Dam, I still have this, New York, New York, The Message, Rappers Delight, Apache, Freedom, Birthday Party, and others on the original Sugarhill Records 33-1/3 albums, in the original light blue covers!!! Man, I’m old!!! 😂😂😂
The silence for the first 10 seconds was hilarious though. I thought it was a freeze frame until Cowboy started adjusting his vest LOL.
THIS VIDEO IS SO SIMPLE BUT YET SO VERY EFFECTIVE
Thanks to RUclips this is my 1st time ever seeing this video... damn this takes me way to the house party days when nobody brought a gun when fights broke out....
this is real hip hop
You right this is real hip-hop
as are many other things
Lol if this shit was made today, you and many others would be out here calling it gay as fuck boy band shit. The fact that it's old doesn't make it any less Backstreet Boys. You want real hip hop, go listen to some KRS-One or Rakim.
@@Peksisarvinen Sugarhill Gang
Peksi Sarvinen have you ever watched hip hop evolution?
Folk have slept on these masters of the mic. And I say this is still among the best raps ever, in all kinds of ways!
so glad for youtube which allows us to be able to see this on demand today.
Just looking at the video, you can tell they was the flyest thing smoking back then! 🙌🏾
This is where it is all started with groups like this, gotta love it
THE Sugar hill gang started it of the hip hop 78 or 79 . Nobody should never forget them .❤
so great to be able to see this today old footage today
The real old school hip hop
Beautiful Beats ! & a mention/ shot-out to Slick Rick !
That's not rapper slick rick haha he doesn't exist in 1981.
We were on our high-school class trip-Martin Luther King HS Phila Pa Stenton and Haines street- i pulled out my year book- Memory Lane!! When this song came on we went crazy!!❤❤
😂😂😂 also from Philly, from south west and was in the 4th grade at this time ❤️😊
Crazy how many of their beats are classics and still get used in song until today
Give credit to The Tom Tom Club, which GMF sampled.
@@katsrin they recreated it live and made changes
Thanks for that info.
grew up with these guys. RIP Keith
really cool ... hey i know it's the furious 5 .. but why or who is that 6th guy in the front during this video. i know melle mel, scorpio aka mr. ness, rhaheem, cowboy, kid creole ... but that other guy? what name am i missing?
The 6th member that’s rapping is Duke Bootee he passed away
@@ricardotorres4150 Duke bootee is not 6th member he is 9th member.

@@BTman58 Thank you for this !
@@BTman58 Amazing sample that he used.
@@sjsiemka
This song was re-recorded with live instruments. This is pre sampling.
@@BTman58 Oh damn! That's cool!
The way they flowed and rhymed in the early 80’s so effortless and smooth. Rappers today can't match it.
Chuck D left them *ALL* in the dust
@@sexobscura 😂😂😂
I knoww!!!!!! So good!
@@sexobscura yep, Moe D and Rakim too
No, rappers today choose not to do this because it's pretty hard to pass a serious message when you sound like you're a kid jumping around in a bouncy castle.
Every so often I come back to this just to feel the euphoria of a nostalgic moment. To have been blessed to be a product of hearing this, dancing to this , knowing every lyric, and wanting to be "The furious 6th member", this video takes me to a musical paradise, and a place in time when The Party was a party and Music was music !
Naw bruh, he said the 6th member 🤣😭🤣😭🤣 = I feel you though
I remember the song but this is my first time ever seeing the video.
Never knew they had this video..gonna make everybody wanna rock rock rock
feel cool and hanging around, just possible with this old stuff.

HAPPY 61ST BIRTHDAY JOSEPH SADDLER "GRANDMASTER FLASH" [(JANUARY 1, 2019)
and today 62st!🥳
The 80's, the best decade❤
The 7th member you see was more of an honorary member. Kevie Kev AKA Waterbed Kev. He's right in the middle between Scorpio and Raheim. He was in the Fantastic Freaks crew, Grand Wizard Theodore...
Ok. Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering who that was
Can you name the members from left to right (in the beginning)? I cant make them out because it's too grainy and I just discovered their music!
@@RoseMarieMullins L To R - Cowboy (Who i thought had arguably the greatest voice in Hip Hop - RIP) Kid Creole, Raheim, Kevie Kev/Waterbed Kev, Scorpio/Mr.Ness, Melle Mell & in the back DJ Grandmaster Flash
@@roboliver8789 thanks rob!
Thanks for that, I was wondering if it's GMF & TF5, why can I see 7 people 😂
Bought this When it first came out - Baltimore was rocking this hard from east side to west side and Druid Hill park to Patterson park !
Same here but in Santa Cruz, California NO one was rockin this, haha! Times would soon change. Hip Hop was changing weekly. It was an exciting time to be into this new music!
I totally had this on vinyl in '83
I have it now. I’m 23 and love it
What is the original length of that song?

This is so dope we need more of this
This was punk rock/subversive/a threat at the time. New, without precedent. A privilege. The Black Beatles. Societally. ‘

Thank you legends! Triple OG’s! One love from the LBC. California love! Peace
I wasn't born till 1997 im 27 this year man I wish I was back then back when music made sense
My kids are a bit younger than you and they only like retro stuff, creativity is long gone. It sucks you missed out on all the magic.. The 80s were an awesome time to be alive!
But on the bright side, gems like this are at your fingertips thanks to modern tech. My generation had to wait around in record stores lol. ✌️
@@EllaJay that's cool that you're kids like the old stuff to I wish I was around growing up back then back when hip hop was hip hop and rap was rap music today just sucks I'm from Australia so I wouldn't really get to go all the old hangout spots in the US

Back then rappers were bragging about their colleges, and it was positive.
0:10 Dope Tom Tom Club sample from Sylvia Robinson
Not a sample the Sugarhill house band played it🥁🎺🎹🎸🎼🎛
I fkn love this shit. "Do it to the east do it to the west" real pioneer shit right there. Bc they did it. N the grandmaster flash hype up. That guy made rap happen. Can we agree tht grandmaster flash is the bill gates of hiphop n rap music in general?
Then again memphis came in n three 6 mafia mixed the game up.
Wasn't even the first rap song to sample Genius of Love
Roll Call Gold! Brings back so many memories! Peace! 😊

03:27 The guy that starts rappin is Cowboy who coined the term Hip Hop, while imatiting a group of soldiers marching by hip/hop/hip/hop/hip/hop
Lucas Avesta he did not coin the term hip hop
Lucas Avesta Sugarhill gang
Yes it was cowboy that coined the term and it was Africa Bambaataa that named hip hop with this word.
