- At MogFest 2017 all sorts of vehicles show up.
Unfortunately our Wombat (the L300) wasn't completely ready for it as I battled a few major flaws in my airbag system. So was the endless air spitting oil and there were air leaks just about anywhere.
I was amazed the wombat actually made it that weekend, although shorty and dragging its belly at any little protrusion.
I am glad to say most problems have been tackled now. Looking forward to be back one day to show how the van behaves at 150 psi without air leaks.
Was a fantastic weekend, with great people and amazing meals.
Thanks to anyone involved!
Love the fact that the Pinz is still wearing Austrian Army markings! And the Haflinger is just awesome. Greetings from Vienna!
🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤😂🎉ны😊❤
The first time I saw a Pinzgauer I had no idea what it was, but knew that I wanted one.
The Austrians stopped the production in the middle of the 90's. Because they used VW LT Engines. And VW stopped the LT for the Daimler Sprinter/VW Crafter. As I know, the production of the Pinzgauer was continued at the UK for the british Army. At first with the Rest of the VW Engines, afterwords, with other Engines, now 4Cylinders...(sorry for my bad english! )
Love a pinzgauer, used to drive 6 wheeled ones in the army
Takes me back to my younger days when a friend owned and drove a Haflinger No body knew what a Haflinger was back then and its top speed on the highway wasn't all that great - indeed I remember the times when at high speeds we were regularly being passed by snails - but boy did we have fun with it.
Wow look at the haffie go! Fantastic thanks
Nice to see the austrian military vehicles in Australia! Greetings from the birth-place of all the Puch’s...! Greetings from Austria!
austrian quality built in graz
und vom stronach heinzi verscherbelt
Just clicked at this because of the thumbnail :D
Greetings from Austria!
the Mitsubishi Van really impressive!
Joe Ng
I want the mitz
Yes, but I didn't get the meaning of the remarks with 70 psi due to leaks in the system. Can't be the tyre pressure ...
@@franktechmaniac7488 Probably ARB Diff Locks they run with compressed air
Great flex on the Perentie. Front and rear maxi lockers and it will be unstoppable with all the torque.
Everybody knows the qualitys from Haflinger and Pinz....but...respect for the Mitsubishi !!!
A vallent effort fr the L300 4x4, and a marvelous job by the defender
Loved driving the pinzgauer when I was in the air force . What a machine . And I never knew those Mitsubishi space wagon things were so capable off road . I always thought they look like you could tip it over with a sneeze . Awesome vid mate
Great work Martin. I like the Mitsubishi as well cause it is not an army vehicle but it still does the job
Awesome ✌️ think I liked the first one best 😁
i first saw the steyr-daimler-puch pinzgauer in a four wheeler magazines from the eighties , i think it was . they do really well off road because they appear to have a lot of wheel travel . the wheels can drop into a hole and get some traction instead of just hanging in the air . there is another vehicle i saw in a four wheeler magazine that is a lot like the pinzgauer , it is called the volvo cross-country
To Warren Buchanan, funnily enough mentioning that Volvo did a vehicle influenced by the Pinzgauer - I was looking on the internet about a Soviet company called ZAZ.They were also influenced by the HAFLINGER! They did a copy, and of course, it ALSO looked great! But I don't think it of course had Portal works - ,(either Portal refers to the differentials or axles). This involves the diff somehow being ABOVE an axle, rather than being a bulge IN the axle, thus hampering ground clearance! Only the Steyr-Puch Haflinger and Pinzgauers had this unique arrangement- so they reign supreme, of course! They must have patented the design, because nobody else has it.
