sun to top the soil and roots getting too hot. You could do that by having other potted plants around it or doing a bit of DIY and making a basic wood box to encase it. Say, with old pallet wood for instance. Thanks very much for your kind words and good luck! Daz.
@@MyAussieGardenKitchen Thank you for the additional recommendation, Daz! I will certainly do that as it can get hot out here in SoCal in the summer. I'll be planting it in a large pot along our fence line, and keeping it pruned so it does not go over our neighbor's yard. Appreciate all that you do to educate us about the garden. Have a wonderful day!
G'day! It's nice to meet you and thanks for watching and taking the time to reply. I think mine came from Bunnings if I remember correctly and I am doing a follow up video about those suckers popping up real soon. Enjoy your plants and all the best. Daz.
I have a passion fruit tree that suddenly sprung up in my front garden, among the orchids. So I am supposed to get plenty of bees for pollination. The fruits are small but super sweet. I tried to hand pollinate every flower just in case.
G'day! Wow, how about that!😊 I really like that you are getting fruit from it. I always hand pollinate mine, just in case but I do find it an enjoyable process as the flowers are just beautiful. It's also a little therapeutic when you are doing it along side the bees. 😊 Good luck and enjoy that beautiful, sweet fruit! Daz

G'day Christine. The container obviously has to be big to accommodate the roots as it gets bigger, but it should last for quite some time in the right conditions. The flowers are gorgeous and the fruit is divine. I love growing these. All the best, Daz.

First of all love Australia and came accross your channel. Wish I had warmer weather to grow Passion Fruit. Also love the idea of container growing. Alot of people do not have alot of land to grow so many things. Great information.
G'day there. Yes, container growing has so many benefits and it really does work great for small gardens. I have a friend in Saudi Arabia who has a small paved yard and he has an amazing collection of fruit trees growing in big pots. Incredible! Although I always see been on the flowers, I still hand pollinate. Do you hand pollinate yours? Thanks again and all the best. Daz.
Hi Daz, Haven't had to hand pollinate and I've been getting decent yields. They are the most amazing flowers that I have ever seen. They look so prehistoric, so complex, so beautiful, yet slightly menacing as well lol I've subbed to your channel & look forward to watching you vids 👍

G'day. Good luck with the new move and I hope it all works out well. If you are growing from seed, you should be able to worry less about suckers, as it seems to be an issue mainly with grafted plants from what I understand. I can't say for certain that growing from seed won't produce suckers in the ground where you are, but I thought I would mention it. All the best and thanks so much for watching. Daz.
G'day Bloo. That would be awesome if you could one going over there. I'm so lucky my first one produces a lot after just a year and now I hope this second one performs as well. Take care, Daz.

G'day. Thanks so much for dropping by. I really appreciate it. I enjoy showing people my cooking, my gardening and the amazing wildlife that visits. All the best and take care, Daz.
Thank you, Daz; I learned a lot. I have just bought three types of passion fruit (crafted, none-crafted, and Panama) from the Bunnings Warehouse and was searching to learn how to look after these lovely plants. I have also bought one pomegranate. I will buy two 150-liter woven bags ( one for the pomegranate and one for the passion fruit family) and was wondering if I could move all three passionfruits into one 150-liter woven bag or not. Thanks for your video again, mate.
G'day! Thanks so much for your kind words. I would not put all 3 passion fruit in the one pot as it's going to get really crowded for the root system. I would go as big as I could afford on a pot per plant to give those roots the best chance to grow. The non grafted can go in the ground and you don't need to worry about suckers coming up from the ground. Suckers are an issue with grafted passion fruit and do not always occur. A grafted plant is where they join 2 types of a plant together and the suckers are vines that come from the bottom section and try to be the dominant species. You may want to use pots anyway, which is fine and a great idea for renters or people with paved yards. Just know that you will need to keep the water up to them as the pots are exposed to the sun and will heat up. You could try to shade the pots with other pot plants and made a basic wood box around them to shade the pot from direct sun. Growing in a pot can restrict the growth of the passion fruit from becoming enormous as the roots can only grow so far in a big pot. This is usually a good thing for people wanting to use containers. I hope this helps and please have a look at what others say too as I am far from being an expert on the topic. 😁 Good luck and feel free to get in touch again. Daz.
G'day Paula, Randy and Summer. Thanks very much. I don't expect the video to get many views, as it's a fruit that cannot be grown in so many places, but I hope it helps those who can grow them. @@SlowlanelivingwithPaulaRandy the flavour is amazing. It's zingy with a bit of sweetness and a bit tart at the same time. The smell is amazing, very fruity. Seeds can be strained out, but most people and recipes, just include them.

