I think you went way too hard on this thing, to me it seems like they just wanted to create a budget option that's similar to their existing handhelds but much cheaper. You just decided that it was trying to be a mini device and then bash it for not being the form factor of a mini device. This is the device you get when you realize that the Myioo Mini is not going to come back and you can't get one for an acceptable price. I have to say that installing a new OS is not hard at all. You can install Garlic OS in a couple of hours. Regarding the Power available, besides running upscalled PS1 games flawlessly, the GPU was unlocked recently (it wasn't even using the GPU. Just software emulation) and you can "run" Mario 64 on it (not very well though... Yet). You can add controlers via USB and with a dongle you can add controllers via bluetooth. Overall, I am quite impressed with it and playing through a few games atm. Both GBA and PS1. Those consoles have some amazing bangers. Just an FYI, for 55 bucks you are getting PS Vita levels of hardware. Makes you wonder...
Something I’d like to recommend, is if you think something is better, recommend what you would get instead. If not, just the general next upgrade so people can go look at reviews for it as well. Just friendly advice :)
I'm honestly considering upgrading from my RG280V to this. Performance wise I'm perfectly happy with it, and Adam Image is great, but honestly, the screen is just too small. I love the look of the Miyoo Mini, but I'd have the exact same problem with that.
Its a solid device for the price. As you said, at$50-60 it does what it needs to do perfectly. I wouldn't say its only for beginners. A lot of us just want a nice looking device that can play retro 2D up to GBA.
351V is still great to use, the screen on it is one of the better ones, firmware wise there's a few options too which makes the experience so much better.
I was so excited to get this device, but the subpar default OS and the lack of Wi-Fi for Retroachievements killed it for me. The recent onset of custom firmware will redeem it some.
Hey Retro, your rg353v at 0:53 looks different than the ones you can buy online. Where did you get this particular one? I really like the classic look of it.
The question is: it comes ready to play or we need to set up as usual? For guys that hate using PC to download and setting up… does it fit ? Some websites says it doesn’t come with good SD card, doesn’t comes with the main retro games, like Mario etc etc etc.
First time handheld emulator gamer, I just bought mine and it arrives tomorrow. I’ll come back and give my feedback Update Edit: I absolutely love it! My primary reason for purchasing was to play Pokémon ruby, sapphire, emerald, fire red, and leaf green in a nostalgic feel. Not only that but there’s a nice few thousand game added on bonus which is cool. I’m very pleased!
It's great to see anbernic break into a new market and I myself really am not a fan of "mini" devices due to not wanting to sqint my whole gaming session and would rather get something a bit bigger like the Pocket Go S30 or RG351P but I got to say this is the first vertical handheld I like the asstetic of due to the big screen and layout. Got to give them props for the amazing screen tho with pokimon or a bright colored game it looks FANTASTIC. my 2 cents.
It works well, and you can toss it into your bag or into your pocket with your keys and not have to worry if it gets scuffed up or something happens to it because it's cheap.
The device is advertised at $55 from the website, but as soon as you go to check out it'll cost you $80 basically to get it to your door which is on par with Amazon's pricing. So... the price of this machine should be noted at $80, not $55. Mine arrives in a couple days and I'm curious to see how many points you hit on in this review that line up with my own thoughts. Hoping that it's comfortable in the hands. Tired of emulating on phones that just aren't very nice to hold
@@sawsauce I think its really good, but I do still need to do the upgraded OS on it to unlock more features. What you get for $80 is honestly pretty freakin incredible.
i think reviewers over/misuse words or phrases at times. "underpowered" is one of them. everything is relative. this would be underpowered if it costs more. or if Anbernic stated that it could emulate DC & GC. or if every other device on the market could emulate those systems. its not underpowered. its a handheld designed to play PS1 and earlier.
It's clear you're VERY biased against them. You jab at them alot during this video for no reason, idk if you have something against them, but that shouldn't bleed into your videos. Turns me off of the video very fast.
Is it possible to trade on these systems? For example, when playing Pokemon you have to trade Kadabra to get Alakazam. Is this possible on these handhelds?
I don’t have a pc but I want to get into n64 handheld gaming. What console would you recommend for 99% mainly 64 gaming and not having the ability to use a pc to download roms?
Guy likes to bash new releases from Anbernic. More models = better for us, more options and price range. Size is perfect, screen is nice, performance is adequate for it's price. Buttons from Anbernic are great and with the new GarlicOS the device is now truly shining.
This device seems to sit squarely above the Pow Kitty ultra budget devices. I have tried to find retro handhelds for friends and family that don't typically use these devices but just have some nostalgia for a few games. I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I want it to be easy for them to understand if they don't have an inclination to tinker. The Pow Kitty devices have too many catches whenever it comes to saving games and order of operations for turning off the device that might break their system. Even with a custom OS the Pow Kitty devices I think don't check all the boxes, and this device seems to do so. I think you're right on the nose when you say this is great for beginners, and that's exactly what I want this device for. Thanks for your time and effort in making these videos.
