This sounds like a "best of both worlds" 50/50 mix of upright bass and bass guitar. It has much of the "soul" and "vibe" of an upright, but most of the articulation and tightness of a guitar. If I were blind-listening, I might've had a hard time telling which I was hearing given the mixed signals of each it gives off! It'd strike me as either an amazingly "tonal" upright, or an amazingly "percussive" guitar. God I -LOVE- the sound of this bass!!!! Great playing and backing track too! I love this kind of Jazz!!
Well said !. I have had it since 2009 and widely used it in Jazz and Latin Jazz recordings and live, especially live is a perfect solution to have double bass sound with less hassle to drag around... :-)

@@richardduiventil I'm part of the group that says that to be called jazz, it has to have improvisation (and I value that a lot), and for sure, not necessarily swing. Again, is there something saying that this is jazz? Even if it was written, he is playing a walking bass line, which is a typical (at least frequent) role from the bass when playing jazz but I wouldn't say that is jazz just because it has a walking bass (could be in part if the line is improvised). I really value improvisation but not necessarily only in what people generally call jazz. I like the ability to mix languages (which is very hard to do with good taste). In the end, it doesn't matter if is jazz or not. Back to your argument: Your comment is absolutely unnecessary. The title says "Donna Lee walking...". Do you know what that is? Oh well... This a waste of time.

yeah truly excellent playing. sadly this sort playing adds nothing but beat to the music, each note and each strong of notes is essentially meaningless. what a waste of excellent talent.

I can also hear the bass very clearly in the mix, would not change a thing about it. Perhaps some listen from cheap headphones and expect wonders

I tried one of those basses a number of years ago. Beautiful crafted, but I found it very uncomfortable to play because of the very wide body.
