    Absolutely love this machine. So easy to use once everything is dialed in. Extra tip. Get a remote controlled plug in that you can controls from your phone or can set up a time. When I come down before I need to go to work it’s hot and ready to use.

    Glad to see you back Gale! :) That's a interesting timing for this video as I just bought that model though with flat non-giotto panels, to gift it to my mom and she received it last week. While my R58 have a few extra things, I wish I had that integrated timer but anyway I use the one on the Acaia scale, and my mom wouldn't use such thing so that integrated timer is perfect for her needs. Not being able to adjust separately the steam boiler's pressure is no big deal and having a pricier rotary pump is a bit overkill if u don't plan to plumb it I guess.
    So yea if my mom got to make really good cappuccino within only 2 days from me teaching her everything about it, then anyone can use it easily as long as everything is dialed in and controlled. Good water with the rocket softening bag, fresh coffee, using a leveler before tamping, baristapro basket and ims shower... Yet the coffee at first would still be between failed to meh at best when we were grinding in the crappy integrated grinder of the "Breville Oracle" before then transferring the grounds once weighted to perfect quantity.
    That was just a few days before receiving the new grinder (Settle 270Wi) which was a game changer and got us to exploit 100% of the potential of the Rocket machine. It said to start off with a grind size of "9E" and it happen to be just perfect and the weight dosing is magic, removes again the need of an extra step for her and to spend 300$ on a scale like I did. It's ultra noisy but grinds very fast at least, best non-flat burr grinder IMO until you get 2x the price with something like my "Rocket Fausto" yet still not have any weight grinding that is way better, even if much more expensive -_-
    QUESTION: I've read on many place that you should backflush at home without detergent once a week, and only use detergent every 2 or 3 months depending if you do 1 or 2 cups a day so that is very different than using detergent every weeks or every 7 shots?? O_o Thanks in advance for clarifying.

  • @victorialee5637

    Thanks for your video. I was wondering which espresso maker is all metal inside. Many fully automated machines the brewing units are made out of plastic. I am interested in getting all parts made of stainless steal only. Any suggestions?

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants 4 года назад

      There's always some tubes made of silicone and rubber gaskets etc. But most espresso machines like this will have copper boilers, some more modern ones might have smaller stainless steel boilers I believe Brevilles are like that.

    Backflush once a week with a cleaning tablet? That seems like overkill no?

    • @Cypeq
      @Cypeq 4 года назад +1

      with a coffee machine that's north of 2000$ maybe you should keep it cleaned as advised unless you plan to buy a new one within 2 years.

    • @PanzerIV88
      @PanzerIV88 4 года назад +1

      Exactly I don't get it cause on most places I've read you had to back flush WITHOUT detergent, once a week, then only with detergent after 2-3 months but then again, it is definitely not the same timing for a coffee shop and someone at home who only does 1 or 2 espresso a day.
      For myself I just do 1 per day so using detergent every 7 shots clearly is major overkill and would ruin the lever's gasket and the nanotech coating of the IMS shower I use for sure :/

    Hi! , I had a bad experience with a dual boiler that had copper boilers and it gave a “metallic” taste to the water, especially in the hot water dispenser. Is the water dispenser from the rocket providing good tasting water for Americanos?

    • @PanzerIV88
      @PanzerIV88 4 года назад +1

      Umm pretty sure copper vs Stainless Steel boilers have nothingto do with the taste of espresso, and even less for an americano. It could had been many other reasons causing ur bad taste, the list is long but boilers material is last thing I'd suspect. Copper is even better at eliminating bacteria naturally. My Rocket R58 use copper and I never had such a good taste anywhere else.

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants 4 года назад

      I think that's normal with a NEW machine, after a while the water out of it should have a more neutral taste. But yeah with a new machine you're probably drinking some copper or something for a little while! :O

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants 4 года назад +1

      @@PanzerIV88 Based on my experience with a new stainless steel kettle, the water out of that has less or no metallic taste vs out of my new copper boiler espresso machine, granted there's more parts and stuff the water has to go through to get through the machine, but it definitely has a weird chemical / metallic taste at first, I think it goes away after some usage though. I'll give it another taste now that it's had about 3 weeks use.

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants 4 года назад

      Out of the water dispenser I still noticed a strange taste, I think it's because I never really use it, but out of the group head the water definitely tastes more neutral. I still have a little bit of that taste but not nearly as much.

    • @PanzerIV88
      @PanzerIV88 4 года назад

      @@BensCoffeeRants To be honest I've never noticed after 1 year of daily use on my R58, any metal taste and imo the quality of the water must make a far bigger difference. I use the "Rocket Water Softener" pouch but also the "BWT Pitcher" which is really awesome even for drinking water off the fridge. No idea if the whole thing about adding magnesium makes a difference but I can say it's really good.

    Bonus tip: Instead of relying on shot volume like a measuring cup method it's best to use a weight scale so you're not thrown off by crema or lack of crema which can vary in volume depending on type and freshness of coffee. A small scale with accurate and quick response is necessary, doesn't have to be a fancy / expensive coffee scale, although some of those also come with shot timers which may be helpful to some. A scale that has a 0.1g reading is a good idea, so like it will tell you 18.6g instead of rounding up to 19g. Also good idea to weight your dry coffee so you get an idea of what you like and what works with different coffees, 18g dry coffee 36g liquid in cup is a common starting point.
