Anbernic have been releasing a whole lot of new handhelds recently, many of which are a part of their RG35XX line of systems which all feature very similar specs but in different form factors. While the RG35XX SP and the RG35XX Plus are potentially more attractive for playing specific systems, the RG35XX H aims to be more of a versatile all-in-one device, but does it succeed in its mission?

I just bought one Friday and it'll get here tomorrow. I'm excited.
I love my RG35XX H, it's the one, out of dozens of handhelds I have, that I take with me when travelling. Though a good reason not to buy it might be that Anbernic is just about to release the RG40XX H which has the same form factor, a bigger screen and stacked shoulder buttons.
RG40XX H is actually weaker.
Can I just say you were the only reviewer that I’ve watched that reviews these devices and zooms in so we can actually see the gameplay and I appreciate that. I don’t know why these other reviewers have their cameras zoomed way out to where you can hardly see anything.
The RG35xx winner for me. Over the many handhelds I have, the H is still my go to for it's power level. The RG35XX H and my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro are the two daily drivers.

Its my first anbernic system and I just got mine in the mail. Updated the os and changed the theme. The Naomi games run well too. Comes with a good selection of games. The Dreamcast runs well as you said. Very good portable retro handheld.

I bought a few of these on aliexpress it's around $50 there. Neat handheld for ps1 and below, looking forward to rg40xxh

Does it heat just like RG40XX?
Howdy hey! I'm interested in buying one myself and absolutely LOVE the video you made here, but you did accidentally have one key flaw with your handheld. The operating system that it comes with out of the box needs to be manually updated to the latest version in order to fix the game rooms problem and stuff like that. Besides that though, wonderful video you made here and I would love to see more out of your channel! I'm subscribing 😁👍

I’ve been playing a bunch of PSP games and have no issues. As long as you use the right settings you’ll be fine. I’ve actually just got into Monster Hunter the 3rd English Port HD textures and it runs extremely well. I found a video that helped with the settings and I have no lag or stutters.

Sadly seen a few (including the one I got my partner this last week) with screen issues where the ribbons are damaged causing lines across the screen.
I purchased one of these for my son and I'm having issues with it not wanting to turn on. It just stays in the Anbernic loading screen. Anyone else have this issue?
I had a very different issue with my rg35xxh (battery, charging issue, mine's dead).
Have you tried flashing the stock OS (use Rufus on Windows or Balena Etcher on MacOS) to a quality 64GB micro SD card (like Sandisk, you don't need their fastest card), to rule out the issue being the included cheap SD card?
If you haven't already downloaded stock OS from the Anbernic website, you'll need to email them for the link. (You can thank understandable recent criticism about including some PC ports of certain current popular indie games for making this step harder. ).
Also, sometimes the boot just takes longer when the first time or other changes. How long did you wait, looking at that boot (that said, don't be too patient waiting, do not run the battery out or overheat it). If you gave it five minutes, you probably gave it long enough, but some games, especially pc ports might require waiting up to 30 minutes to load, I've read.
Even using sleep or resume features, it generally takes less than a minute though.
Also, I've noticed slow down on SD cards if filled more than 75% of capacity (storage in general across pc s devices). Don't overload with too many games.
sounds like it could be an issue with the SD card or OS, try using a new card (Samsung or Sandisk are good)

The h is great for the on the go factor. I have beaten super Mario world on this as well as snatcher and mario 64 ds. Psp seemed like a bad idea but I've been playing peace walker and it's running pretty great. Im considering custom firmware but no option is convenient even ehen it cones to updating the stockl operating system.
Definitely buy this one even if you have a steam deck because its simply powerful abd pocketable. I've been waiting for something this capable and ergonomic to hit the market for years; the other really neat looking handhelds before this were eith overpriced or extremely underpowered. This is going to push things forward from here and we should expect some great handheld emulation hardware as well as software. Get ready with your cash because the golden era is almost here.
I bought a Anbernic rg35xxH and in three days it started rapid discharge and would not charge. The Anbernic charging horror stories aren't exclusive to the 35xxH either. Gambling on getting e-waste that can catch on fire leaves nothing underrated.

Some reviewers might mention they haven't experienced defects with their Asus RoG Ally or dealt with Asus repair, but you might have noticed, they take a different approach than yours in response.
To that end, if you watch Retro Game Corps recent RG40xxH video, he actually brought up reports regarding battery and charging for some Anbernic devices.
Do you also go into threads about bugs in games to share that you aren't experiencing them?
@@washuai how did you charged it? The fastchargers are damaging these Anbernic devices. (Sorry about my comment, i just wonderd, im in a muos community on discord and not heard about regular battery and charging issues) Wher did you bought it?
@@sovifraktal1207 I knew in advance not to use fast charger. I used A to C cable with USB A port chargers. Mostly an Anker, definitely 5V. One time I used the laptop USB A port, not even extended time nor hot. My mouse dongle is in the USB 2.0 port, so I did not use the eldest tech port. That didn't coincide with the issue though. Something just faulty, whether the battery, port and/or in between.
Even 1A 5V bricks can get hot, so who knows.
I have one of these, and the sticks give it an edge over the others but I get cramp in my right hand when I use it. This doesn't happen with the 35XX SP.