@@nygelmiller5293 there is also one russian company called "GAZ" that builds trucks . they copied the ford A and AA trucks before WW2 and the russian army used them in WW2 . i made a mistake in my comment . the test of the volvo cross-country would have been in a four wheeler magazine issue from between 1976 and 1982 i think . i became interested in in cars when i was 12 or 13 , and my father started buying me magazine subscriptions , like car and driver , road & track , and four wheeler . the volvo looks almost exactly like the pinzgauer but it doesnt have a diesel engine , it said in the test it uses the gas inline 6 that they use in their cars . a while back i googled searched " volvo cross country " but it only showed the station wagon car they built recently that they also call the cross country . if you like reading about off road trucks there is a book , my father bought me it when i young , it is called " the observers book of fighting vehicles " , published by the olyswager corporation . i'm not sure if i spelled the name correctly . it is a small book and it is not shaped like most books it is wider than it is tall , like a car owners manual . it has a lot of pages though . you may be able to find a used one on ebay . there was a czechslovakian company called "tatra " that was building trucks when WW2 broke out and i guess the germans captured the factory because they used tatra's . they built some heavy cargo trucks that had independent front suspension i think they were the only company that did . of course , they did'nt put i.f.s. on them for ride or handling , i would'nt think , they did it to improve off-road traction . in that book it shows probably every brand of truck that was used in WW2
@@warrenbuchanan2718 from Nygel Miller
Thanks for replying to my comment! The publisher you mentioned does go back a long way, I remember it is called OYLSLAGER (with L in the middle), rather than OYLSWAGER.
that book i was telling you about is called " the observers fighting vehicles directory WW2 " , by bart h. vanderveen . there are at least 4 of them for sale on ebay right now . the one i have is the one that has a tan / yellow truck on the front cover . you should get one , you will like it . it has like 1000 pictures and some are like the factory drawings of a vehicle
Greatings from Austria! Nice to see😊
Hey, thanks!
Impressed by the L300 !!!
Never seen the Haflinger Pinz, really cool.
No my friend, not a Haflinger Pinzgauer. They are TWO separate models. The tiny one is the Haflinger , and the big one is the Pinzgauer! These are named after HORSES by the way, and were made by Austrian company Steyr-Puch.
Dankie jan ek het dit geniet xxxx
I rented one of those Haflingers for a week and took it into the Welsh mountains, the thing was like a goat!!
Great video! Would have loved to see a 6x6 Pinzgauer for comparison. I don't the opportunity to do mud here in Arizona.
Always loved Haflinger
Pinzgauer is such a boss, the only thing more impressive might be a Unimog.
I think I like the Pinz better to be honest
@@High_Desert_Tanner unimog is a more capable off roader. The diesel engine makes it super durable
@@dieselgeezer18 Honestly, I tend to disagree. The Unimog is more of a truck, but the Pinzgauer will beat it off the road.
@@wp8022 I do not believe that. the Unimog has larger tires and, thanks to the Solid axle and coil spring, plus a very flexible frame , much better axle articulation.
@@pfarraldcash6095 In the end, it depends on the terrain. Whilst you are absolutely right about the solid axles, bigger tires and frame on the Unimog, the Pinzgauer is much more maneuvrable and way lighter, which in some situations definitely is an advantage.
bad ass amazing pinzgauer.
Mitzi ain't bad either
parente is just a bleeping tank
The Pinzgauer STILL rocks!
Land Rover Has won. So many pinz fan boys. The pinzgauer isn't bad, but it's more for mud and going fast on bumpy surfaces. Honor to those who deserve it. And I say that as an Austrian.
The Haflinger was very impressive. Did it perform part of the task in 2 WD? It's an amazing vehicle.
Just like the Pinzgauer it has 4 wheel drive and both lockable differentials that can be engaged during the ride without stopping
Pinzgauer is more a truck than a car, so comparison is unfair since it has much higher ground clearance! Is like to compare it with Unimog or Tatra 8x8 truck!
While I am a HUGE fan of European engineering: Pinzgauer, Unimog, with the Haflinger I am reminded of the Japanese KEI mini pickups.
That van is more rowdy than a lot of jeeps lol
that L300 has big balls man ,,, 10 outa 10
Haflingers were sold in the U.S. at one time (probably briefly) and I chanced to see one. Didn't drive it or examine it very closely, just a walk-around. At the time, I was driving a short wheelbase Land-Rover wagon (estate car). The trick to going anywhere with a 4x4 is to pick your road very carefully. I would never have attempted anything like these vehicles are doing.
