  • Directed, produced, and edited by Nate Hovee, this NTG Production Izmit introductory film provides a unique look at one of Turkey's best kept archaeological secrets. Located approximately 90 kilometers east of Istanbul at the eastern tip of the Marmara Sea, Izmit today serves as one of the primary industrial centers in the Anatolian region. Underneath this bustling modern city lie the ancient ruins and treasures of Nicomedia, a prosperous and richly decorated city that once stood as one of the four pillars of the Roman Empire. Though recent findings of ancient artifacts, tombstones, and buildings have revealed the incredible wealth of Izmit's past, little excavation and archaeological research has been carried out.
    Discover the ancient history and hidden wonders of Izmit, Turkey, and the greater Kocaeli Province in this unique video presentation and tour of unknown archaeological sites dating back thousands of years. Closed captions (CC) are available in Turkish, and additional information can be found at the official Kocaeli website: www.kocaeli.bel... .

    The tomb you talk about at the 11:20 mark is the one I saw just after it was discovered. I was living at K.A.S. and went with my family to see it. My father copied the inscriptions, which were in ancient Greek, which we have deciphered. We have pictures of it from various angles. The construction crew knocked the top off of it and then proceeded to uncover the whole tomb, which is much bigger than what is now visible. The area around it has changed dramatically, as there were no buildings or tar roads back then. With this video, you have solved a 49 year old mystery for us. We always wondered what ever happened to it and tried many times to locate it on aerial photo's. Thank you!

      @@mergen3125 I don't speak only for the language,sure the language was greek. But greek people used to live there until the exchange of population 100 years ago! When they forced to leave their homeland and go to Greece as Greek orthodox Christians.
      Turkey have to admit the presence of the Greeks in Anatolia and stop hire their continuing existence for 2500 years.

    • @mergen3125
      @mergen3125 3 года назад +2

      @@taniola007 Turkey does admit the presence of the Greek population in Turkey. We all know these lands did belong to Greek states. You know how it was before the peaceful world established (or the peaceful world we are trying to establish), some people go somewhere, take others lands and settle there. There were also Turks who were sent from Greece to Turkey at that time, I know lots of their descendants. Well, actually, it wasn't a Greek-Türk "exchange", it was a Muslim-Orthodox "exchange". In today's city of Karaman and Konya, there were Orthodox Turkish people called Karamanlids who were forcefully sent to Greece. History is full of wrong doings my friend. The question is, if this wrong doings cannot be undone, what should we do? Sometimes forgiving is the last thing to do.