Thank you from Florida! My home state is turning into a fascist cesspit right about now and it deeply hurts my heart, I love my home..so I’m retreating into creating a native garden this year. I have so many of these growing wild on the land we live on, gonna create a little Eden to get away in. ❤❤❤
Gooday mate. I would like some advice. I have a couple of passion fruit trees. Although their both very green and full of flowers. I had to hand pollinated all the flowers by hand, cause I noticed, they were aborting , yet didn't get not even one fruit to set. Thank you in advance. May the lord bless you.
G'day! I'm sorry for the slow reply and sorry to read that you having a little trouble. There would be a few things I would check, such as... Although you hand pollinated, did you get a lot of rain at the time? It may have washed off pollen. Is the plant getting enough sun? A good 5-6 hours is a good start. Has it or they been fed, to help give strength while trying to produce fruit? It's a tricky one as you have said that they are actually looking good with flowers etc... I'm not sure if I have been of any help, but good luck and I really hope you can resolve this as they are such a delicious fruit. All the best, Daz.
@@MyAussieGardenKitchen Hi Daz. Apparently I've found out why, my passion fruit weren't fruiting. I Just remembered that In the past, I used to have two different varieties of passion fruit, and back then I actually did get quite a few fruit to set fruit. Without the need of hand pollination. But ever since I lost the complete plant of one them, I had no compatable cross pollinators. Anyways I would like to thank you so much for your good advice. God bless. P. S. I will be planting another passion fruit plant of a different variety, this way I will start to get fruit once again.
Have the same size pot and I just noticed some suckers in the plastic grass and garden. It’s grafted so I just ripped them out. Pot is too small but it was already flowering so I’ll wait. I let the roots grow through drainage holes so it can go deep and wide until I lift pot severing roots.
I'm growing both maypop and passiflora caerulea. It depends on your approach, but caerulea foliage is more hardy, it can handle temperatures of 15F, maybe even 5-10F, whereas maypop tends to die back to the ground from temperatures of 25-30F. But if your area experiences winters which can get down to 5F or colder, then they'll all die back to the ground, and it's just a question of which ones bounce back the best in the spring. Last winter, it got down to -7F here during the coldest Arctic blast, and both my maypop and passiflora caerulea grew back from the roots, however, my passiflora caerulea started sprouting out of the ground in late May, while the maypop took until the very end of June. But my experience has been that in climates like mine, where winters are harsh and summers are somewhat short, it's better to bring them in containers and grow them indoors.
@@Lochness19 Thanks for sharing your experiences 🤓 I'm a container gardener and hopefully I have enough protection for my winter season to keep growing this plant. And add another variety.
G'day Dianne. That is so nice of you to say so and thanks very much for taking the time to let me know. If you ever have any questions when watching any of my videos, please feel free to get in touch. All the best. Daz.
Anyone can grow passion vines almost anywhere. There are so many varieties and colors out there. They can be started from seed, but it takes some patience and time. Regardless it will take at least one year of full growth to get a full established root system and produce fruit. The fruit is hit or miss dependent on the number of blooms and pollinator traffic. I've had butterflies, bees, and even hummingbirds pollinate mine over the past 15 plus years. My favorite has always been the Purple Incensa variety for the morning fragrance of fresh blooms in the house.
G'day! They are such a wonderful plant and our dog has dug up and ran around the yard with all 3 of mine now. So frustrating as she does not touch anything else in the yard. I even have 3 free ranging chickens in the yard with her and she's absolutely fine with them. I guess she has a thing against passion fruit. 😁 I'm in the process of moving one now and protecting it with wire. Have a great day and thanks very much for taking the time to comment on the video. Daz.
G'day. Sorry for the slow reply. Very behind at the moment and I apologise. In regards to the trellis, the first thing I would consider is the weight that the plant will eventually put on it. So cheapie light weight frames from big box stores would be a no go. The direction it faces is important, as you need as much sun as you can to shine on the foliage during the day and throughout the year. Materials will be dependent on your budget and you don't need to go crazy if cost is an issue. I recent put 2 second hand, steel stakes in the ground, with some recycled wire going between and that will be the base of my newest passion fruit trellis. If the budget is there later, I possibly will sink treated wood poles in cement, next to those stakes and have a roof like trellis reach back the the house so it can keep on climbing further. I hope all this makes sense and is of some help. Good luck and all the very best. Daz.
I've used galvanized cattle panel fencing attached to the metal posts of a wood fence or on fence T-posts for all my vines when possible. So easy to do, and strong enough to handle as much as you want.
G'day Bruce. You are very welcome and thanks very much for watching and also taking the time to comment. I really do appreciate it. All the best and take care. Daz.
Just found you! Thank you so much for your video… About three years ago, I put up a cattle panel and vent it to make a arbor type thing to grow passionfruit on. It was great filled it up. It was gorgeous… But I’ve only got maybe three passionfruit since all that time!? I don’t understand… Perhaps I needed to fertilize more? We live in the USA in Florida zone 10 A….the funny thing is that the one passionfruit plant I had in a different part of the yard that went and grew wild up the trees and up above is crazy and gave us fruit and we didn’t touch it or do anything to it. In fact, we forgot it was even there till we saw fruit. Probably eight years later after we planted it… We didn’t think it survived!?? anyhow we can’t figure out why our beautiful armored/trellis one isn’t producing fruit? Honestly, though now it looks like it’s on its way out not as full and luscious has been in the past year or so… I’m thinking of taking cuttings and planting them back in the ground there again and starting… I have to say I didn’t fertilize that much, but was told they don’t need it.? thanks in advance for any thoughts and advice!😊
G'day! Wow, that sounds beautiful! Are you getting flowers? If so, you can hand pollinate the flowers with a cotton bud or paint brush to encourage the fruit to set. Making sure the plant is getting enough water, food and sun will decrease the stress on the plant and it should flower more when not stressed. Is the plant a grafted plant and if so, are you sure that the vines are from the useful top part of the graft and it's not the suckers coming up from the root stock of the grafted plant? I hope this all makes sense. It's hard when not seeing a plant in person. Sorry for the delayed reply. I recently fell and hurt my hand and and I am now just catching up on comments. All the best. Daz.
@@MyAussieGardenKitchen I understand. Thanks so much for your awesome answer! Yes, I was getting flowers and I did try to hand pollinate at the beginning… But maybe I did not fertilize in water as much as I should have? I was told not to worry about that because they grow like weeds here in Florida and you don’t need to be that particular with them? I’m going to replant some around it, and be more diligent with the fertilizing and more watering… Thanks so much!!
G'day. I have only just seen this now and I love it! 😁😂 Thanks so much for sharing that with me. I definitely have to tell my wife and the older kids. 😂 That has made my day! Thanks so much and all the best. Daz.