I want to buy this for my nephew but his parents don't let him play a lot of games. Is it easy to delete games that his parents don't want him to play?
The sd cards that come with these handhelds are awful and will die over a short period of time. Even if you dont want to download roms you need to clone the sd card to a sandisk or some other reputable brand. Just buying these with 0 tinkering is not a good long term plan
So the big question is this: As a newcomer to emulator handhelds that doesn't want to break the bank, is this worth grabbing, or waiting for the miyoo mini to come back in stock?
@@abzu235 yeah, I messaged miyoo on AliExpress and they said that the mini won't be in stock again for a long time, just that the mini plus will be in March, but it's the same size as the RG35xx. I picked up a gray 35xx last night after watching a bunch more videos and deciding if I wanted to spend more on the 353v for a bit more, but realized that the 35xx and garlicOS is all I need. I can always 3d print the "better rear buttons" off thingiverse for myself if I hate the shoulder buttons. It's just a shame the PSP2000 isn't as good as people said. I have one, new battery, RetroArch'd it, set it to always run 333mhz and it can't play SNES super Mario without unplayable levels of audio crackle no matter what I try in arch.

I actually just got mine recently and have been having a blast with it. the stock OS is fine like mentioned, very simple, but i will be upgrading it to Garlic OS. It came with a lot more games than i had expected and the screen quality is awesome.
Idk man I own alot of handheld and so far this one has been my favorite for gba in particular. Something just feels right about it. Maybe it's the closest thing to a real Gameboy idk

But I do see a LOT of cut corners on the software . I will be transitioning to the new Garlic OC in a few days 👍🏻
Great review! Only (in my eyes very important) point I was missing is the wrong aspect ratio on many systems on the stock OS which also can't be changed via settings. All systems be it GB(C) that are normally 10:9 or GBA that is normally 3:2 are displayed stretched to 4:3.

Its a solid device for the price. As you said, at$50-60 it does what it needs to do perfectly. I wouldn't say its only for beginners. A lot of us just want a nice looking device that can play retro 2D up to GBA.
Does it have an internal clock? I play Pokemon Unbound and I need a handheld that can track time.
should I buy this or RG351v? in my country the price different between those are about 10 usd
*RG351V* is more powerful.
It can play more systems & games.
351V is still great to use, the screen on it is one of the better ones, firmware wise there's a few options too which makes the experience so much better.
Get the RG351V
RG351V all the way - better controls, better build quality, better display, better sound, better CFW and much better performance!
It is an older *RG351V* with Sakura Mod stickers on it, AFAIK.
@@adamkane7513 Thanks! I appreciate it.
How u play duck hunt. On here. Without light gun
The question is: it comes ready to play or we need to set up as usual?
For guys that hate using PC to download and setting up… does it fit ?
Some websites says it doesn’t come with good SD card, doesn’t comes with the main retro games, like Mario etc etc etc.
What was the GPU again?
My friend just got one and she loves it so far. She got it specifically for Pokemon games
who said anbernic was trying to create a mini? I would say its more "perfect" sized.
First time handheld emulator gamer, I just bought mine and it arrives tomorrow. I’ll come back and give my feedback
Update Edit: I absolutely love it! My primary reason for purchasing was to play Pokémon ruby, sapphire, emerald, fire red, and leaf green in a nostalgic feel. Not only that but there’s a nice few thousand game added on bonus which is cool. I’m very pleased!
I will consider buying this but I also want the redroid pocket 3+
What did you get?
I'm honestly curious as to the pre-installed games included here
Anybody remembers the RG300...? It even has "Omron Switches" !!! I don't see any reason to upgrade.
If you only want to play nes gameboy and gameboy color then sure dont upgrade. If you want to play gba snes and ps1 then its a good upgrade from that
I don't know but I love to play this on now more than my Miyoo even with the bare bone OS
Got to give them props for the amazing screen tho with pokimon or a bright colored game it looks FANTASTIC. my 2 cents.
Can it play every Ps1 game?
Powkiddy rgb 20s better than 35xx what are you thinking ?
And is still rated one of the best retro gaming handheld for PS1 down
It works well, and you can toss it into your bag or into your pocket with your keys and not have to worry if it gets scuffed up or something happens to it because it's cheap.
Great critique lad. Anbernic again, ALMOST, hits it out of the park. This unit almost feels like a Powkiddy handheld.
Hey! My console just doesnt wanna turn on anymore. And when it does it den software or something like that.
Tired of emulating on phones that just aren't very nice to hold
what do you think of it?
@@sawsauce I think its really good, but I do still need to do the upgraded OS on it to unlock more features. What you get for $80 is honestly pretty freakin incredible.
I'm torn between this and the rg350 which would you recommend please?
