All I ever dreamed about was being able to restore and own a 1957 2 door hard top Bel Air. She is my dream car and I would love to restore her on my own.
The gold v was on Belair models with v8..the silver v was on 210 models with v8…. Both 265, and 283 engines were available in 1957.. some early 1957 265 engines (not all) were painted yellow where all 283s were orange. In early production they did this as to not confuse engines..
My aunt had this 283, 2 bbl in a 60 belair. Sludgy oil with this. We threw in a quart of kerosene an ran it for 10 minutes. Really helped clean out the sludge and then we replaced the valve cover gaskets. We put havoline in it. No more sludging problems. Penzoil was bad to sludge also
Great car my grandfather was a car nut his 1967 911 Porsche is in the Stuttgart museum they said it was the finest Porsche from 1967 they had ever seen
Another interesting video Pete! I like you don't do the complete restoration but just get it up and running and safe to drive and leave the next buyer a little bit to do to give his personal touch to it! Your price seems to be in the ballpark to me!
My 57 4dr hardtop was the same color combination including interior was silver and black. It had a 55 265 V-8 and Powerglide with power steering but no power brakes.
My brother and I shared a twin in color but a 4 dr HT. Power pack. Powerglide. Drove to schoPower glide. Looked real nice with all windows down. Another "wish I kept it"
I grew up with these cars and am about the same age as Joe. We had a 56 Chevrolet 150 six cylinder three speed that my grandfather purchased from the original owner back in 1961. In 1968 my grandfather gave the car to my dad for us kids to drive (actually I claimed it). The car was original and smoked like a freight train. My father and I took the engine to the point where it was not completely remanufactured but all the excessive wear parts in the engine were replaced (basically bored with new pistons a good valve job and of course the crankshaft turned , and the usual bearings and such). I drove the car for a couple of years and after high school used it to commute from Jacksonville Fl to Tampa Fl on the weekends as I went to school down in Tampa. I75 was a four lane divided highway and was concrete during that time the speed limit was 70mph. The car was reliable and economical but a young man with a lead foot really taxed that six cylinder. Later on I acquired a .060 over 283 from a friend of mine and the car had an easier time out on the highway (FHP and I would become acquaintances from time to time). These automobiles the tri-five Chevrolets and they were really good cars, and they were simple to maintain. Incidentally Ford outsold Chevrolet for the 1957 model year, and the tri-five Fords were real good cars as well. Certainly hope you find a good home for this car.🥸👍👍👍👍👍👍
My cousin had a 57 it was a 283 car he bought it off a guy out west no rust drove it in high school on nice days in i think 87 he got rear ender on 65 north in Emsworth coming home from a concert in Pittsburgh totaled her thats a nice vehicle there!.
Joe should’ve left the valve covers off when he first started it to see if oil was getting up through the push rods with all that sludge he dug out . I had 4 57s in the 60s and I always thought they were the prettiest Chevy ever made and when you took it for a test ride you didn’t hear that fan belt squealing? Great video 👍
All I hear is some lifters noise. It really cleaned up well. Great video. Can’t understand why they painted the underside with Chevy engine orange. Thank you for sharing! 💯👊👍💕
It was my understanding that the Gold Trim was a package deal which gave you the gold grille, gold Chevrolet Script, Gold V's and gold cufflinks on the fenders. Was only available on V8 Bel Airs. You could actually still opt for the 265 V8 in 1957. However it only came with a 2 barrel, single exhaust and teamed with either a 3-speed manual or a Powerglide. The engine was painted YELLOW or what some aficionado's dub "Chartreuse".
Yo Hi Iron City 😎. from the D Mi 😁 hey thanks for sharing your time and video of a pretty nice 57 Chevy 🤩 and.great job on getting it running & driving 👍🔥💖
Excellent video. I have a 49 chevy truck. 53 gmc 235 truck. 54 chevy 5 window 235 truck. And a 63 jeep wagoner with no motor. Im lookin to trade for a model A or 32 real john Ford steel flathead highboy!
I had to stop watching when you were gunning and racing that engine. I always thought that you are supposed to let an old engine that has not been run in a long time have a chance to warm up and seal all those things you said wete all loose. Give the valves and push rods a chance to loosen up' Also keeping the valve covers off and cranking without plugs gives you a chance to see that the push rods are turning and all valves are operating. Had there been a problem you could have bent something.JMHO
Well, it's a matter of judgement on what this 1957 Chevy Belair 2 door Sports Coupe is worth giving it's current condition. Sadly, the 265 V-8 was a low horsepower engine compared to the 283. Also rot damage underneath the car will need costly replacement metal repairs. Yes, it's drivable. But, realistically it really needs more work and money thrown into it to be a safe and reliable daily driver type car. At $27,000.00 plus sales tax that seems a bit pricey. But then, you don't know how much was paid for the vehicle, the registration/ title fees, cost in labor, parts, and extras etc? So, its up to the buyer on what he feels the car is worth.
@@That_AMC_Guy sorry I didn’t remember it that way, I I do remember it on my 55 and 56 Pontiac but I didn’t remember that all my Chevys, 51 thru 57 were powerglides

It's very relaxing watching Joe turn wrenches. He's so calm and methodical it's a nice to watch

You can use lead weights to stick on to wrap around the post to add lead where the end is bad
They do make a cup like part to go on top post battery when the are worn out I have used them many of time they work great

My thoughts exactly
Gold V was my on Bel Air Silver V was on 210 and 150 model. All V8’s in 1957 were the 283. 6 cylinder cars did not have any V

@@That_AMC_Guy gold trim was for bel air, no matter engine size. just like my 235 57 bel air has the gold bits but with no V.
Also, the offset valve cover screws are another indication of a 265.
Pennzoil is 1 with paravin not quaker state

Yes , they did make little lead split cups that fit over worn battery terminals. I sold them at Pep Boys fifty years ago. Yup, I’m old.
They still sell them at O’reilly’s
I used to goto local pEP boys and get tubes tires. Bike parts for. 50cents
This old '57 is unmolested and appears to be in very good condition.
they do make a sleeve to go over worn out battery terminals, i bought some a few months ago, at napa..
Shes a daily driver nice job guys putting her together a true survivor 25,000.00 sounds fair
Doing it right
Nice car Pete, very nice. I was very close to your value and price!
good show thanks.I do think the price is way 2 high😎👍
I would look for an external oil filter to bolt to that engine and flush it multiple times . Funny how an oil filter was an option then.

I noticed that your reverse was all the way down, I don’t recall that being in any of my chevys now pontiac was a different story
Powerglide and Hydramatic both had reverse all the way down until '63 or '64. P N D L R was the quadrant for the Powerglide.