Namaste Daz, Great informative video about how to plant and grow passion fruit plant in a container. You are genius guy. Thanks for sharing dear friend. 👍💐💐💐🙏
G'day Janet. Wow, that is awesome and all the very best of luck with them. I just love this plant. The fruit and flowers are so nice. All the best and take care. Daz.
G'day! Yes, I have had people tell me similar and a very large pot has helped them to enjoy their beautiful fruit. I hope you have great success with growing in a large pot and I do recommend that you keep the sides of the pot shaded by other pot plants or something like pieces of wood, so the pot does not overheat in the direct sun. All the very best. Daz.
G'day mate. Thanks very much. Is it too cool to grow them where you are? I love taking them from the vine and eating them fresh. It's such a tropical flavour. It's not tropical here, but I have the heat for them. All the best, Daz.
I love that you garden in sandals. I do too! Container planting is awesome to do. Especially if the weather get nasty. So easy to move. By the way, I have massive beard envy my friend.😉
G'day mate. I really need to wear boots in the yard as I'm right next to the bush and we have some of the most venomous snakes in the world here. I've had Eastern Brown in the yard and they are in the top 5 most venomous. You are so right about container gardening mate. 👍 Oh the beard. It's good until you wake up and find some of last night's dinner in it. 😋 All the best mate, Daz.
Thanks for the info! I'd love to be able to grow passion fruit, but not really suitable weather here. Maybe if I keep it potted and indoors through the winter months. Mandy
G'day Mandy. So nice to see you here. Yes, it's a shame they can't be grown in more climates as they are just so delicious. They grow well here, but the fruit still cost a small fortune in stores. I hope all is well, Daz.

