As a Lay Crisis Counselor/First Responder/ & numerous years as a Parent on Campus ( great program that should be national implemented)! A little intervention goes along way! A little caring, & teaching them different choices! That life isn't what happens to you, or who your parents are, but what you do with it! Have watched those that got no intervention end up killers, & those who got it, listened & went from being aggressive bully in middle school to a buddy & friend to all in high school! We had a neighbor kid very much like EC in the 90s. I met him in the earlier stages. Told authorities this was a problem waiting to happen & the specific parent's were definitely the abusive cause! They never had enough evidence to do anything until he jumped off the school bus 1 day, ran inside & back out before the bus could move, & started shooting it up! I fully believe in the 2nd Amendment, but we were taught responsible handling! Those parents were extremely dangerous with weapons! It shouldn't have been surprising the result! Had another case where the bully started in the Principals office!!! Argued with him that they had a bully problem, severe, & needed to be firmly addressed asap! He refused & said no problems here! I believe it was less than a year later they had a mass killer go off in the lunch room! It never should have happened! Pulled my son the year before!

That's part of the problem, parents are not being held accountable for their irresponsibility, so it falls on the teachers shoulders, and they're not paid enough for that. The more the teachers accept on their plate, the more people are going to be "why didn't the teachers did this or that?" When in reality it's the parents responsibility.

Despite the understandable public hatred for Ethan, I will always wonder how different he might have been with loving, attentive parents & even as neglectful parents, what if his parents had at least gotten him the therapy he was desperately pleading for. How can a mother actually laugh at a child that pleads for professional help & has telephoned her & reported seeing things & is clearly reporting hallucinations. I can only imagine that all we have heard about their neglect is actually only the tip of the iceberg!

We try to make them somehow like us, but they simply aren't. Things that elicit empathy in most people elecit narcissism in them. Consistently, and without any concept that their narcissism might be problematic.
Everyone has narcissist thoughts from time to time, but we feel bad or ar least uncomfortable about ourselves when we do.
Whereas a truly narcissist person does not see anything wrong with their thoughts.
Add extremely violent feelings, and a belief that committing violence makes them powerful, which, in some ways it does, just not in the way they think it does, and you start getting into dangerous territory.

I loved it when the defense attorney tried to undermine the co-worker's credibility by getting her to say she knew very little about Ethan in spite of knowing a lot about Jennifer Crumbley's life (including something as intimate as her affair). Because it inadvertently revealed the fact that Jennifer simply wasn't interested or proud of her son enough to mention him much.
Jennifer Crumbley had the time for her job, an affair, taking care of her horses, going to casinos, doing yard and house work and going to a shooting range, but none to deal with her son's major psychological problems. No wonder those psychological problems existed in the first place. She sounds like the mother of a school shooter, alright.
Her plans to take him to her horse barn that fatal day, a place she knew he didn't like to be, and give him work to do there, was a big giveaway of where she was at as a parent. Even when her seriously sick son was crying out for her attention, she only wanted him to give her horses attention while she gave the horses attention also. She didn't actually think that would be good for him, rather she knew it would be easier for her than have to relate to Ethan directly. But that decision, which essentially created the tragedy in the first place, ended her denial.
It's obvious that Ethan's primary motive for his shooting spree was to vent his rage at both of his parents for not caring about him and even being repelled by his natural need for love and guidance. It's horrific that four innocent kids had to pay with their lives for Jennifer and James Crumbley's failure as parents and as human beings. Kids whose parents made Ethan Crumbley's parents look like co-conspirators by comparison.

Am I surprised? No. Took me trying to hurt myself before someone noticed something was wrong. I was 8.... hunny, it doesn't just magically start out of no where. This is one of the few cases I've seen that the parents were this flat our negligent.
I hid my illness once I got older trying to pretend I was fine... so I do understand when parents of older teens say they don't see it, our goal is to hide it. But this is different. He asked and was ignored. That's incredibly sad. Nobody had to be hurt. Geeze.

If they would have taken him home that day the shooting would have still happened. It seems as if his mind was made up. I don’t think anything could have stopped it. It was far to late for any help for him. He was failed many months, possibly years before this

The counselor should have called authorities and had him removed if his parents weren't going to help him. All of it is sickening to hear. Everyone should be held accountable. The poor families of these lost lives. 😢 In 2 weeks it will be 10 years since my youngest son passed away and I fully understand the 😔 grief and heartbreak. I have never been the same and my son's passing was not in any way horrible like the loss of these children. If my son had died like that I don't think I would have survived. My heart felt prayers go out to all who have lost children.
My heart breaks for this poor boy who has become so evil. 💔 No child deserves an upbringing like that. Another life ruined. I just wish people would give up their children for adoption to someone who would give them a good home. Do it at birth... there is no shame in that!
I have a half sister that our mom put up for adoption at birth because she was only 16. She was adopted by a couple who couldn't have children and raised to become a University Professor. When we met I told her that after 10 minutes hearing about her bio mom she would be thankful she was put up for adoption. She was!!

The love and worship of guns is so common in this country, a lot of these "warning signs" are just normal behaviors for too many people. So is a half empty bottle of whiskey in a bedroom....A lot of parents chalk it up to typical teenage angst.

It's sad how many kids and even adults have parents and family that don't take mental health seriously until something tragic happens. People need to wake up and stop disregarding that mental health is a real illness.

No the whole time they keep on mentioning Ethan I believe Ethan‘s Warriors should be inside of this court hearing too because he is mostly the main issue to the whole puzzle. But in reality his mother and father really just didn’t care about this poor child. They have health insurance they never used it with him. They never took him to mental counseling Ethan‘s journal talked about a lot of things that are going on and his life and the voices he here is and his head this is schizophrenia. This all could’ve been prevented by then you the the that was issued yeah the father when they are a gun he never mentioned that he is he is that he will to the gun. So he went in there but they can’t get his child want it. I’ll let his child go out with a gun into the woods and just shoot innocent animals that you’re not gonna eat. And then the whole damn thing with the school they drop the bomb. I’m sorry I really do believe that Ethan should have been 72 hours fake it acted once he was looking for ammunition that he was drawing pictures on his math test without suicidal thoughts and then bring them both down to the office talking to the health counselor I mean certain things you wouldn’t think that a child is going to do but in the meantime when the parent said no they were not taking him home then you should’ve called the police and had him 72 hours baker acted. I mean come on it doesn’t happen often but it does happen very often there’s lots of school shootings and it all comes down to children who are not being taken care of at home, along with people who have guns and don’t lock them up. Parents need to be held responsible for the children under the age of 18 years old that are living in their homes at all times. His parents care more about working on DoorDash, and also her down at the horse stables. She never mentioned anything about her child, she doesn’t show pictures of her child, she doesn’t even talk about her child. What kind of mother is this person I believe these parents need to serve at least 25 years in prison. I think that would be a long enough sentence for them to understand what they did that will give me enough time for each child and also Ethan must go to a mental health facility for at least 15 years.

I’m convinced Ethan’s free counsel is going to offer Ethan a way better defence after watching this. I’m not saying we should feel bad for Ethan, but he’s still a 15 year old who was looking to his parents for guidance and support. Instead they put a gun in his hands and discarded him at every chance, including after his arrest.
They’d still be lucky to get a guilty verdict and jail sentence, since IMO being victims of Ethan’s gun violence was also a likely scenario.