Playing Valkyria Chronicles 2 & 3 and Monster Hunter on it. A modded PSP is very expensive where i am from.
I got this over the sp because of the analog sticks and if I take my retroid pocket 4 pro out side and break it I would be hurt this goes with me when the wife has to run in "real quick" . Pays what I need it to mostly gba and ps1

I just got one... paid 33 bucks on a special from ali express but I'm going end up giving it to my nephews the screen is just too small and its just too cramped for bigger hands. Heck wish I bought a few more... for the price its killer and I had a great time playing some classic consoles and arcade games.
I have three devices with this chipset and between them I prefer the regular 35XX+. The shoulder button switches on the H are repulsive and the directional snapping on the analog sticks is so bad it makes them kinda pointless.

I don’t think it’s underrated though, the latest CFW seems to be focused on that chipset and it all started when this one released. Hated the clicky shoulder and there was no good CFW at the time so stuck with my MM+, no regerts

I picked this up over the Trimui SmartPro. Overtime that unit overheats. If I want to game on a TV I can because of the mini hdmi port.
Sorry, which one overheats? Trimui or rg35xx h? Are you using stock OS or some cfw?
@@valvomo1540 the trimui has heating issues, I would say "overheat" isn't the right word because it never shuts down due to the heat, it's just that it dissipates heat through the backplate so it can get uncomfortable to hold over time

Trimui unit. The chip inside and battery does overheat. The screen also will burn images on it leaving a white spot on the screen.

This decice will be better if it has 6 face button layout, a better chipset and a higher resolution.
I bought last aliexpress discount. I was a miyoo mini plus user.
wish it didn't have those analog sticks. proper horizontal gba machine would have been great.
I would say the TrimUI Smart Pro is the best handheld under $70.
and if you wait enough, it's roughly the same price as RG35XXH. I think that should be the product reviewers should suggest, instead of the RG35XXH.

I disagree only because I think 4 x 3 screens are just so much better than 16 x 9 screens for these retro handhelds.
It sucks, why would anyone would want a widescreen to emulate 4:3 systems?
Instead of getting a trimui y rather stick with the ps vita or even original psp.
The charm of these retro handheld is the form factor and aspect ratio.

underrated is a hot take lol. people are eating them up. hey he got me to click and comment though. if anbernic had made the 40xx just a liiiiiiittle more pocketable with a couple mm off the sides and bottom chin they would have gotten me to buy two devices. would want the sp as well but i've been holding on for the miyoo flip since it was announced. although im almost positive the flip will have its issues so ill be waiting a little while to see those get fleshed out lol

Plenty of PSP games run perfectly well on my RG35XX H actually.
Had to save up to buy 351m then a few weeks later they released more powerful consoles. I'll wait once they have something that can run PS3 games. 😭

Was going to say this. While high quality, this video is months late, there are already video reviews of the upcoming 40xx. It cannot take this long to get out a review of an emulator with this (by this point) well known chipset.
Got mine a week ago for 45 USD. While the form factor is great and Knulli makes the experience better, I definetely prefer my Miyoo Mini+ for its more portable size, the superior Onion OS and, most of all, the amazing screen. The screen in the RG35XXH is very washed out and low quality.
Can Onion OS run portmaster ports like Half Life 2, Shredder's Revenge and Portal? Asking because I'm thinking of getting the Miyoo Flip which could potentially replace my RG35XXH if it can run those games since I prefer clamshells. I have the RG35XXSP but lack of analog sticks really limits it.
Important note: the OS Micro SD card can only be 64gb max. No limit on the second card.
If your OS card arrives unbranded, purchase a new card from a reputable manufacturer. unbranded Micro SD cards have very high failure rates.
Nah. Miyoo Mini is still the best. Firmware is clunky, cfw are not really there yet, pretty much all are early beta versions. I'd say get rg353ps if you want up to dreamcast and install arkos/jelos and you will be all set.

Gamecube isn't the only console out there. It may not fit your needs, but it's still a solid device for those who are looking for someone for N64/Dreamcast and below or who are just getting into the space. There are enough devices that can play GCN that you should turn your focus to

@Pooiloui Not everyone wants to use their phone as a gaming device or buy an old phone just to play those games. Some people just want a dedicated device that plays the older stuff without all the florishes of a modern phone.
