Now that the main frame is complete, we move to the traction frame, moldboard mount, hydraulics and controls. By the end we have a fully operable grader!

I recently found your page, and am following your Dozer build. I was an operator on both the rigid frame Model 1200 moto grader and and D-9 Cat dozer.

Incredible build by an obvious very intelligent and ingenious gentleman. I first subbed his channel when I stumbled across it while watching a Dirt Perfect video. That one was vid #10 of his Cub Cadet bulldozer build that now I gotta go back and watch it from episode #1. He's right up there with Mustie, Watch Wes Work, Iron Trap Garage, and several other related channels I'm subbed to. Mustie1's channel was the first related channel I subbed to and RUclips seems to have me pegged as to what I'll be interested in. Makes me jelouse I now live in an apartment instead of a 3 bedroom house with a garage and an enclosed back patio shop due to health issues. Now I live thru these guys.
Thinking about it, John Deere and the other yard tractor manufacturers should seriously consider building their versions of this awesome machine for landscaping companies, construction equipment operators who get jobs with limited room builds. It's fit right in with mini excavator jobs like bike paths, between buildings access driveways and others where full size ones won't fit. As far as I know there isn't any available at this time.
Great job, I'm green with envy, just got me thinking of building my own grader. We live on a farm with a ROUGH road and there is basically 2 or 3 of us that try to maintain the road. My brother in law has a Kubota mini tlb and a Yanmar mini digger. This might be a good addition to his fleet as he does a fair amount of work. Thanks again for an inspiring video, don't sell yourself too short.
Very nice job waith all the fab work, So kool. Your blade controls might be easier to operate if the levers were on opisite sides so one hand can always steer or both hands on the blade. I ran and run 14G and other stuff for almost 40 years... Love the dozer by the way. ; )

Truly impressive tbh this is the first grader I’ve ever seen that doesn’t straight up terrify me into not wanting to learn your design is practical and feasible honestly probably the easiest grader on planet earth to operate
I once got into a cat grader the only one I ever had the chance to operate it had 11 joy sticks four pedals four shifters and a slew of buttons I didn’t even know where to begin lol I managed to get it started and gave up ran escavators knuckle booms loaders dozers bobcats a multitude of different brands of each countless tractors and forklifts and yeah grader is the only one that had me scratching my head
After working on graders for 35 years, I can say that the tires on the galion in the picture are on backward. If it were a an allwheel drive machine, it would be correct. I think that you did a very nice job on your grader.

I am not retired so works days on it are infrequent now that our busy season is here. Hydraulic hoses for mine were painful to the wallet as well. I had some made locally but ordered some online as well.
I considered doing something similar, but with a craftsman riding mower for starters. I did find that mowers like I wanted with hydrostatic transmissions were harder to find.
Well done sir. That is a fantastic replication of a larger grader. You managed to get the proportions dialed in perfectly. Graders are my favorite piece of equipment to operate. Do you feel like the engine has enough power? I didn't see a mention of the HP rating on it. For those who have gravel driveways to maintain, this would be a great piece of equipment. Well, 12 HP is enough for the scale of the tractor, but it isn't going to be building any highways, that's for sure. It will lose traction before it stalls the engine so more HP would just spin the tires faster! With more weight, it probably could use another 5-10 HP. But then it wouldn't be a Cub Cadet any more...
Genius, sheer genius!!!! Well done. I never would have thought about building something like that. I’ve contemplated building a dozer, excavator, and/or a loader, but not a grader. Now you’ve really got the gears spinning in my head. A quick question about your over-heating issue with the hydraulics, have you thought about using a heater core from a 1981 Olds Cutlass with a blower motor and fabricating a tunnel box to cool the fluid down faster, or even running 2 cores in series to cool the fluid down even faster? I know, more money to throw into the project, but when you think about it, it’ll keep it from over-heating and causing even higher costs in repairs. Just a thought.
I had a hydraulic oil cooler rated for 14hp that I was planning to use. I decided in the end to double up the drive belts to provide some redundancy and avoid the power loss inherent in the hydraulic drive system. It was the loss of efficiency that ultimately made the decision, not the overheating issue.
Them gallions have front wheel assist which makes them the six-wheel drive that's why they have the tires orientated like that otherwise they would be turned around backwards like that person was saying
Always add your 200 hours of labor into the cost. Your motor grader's value is around 17000 to 20000 dollars if you would sell it. I know you wouldn't because it's so cool😊👍
I've seen a Cub Cadet forklift conversion--it drove backwards, or, at least the forks were behind the rear tires and the operator seat was turned around. I'm getting things lined up to build a Cub Cadet "dozer" this coming winter.
Outstanding idea wouldnt a 27 hp kohler eng take away all the power problems you disgusted it would eliminate the need for the starter/generator and give you electric start and a whole lot more hp from the start.....

Did you see the video on the 6x4 Cub dump truck on my channel? It doesn't have the capacity of a real dump truck, but I have a FEL on my Kubota. Yes, I've seen Mike Festiva's channel. He does amazing stuff. Was actually looing at Langmire's CNC plasma table that he shows on his channel. He uses a lot of auto and four wheeler parts in his builds. He makes me look like an amateur.

The hydraulic motor was set up to drive the hydrostatic transmission, the same way the belts drive it, so I'd still have variable speed via the hydrostat. But the power losses would be significant, so not the best idea...

Re: Front tires. No need to re-rim the rubber. Simply switch the left and right tire assemblies. Done. Very nice work.

One item that would have made this build look more like a full-size grader would be a cab complete with glass windows.

It's explained in the most recent video--published last week. The hydrostatic transmission has auxiliary hydraulic ports.
7K (ish) for a grader that you can ride on, much gooder than the 15K(ish) that it cost to scratch build a 14th scale RC motor grader!

Where did you get the hydraulic pressure to run the cylinders? Great job.
Charge pump on one of the hydrostatic transmissions has auxiliary outputs. It's only 600 psi at 2 gpm, but it's plenty for that application.

Only snows occasionally here, and even then it's only an inch or two. So haven't even tried.

Grease. They don't move much, only rotate at most 90 degrees one way or the other.
Hydraulic arenot cheap, when you have to buy all your lines etc fitting
No cooling fans for the hydros?