Daz.
Did you ever get fruit from it?
Ugh! Sounds like Wisteria Vine. You handled the situation correctly.
Thanks and take care,
Daz.
Could be because the plant leaves and flowers are a sedative, u you can use them medicinally. I guess the pollen is also a sedative 😂
I live in Chicago can it be grown here?
@@rolandotorres7112There are hardy varieties to Zone 5. If too cold they can be grown in pots and brought inside for the winter.

I explain passion fruit suckers in more detail and I really hope it helps people avoid potential problems.
Just a note... If you know that your 2 passion fruit plants are NOT grafted, you don't need to be concerned too much about sucker vines and putting them in the ground should be OK.
I hope that made sense.
Thanks so much for watching my video and for taking the time to reply.
Good luck!
Daz.
Me too😰
With your concern about suckers, do be aware that they (along with other berry plants, or even bamboo) will find their way through your drainage holes. I half expected you to put a concrete square (18" x 18" x 2") beneath the pot ... that will best control suckers. Thanks for the good info otherwise.
G'day.
That's a really good point and thanks for bringing it up. 👍
I initially had a slab for it and was going to drill drainage holes on the lowest points on the sides of the pot.
All the best,
Daz.
I do the same with my mint plants. If I didn't keep them in containers, they would take over everything. I didn't know about Passion Fruit. Good information.
G'day Cindy.
Oh yes, I love mint, but wow it can be so invasive.
Thanks so much for watching Cindy.
All the best,
Daz.

They are such a beautiful plant and the fruit are delicious, but wow, the grafted varieties can really turn out to be a pain.

Hopefully I can help people avoid a headache in the future.

I could listen to you talk all day, Daz! Great, great video! I did not know this about passion fruit. How invasive!
It's the grafted ones that you really need to worry about as the root stock can be problematic.

I will definitely be at the next one. It was fun and thanks for doing it. Great idea!
This is an amazing fruit. Seeds can be annoying, but it's worth it.
All the best,

I have seen that you have been busy, so you will be hearing from me soon.
All the best,
Daz. 😊
I just moved up to Central Queensland. I'll give this a go. I just got some seeds the other day.
Daz.
@@MyAussieGardenKitchen Thanks.

Awesome!!! I soooo miss passionfruit i really need to get a vine going once we have a greenhouse or something.

Good luck with your plant and I have a more recent video from this year, about the suckers that can grow from grafted passion fruit roots, if you are interested.
All the best.

This is an interesting introduction to your channel. Looking forward to seeing all you'll come up with here. Be safe and well.

Good luck and feel free to get in touch again.
Daz.

@@MyAussieGardenKitchen Daz, I did have to goggle the fruit as I have not seen it before! It looks very pretty!
@@SlowlanelivingwithPaulaRandy the flavour is amazing. It's zingy with a bit of sweetness and a bit tart at the same time. The smell is amazing, very fruity.
Seeds can be strained out, but most people and recipes, just include them.
Just an FYI, I had some passion vines that sent up suckers all over the place, though I love the flower, I took that one out and put in a vine that does not shoot up suckers, it’s the best!
Thank you for the tips. I wish we could grow such wonderful fruits over here.

All the best,
Daz.
Great in tips 👍
G'day!
Thanks very much.

Daz.

G'day Cynthia.

I've been looking at passion fruits and it's looking like the Maypop is better for my area 🌱 Thanks for sharing your passion fruit plant.
First time watcher , your very passionate and wonderful personality thanks

I'm in the process of moving one now and protecting it with wire.
Have a great day and thanks very much for taking the time to comment on the video.
Daz.
Hi. Thank you for your video.
Any tips for making a trellis for the passion fruit?
Thank you for sharing this excellent video. some very good tips.
G'day Bruce.

We live in the USA in Florida zone 10 A….the funny thing is that the one passionfruit plant I had in a different part of the yard that went and grew
wild up the trees and up above is
crazy and gave us fruit and we didn’t
touch it or do anything to it. In fact,
we forgot it was even there till we
saw fruit.
My young bloke came to me the other day and said "hey dad , what’s that testicle plant down the backyard" I still laugh every time I think of it .
