DHARREO | LOWER HUNGPUNG | 2023 | UKHRUL DISTRICT | MEIPHUNG PRODUCTIONS

Hungpung Dharreo Phanit, founded by Mr. C.M Nganingkhui, was first celebrated during the early 1960s at Kasomtang, Hungpung. The word Dharreo - dhar means new and reo means pluck.
It's a festival celebrating the joy of harvesting the new crops where the crops that are harvested first are offered to God as a Thanksgiving and also prayers for the peace and prosperity of the coming future.
On this special day, people exchange goods, buy and sell their best newly harvested crops, domestic animals, hornets, wild fruits, handicrafts etc.
Games like dice(Laakao), lottery, cards and others were also played. Come join us as we celebrate Dharreo Phanit.
Many people from different places, from different walks of life, even outside Manipur come and enjoy the activities of Dharreo and contemplate the realities of human existence.