Thank you for unedited sound hehe, love to hear the diesels
Actually Im not sure the Puchs are diesels.
Cool vid.. thanks👍
Do foaht die Stobsbattrie!
The Defender was amazing!
Just need a Volvo c303 to join in now!
Well I am impressed with the skill and guts, I would maybe try it in a Leo2
Officiallly the Haflinger never got the TR touring car engine with it. But there are trial conversions that got this 50 HP engine!
Brilliant job guys
If the terrain is too difficult for a mule or a goat, you have to take a Haflinger.
0:06 what about that big croc on the left pretending to be a rock ..
The L 300 did very well.
Lockers are impressive on ridged trucks but its alot less scary with proper articulation like the defender
Since when do defenders have proper wheel travel?
Wheel travel doesn't help on slippery or very loose surface. Checkout the hellklamm videos here on yt.
Cool haflinger flat bed golf cart
I like the side by side
The holes have.to be gigantic when a big vehicle like the Pinzgauer nearly rolls over
lovely video!
It can be deadly to have the plan opened at the back by the Pinzgauer, because the smoke of the of the motor get pulled back in to the vehicle...
well done to the guy in the mitzi , well driven.
This is best for house 🏠 hold work. If i have a money i will buy that truck. I like first and third truck. ❤️
If that small little truck can do everything, forget about even a Toyota
Land Rover , best axle articulation without major modification. Diffs , hmmm not so good.
Love the wombat, great technical driving. I'd love to own one but it's very hard to find one in europe
i can search u one
There are a few running around in The Netherlands!
@@ghcatzen what price would have the wombat?
Lots of them in Norway. Or they are becoming a bit more rare now as they are quite old. But still no problem to get a hold of them
Could use softer suspension on that thing
The ol haflinger is well oiled
Guy driving the wombat wasn't what you would call smooth
Einfache Konzepte sind oft auch mit extremem Hightec nicht zu schlagen!
Pinzgauer is the best one - no doubt!
Fahrzeuge with character!
Great vid this one! though the Pinzgauer and the Haflinger would have more wheel travel? very surprised that they don't have more?
You only get more if you have some weight on the back. Its a Light Truck after all.
No need for wheel travel when you have 3 diff locks
The central frame with portals doesn't allow more wheel travel. The landy need wide axle articulation due to its poor awd (no axial locks).
Пинцгауэр просто создан для Костромских дорог! 💪💪💪
And the winners are ...Land Rovers and Delica van.
I was thinking of portals on my CJ7 and sammi, but if it doesn't allow any flex then that idea is in the trash.
These had soooooo little droop🤨
Land rover is the only one with articulating wheels
thats bad ass i want one
Amazing how affordles the Pinzgauer goes through
Wow
The others have to fight
Pinzgauer like "Nah I'm good" 😅
👏👍
would get one -- however its always economics parts for pinzzys are pricey as well for Volvo C303 and the other military vehicles might as well if you own one have a full machine shop otherwise stick with in country 4x4's--Mitsu Delica's parts are becoming more plentiful and never buy a new Landrover/Rangerover get used
Ok. let's do it again only this time under an artillery barrage.
Why to drive on this lousy road, when you can go around?
It's there to test your vehicle so you know what it does before you end up on a track like that without any options
Pinz for the winz!
so much more impressive with open diffs
wombat is the star ,,,,
lol..ironie off...
Yes, if you want a car, which is also for normal roads... but 4 outdoor use, austrian offroad technology still rocks... though its over 40 years old...
Hey Martin.
What engine does Wombat has ?
Thanks :)
The Wombat runs with its original 2.4 l petrol engine (16 valve).
lucky the land rover didnt rust away before it got out of the wet bit.
Now now.
It’s got a galvanized chassis and aluminum body. Where I come from they had to recall tens of thousands of Tacomas and T100’s and Tundras because the rear chassis and bumpers dissolved during our winters.
