    The Pinz has always been one of the best off road trucks ever falling very close to the Unimog and the GAZ 66. Its amazing what the 712 can do with such small tires, very little suspension and an 88 hp air cooled engine! Extremely impressive.

      They are almost perfect off-road vehicles, square, cabover, and simple. If you like Unimog's stay tuned for my next video!

      @@ultimateoffroad4x472 I was originally looking for a Pinz 712 and found one online for sale it was in an ambulance configuration, it looked pretty good but I thought about it to long and it was gone. A few weeks later I saw the same truck for sale again by the same guy, again I waited to long and it was gone. Lo and behold a couple weeks after that it was online again by the same fellow and he was asking 14K for it, the add said "serious offers considered but dont waste my time", I thought that a bit strange? I called the guy and he was very abrupt to the point of very RUDE and I asked if he would consider an offer and I offered him 12,500 cash. You know how an offer goes I offer and he counter offers and we meet somewhere in between? Well this guy just said read my add, YOU are wasting my time and hung up on me! If he would have been even a tiny bit civil I likely would have paid him the 14K but he was such an A-Hole I just said screw it and bought a Unimog for almost 3 times his price! Bad experience! I love my Mog but still have great admiration for the 712! I look forward to your next video!!!

    I love my 710 M. I’ve had it over 5 years and has never let me down. Noisy as hell. Kinda slow on the highway. But no doubt very capable. I have never had any problems getting parts for it.

    One of those white Volvo Lapplanders would be my choice. 6 Cylinder engine, and much more room in the vehicle. That flat 4 in the Pinny always seems underpowered, and sounds horrible when working hard. I guess you could put a Porsche engine in for the power and sound, but it seems like a waste.

    • @skijumper5595
      @skijumper5595 4 года назад +2

      I think the pinzgauer is much better and you can buy pinz with 6 cylinder diesel. You can see what a 80 hp engine can do with an 2000kg vehical (pingauer 6x6). In the austrian military they have still the first model.

      @@skijumper5595 Don't get me wrong, I think it's amazing where you can make a Pinny go, and the Haflinger in some ways is even better with much less horsepower. But I have a friend here with one of the diesels, and primarily it just seems a bit faster on road, it still looks under powered most of the time, but it always gets where it's trying to go. Generally this is typical of military vehicles, old Land Rovers, and even original Gwagons are the same. Putting a more powerful engine in doesn't necessarily translate to any better offroad performance, but it does mean more weight, which means less carrying capacity, and it means more fuel consumption, which means carrying more fuel, and therefore less of something else. Military vehicles are work horses not race horses, and are actually very finely calibrated to give the best overall performance in the role chosen for them. I understand all this, i just like Lapplanders, and that Volvo straight six is a sexy sounding beast, though it probably isn't much better off road. I think i like the Valp even better, although it has a smaller less powerful engine, it's just cute. My favourite military vehicle was designed by the father of the Pinzgauer, and Haflinger designer(so I have read), and is essentially the same design, just bigger. Actually the Pinzgauer and Haflinger are shrunk versions of the original. Like both of them the Tatra 813 is built on a backbone with swing axles, and gets extraordinary traction and stability from this set up. But despite the 18 litre engine, or even the later 19 litre version, it only has 300hp, so it stays true to this underpowered military ethos. None of that seems to affect the ability of any of this remarkable trio, no the Volvo is not related despite having 6 wheel drive, but it did inspire the Landrover 101, which is awesome in it's own way, even though that sweet sounding little v8 is essentially short on power. Even being underpowered it's still one of the best all terrain military gun tractors ever built in my opinion. It's been proven time and time again that especially for military vehicles, added power does not make them perform their function better. I just like it.

      That's not a Laplander its a C304 and though larger than a Pinzgauer they are much cruder vehicles. After owning a Pinzgauer and having driven a Volvo C304 you couldn't pay me to own one.

      The sound of the Pinz is something special. Even more so when it's working hard. That almost asthmatic sounding "breathing", has a special place in my ears. Just like the noise of the Bell UH-1. Both of them you hear long before you see them comming. And as an austrian, when you are crawling through the woods on your belly (conscription service) and hear a Pinzgauer, you can be sure who's side it's on. (i think almost nobody else still uses them anymore)
