    Ok, I'm a bit aged. I remember when Elton hit the charts. It really blew people's minds. The song writing and musical arrangement was timeless. Still cool today probably around 50 years later.

    Interesting observation about Elton entering another world on the album cover. There are some surreal elements to this album, I think it allowed Elton to shake his creativity loose and really show us a glimpse into his genius. Wonderful song, wonderful album, such a great great artist. Nice reaction Anton!

    Something of Elton John’s treasures the you could check out is Where to Now St. Peter? It was less commercial but brilliant!

    I may have mentioned this before -- I'm a HUGE Elton John fan. I've seen him live 5 times over the last 30+ years, one of those was his Face To Face tour with Billy Joel (the best one)!. Thank you Anton for another great reaction 😊.

    So, I am going to recommend that you watch Sara Bareilles "Good-bye Yellow Brick Road". Even Sir Elton thought it was great. He said she made it her own. He then covered one of her own songs in return "Gravity". I love both versions but I swear that her version, on RUclips...in black and white...raises goosebumps and takes me somewhere inside myself. His is the original story and has a different perspective that I feel.

    Bernie Taupin must have been going through something like a breakup writing these lyrics. Him stepping into the painting does tie into the songs. It's almost the definition of a concept album lol!

      @robdaviesprogm Год назад +4

      Taupin was still happily married when he wrote "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". Though the lyrics definitely talk about a break-up, Bernie was actually writing about fame as a sort of "mistress" and how it's not all it's cracked up to be. He missed the simpler, less glamorous life he grew up with, and longed to return to it ("I should have stayed on the farm"). And Bernie *has*, in fact, returned to that simpler life, albeit with many more millions to his name than he had in Lincolnshire all those years ago. He now lives in the US on a large ranch he owns.
      If you want his break-up album, see his second double album, 1976's Blue Moves. He was divorcing his wife of five years at the time (who he'd written "Tiny Dancer" for), and his grief saturates just about every lyric on the record.

      @@robdaviesprogm Of course that makes sense, especially with the words 'where the dogs of society howl'. Good for him having what he really wanted again! Some lyrics I'm reminded of 'some things you shouldn't get too good at like smiling, crying and celebrity'. Being famous is definitely not all it's cracked up to be.
      Thank you for the rec on Blue Moves. I've heard a lot of good things about that one! I know a couple of the songs from it and you're right about the lyrics.

      @@lauraallen55 Blue Moves is a vastly underrated album. There is a staggering amount of musical diversity on it, much like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, but it also brilliantly showcases the seven-piece band Elton had at the time. Also, Elton's vocal range on that record was at its height.

    People always forget that Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics..... This song was from his point of view. Elton was the "star"...... The front man. And he was a wild man. The World he created around him became a bit much for Bernie....... and this song reflects that.

    Hey man HARDY has some great new music out when you get a chance. He’s been getting more and more into rock and “the mockingbird and the crow” is an awesome one explaining that transition. The guy poured his heart into this song

    I think you're missing a piece. Back then you had to listen to the albums in whole, and in order to get the theme, progression, and intent. While one song alone may not be that moving or impressive, in whole with the album it can have a whole different vibe, and weight.

    Angelina Jordan does an amazing cover, its a must listen. She is absolutely a hidden gem that surprisingly more people never heard of maybe because she is only 16yo but truly beyond her years