Was the defender running standard centre different lock or did it have lockers in axles?
Chris, the Perentie had only the centre diff lock at the time of this video. The rear diff has been updated since with an auto locker though :-)
What was the strategy in running the Pinz and the Hafi in twin lock? Both of these vehicles have 3 locking diffs.
"Twin locked" means locked in both directions (longitudinal and transverse locks engaged).
This is what roads are like in Edmonton.
Нету лучше велика чем Мицубиси делика
Great vids you have , Is the perentie on standard suspension ? , I think mine might be a bit stiff to do that , Time will tell tho ,
Compared to regular 110’s the perentie has a +50mm stock lift and the springs are bolted in place, defender springs have a tendency to jump out of the cradles when flexing too hard
That thing is a fucking beast
What are the tires that are used on the Haflinger? Does it also have a different engine than stock?
The Haflinger has a Toyota motor.
@Bez Bizara What? I thought Haflingers had a little 700cc flat twin petrol engine.
Emma Jacobs you’re right!!
@@emmajacobs5575 That was certainly Mr Hubnuts opinion recently , why would it have a 6 cylinder motor in something weighing 400 kg?
@@RONAEMVCS i think the haflinger uses a DAF flat 2 engine uses in the DAF 33/ 44 ?
Looks like Wombat has lockers. VERY cool!!!
Lockers on Defender??
wouldnt stop it rusting
The defender did it with no lockers. The defender rely on extreme wheel articulation instead.
@@AndreasBrOlesen more like relying on brute force pushing it through. Also im pretty sure this defender wasnt stock. A stock defender really isnt nowhere near as good offrpad as any other vehicle in this video
ben walker please explain how to overcome a lack of friction (on slippery or loose ground) by large axle articulation. The puchs still move with only one wheel having traction.
Где ЛУАЗ ?
Sorry! Please translate to English 🙏
Amazing mitsubishi L300
Cheapest car
No one is talking about the flexible defender , better than the new shitbox by JLR!
Hay quá
хахаха, да я тут на девяточке проеду!
💞💞💞💞💞💞
Guys I liked them all,but the Land Rover is the winner
Landrover wouldn't of made it through the first ditch. I train military landrovers and pinzgauers and the pinzs clears things that the landrovers constantly fail at.
@ben walker rarely use the diff locks on the pinz on our off road course and it still goes places the land rover can't. Far better suspension to keep wheels on the ground and even when they do come off it still passes power to the other wheels regardless. Unlike the landrover. Landrovers do have their uses. But they are not as good as some of the rose tinted spectacle wearing followers think they are.
@@ashh6540 pretty clear from this vid and many others on yt that pinz have quite poor flex. Independent suspension almost always has articulation limitations, look at the hummer h1 or the trucks in this vid. The fact of the matter is that the landy kept its wheels on the ground for longer, so with lockers it would fair even better.
However there is more to offroad than just flex such as clearance, tyre size, balance etc.
@@joshuabrown9398 I drive both vehicles for a living and the pinz can do things and get over things the landrover can't, and I prove it time and time again. I don't get my results from watching videos, I actually go out and try it.
What engine is in the Haflinger ????
In original configuration it's a 0.648 ltr twin aircooled boxer, pushing out 22 HP. Empty weight is ~ 600 kg, max load 400 kg... can go up 65% ..
Where is perentie in this video?
Nice video with wrong heading.
The Perentie drives up and down, starting from 3:45
Like a zaz 969 Ukrainian little car 4x4
no belttttttttt !!!!
even with bad drivers the austrian cars are the best by far ha ha just think when they were developed-decades ago! puch is still the best-look at the puch g...(mercedes for germans lol)
... Some of us here in the States would gladly trade back Arnie to Graz for a next gen Puch. ... Deal?

三菱デリカに秀樹感激Goodです=3
Who the hell designs/builds a super fancy looking "off-road" vehicle without portal axles ....
It seems like one of those luxurious Mercedes G that only look good because they are bought by people who never go off-road (I really like G class)/
I'd take pencg. Any day.
