    I use an electric pressure cooker for my grain spawn. It's like an instapot but a different brand. I have never had an issue with contam. The only downside is that because of the size I can only do batches of 3 x 16oz. jars. I just set it on high (whatever temp that is) for 45 min. Works every time.

    • @OneEarthMushrooms
      @OneEarthMushrooms  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, it's kind of a bummer to only be able to do small batches. But, if you're not trying to grow much it gets the job done!

  • @fungdark8270
    @fungdark8270 2 года назад +4

    At least one study has shown that the instant pot capable of ~11 psi was able to inactivate some bacteria that I can’t recall that is used to test autoclaves for medical use.
    90 minutes did the trick for a glass ampoule suspended in the cookers water, so perhaps a bit longer may be necessary for larger grains but it has been scientifically proven capable of serious sterilization

      I used a Instant Pot for my first few jars and at least for me, it was not working great at all. Some jars made it, sure, but I lost a lot of jars to contam, in many cases it was green mold that was clearly coming OUT of grains where it had not been killed properly during the PC.
      Besides that, I just would get SO frustrated about what I couldn't fit in the Instant Pot. Niether of those is a problem anymore since getting a proper canner with a pressure gauge.

    • @fungdark8270
      @fungdark8270 2 года назад

      The problem with dry air is that it doesn’t hold as much heat.
      Also saps moisture out
      It won’t penetrate the spawn as effectively as steam but should work to some degree if it doesn’t dry out