Wouldn't the 280v be a direct competitor for the miyoo?
i think reviewers over/misuse words or phrases at times. "underpowered" is one of them. everything is relative. this would be underpowered if it costs more. or if Anbernic stated that it could emulate DC & GC. or if every other device on the market could emulate those systems. its not underpowered. its a handheld designed to play PS1 and earlier.
What's the best one, handheld for retro gaming, at any price?
Can the 35xx charge with a USB-C to USB-C cord, or does it require a USB-A to USB-C cord?
This or pay slightly more and get a rg353vs?
Which one do you recommend? Want to buy one and want to buy the right one and not waste money in the search 🙈
Thanks in advance
It's clear you're VERY biased against them. You jab at them alot during this video for no reason, idk if you have something against them, but that shouldn't bleed into your videos. Turns me off of the video very fast.
I reckon he's been paid by miyoo to down play how good the rg35xx is 💯🤑🤑🤑
Wow great handheld for the Gameboy world
Is it possible to trade on these systems? For example, when playing Pokemon you have to trade Kadabra to get Alakazam. Is this possible on these handhelds?
I don’t have a pc but I want to get into n64 handheld gaming. What console would you recommend for 99% mainly 64 gaming and not having the ability to use a pc to download roms?
Preferably around 150$ range
Definitely the Retroid Pocket 3+ !
Does it come with games or do u have to buy them
Wait so does it come with games already preinstalled like pokemon? And if so can you name the pokemon titles
Guy likes to bash new releases from Anbernic. More models = better for us, more options and price range. Size is perfect, screen is nice, performance is adequate for it's price. Buttons from Anbernic are great and with the new GarlicOS the device is now truly shining.
Does this device let you put in cheat codes for games
Thanks for watching!
Will it save game progress?
I want to buy this for my nephew but his parents don't let him play a lot of games. Is it easy to delete games that his parents don't want him to play?
Yes, remove them from the SD Card
Hey. What would you reccomend as the best preloaded handheld. Only looking for devices with a good game lilrary already preloaded. Thanks.
The rg35xx is the nuts & only $55 with thousands of games
The sd cards that come with these handhelds are awful and will die over a short period of time. Even if you dont want to download roms you need to clone the sd card to a sandisk or some other reputable brand. Just buying these with 0 tinkering is not a good long term plan
So the big question is this: As a newcomer to emulator handhelds that doesn't want to break the bank, is this worth grabbing, or waiting for the miyoo mini to come back in stock?
Just get this one
Bloody brilliant and importantly, honest critique. You do like your clear/crystal handheld cases don't ya! Definitely a pass personally but it might actually be my number 2 for gift giving - right behind the Miyoo Mini.
How does the purple look irl? I’ve heard it’s pretty faint.
Thought about getting the Miyoo Mini. Looks nice. But looking at a size comparison to the powkiddy V90 that I have that would be too small for me. So I might get the RG35xx since its bigger.
There’s a new Miyoo Mini Plus now replacing the regular mini, check it out if you haven’t yet!
The price is actually $68 as they are charging shipping to the US now for some devices.
How long is the battery life? 2-4 hours or 5?
0:50 I believe thats the RG351V not the RG353V
I like combination of the size and simplicity (no analog sticks), don't need another Miyoo Mini, too small for me. OG OS is garbage, hope GarlicOS will save this console like Onion did for Miyoo.
What consoles come pre loaded?and roughly how many games?
which vertical handheld do you recommend then?
the 4:3 aspect ratio looking good for gameboy advance games? aren't they natively 3:2
Probably meant the screen quality looks really good despite the different aspect ratio. The first gba wasn't even backlit and very low resolution.
It’s mentioned that it comes preloaded… can anyone tell me if it’s got Pokémon preloaded?
I actually just got mine recently and have been having a blast with it. the stock OS is fine like mentioned, very simple, but i will be upgrading it to Garlic OS. It came with a lot more games than i had expected and the screen quality is awesome.
Just received mine, a lot of my games are in black and white. Is that normal?
Is it the size of a gameboy?
Do the Pokémon games on GB & GBA come with this as standard?
Does it have a sleep mode or any way I can pause?
It's only like 1/2 " longer than the Miyoo Mini Plus...
Idk man I own alot of handheld and so far this one has been my favorite for gba in particular. Something just feels right about it. Maybe it's the closest thing to a real Gameboy idk
Can it save games that u have played?
are you able to download your own emulator games on this device off the web?
0:22 you have a grudge or something?
Question: Is disc swapping on ps1 an option with the built in software? Like for example in FFVIII, can i change discs when needed?
Thanks Jonah!
Can you load game shark codes for the Pokémon games
I been trying to play dragon ball z legacy of goku and it keeps telling me game won’t play on this hardware how can I fix this
I got mine a few days ago and I haven’t been using the new OS yet, I’m getting a feel for the Original and tbh right out of the box it’s decent, I’ve been playing my favorite childhood games metroid fusion and Pokémon ruby edition .
Just sniped the Ambernic on Amazon, not exactly for $50, but I'm excited
Does it come with games on jt
