We got a bunch of parts for my 68 from you last summer and are almost finished assembling everything... so excited to drive her soon! The restoration project has taken 4 years so far....
My uncle in a suburb of New York City bought a new 1968 Cougar XR-7 in forest green with a tan interior. It had a 302 with Cragar five spoke, chrome rims. The most beautiful car I’ve ever seen.
The Cougar turn signal switch was really designed for the Mustang with only 2 bulbs in the rear. This why the repro signal switches burn out so easily on the Cougar 6 bulb taillight systems, going LED fixes that problem...
When you mentioned about mirror mount glare where the units became black or satin finish , the early buick Riviera had a nice chromed dash panel but drivers complained about sun reflection that bothered the eye and made Buick go to a matte finish black .
I love watching your videos. I love the attention spent on absolute detail of every aspect of these classics. I am in the market to buy a Cougar, but in the meantime, can you recommend someone who has as much knowledge as you when it comes to Thunderbirds? I have a low mileage original 65 Bird I am doing a light restore on.
Can you do a more in depth video on the dismantling of the seatbelts? I have the same ones for my 67 mustang. And tried to rebuild them rather than buy new. A d destroyed them trying to take them apart. So frustrating!!!
Actually there is... The guy who runs the Concours Mustang forum is a Cougar guy and there are guys who are WAY more knowledgeable about the Mustang than I am about the Cougar who participate there. Ever do business with Dead Nuts On? Makes WCCC look like back woods rookies...
Thanx 4 all info and moore 👍 but how do i remove the center consol (armrest) and clock/stereo cluster under the dash? We have fiddled with it alot ,but don't want break it... Kind regards Dan @ Nifsta classic cars SWEDEN
I've got a gran torino and doing a restoration on it you can't find sheet metal for these car's and I've been all over the west finding part's and for it maybe some company that does this will start making these part's.
We do occasionally sell a car when we buy one to part out, but then realize it is too good to part out. We do offer a free classic cougar classifieds at classiccougarclassifieds.com/ and you can keep an eye out on ebay, but your best bet may be over at the Classic Cougar Community forum: classiccougarcommunity.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9
Probably not. 50 year old seats are usually in need of some love, and even if the upholstery is ok, the foam is likely to be dried out. If yours are in unusually nice shape, however, it's always cool to see an all-original interior.
Your comment about 'Not quite a scam ' on the 'leather front and rear ' . There was a WW2 vet I worked with in the1980s who was very knowledgeable about Edsel,Ford and Lincoln of the late 1950s. Came up with fascinating stories, one of which was to use Ford tractor valves in Edsel motors for reliable miles. He also had some scathing words about the years Robert McNamara was running Ford. He stated that the people Mac hired and promoted in the late 1950s were exactly the clowns who came up with ideas that were not quite a scam. By the late 1970s and later,Ford did not seem to know the difference between customer as cash cow and customer as victim. Again and again I would meet people purchasing a new Ford product only to say about 2 years later, " next time it sure won't be a Ford" . Enraging new car owners is not a way to brand loyalty. Or long term car and truck sales. The senior decision makers of Ford were very good at divide and conquer with labour squabbles and similar, but they sure dropped the ball for many weary years when it came to building a product that included customer satisfaction. Certain modern stuff is wonderful, but you sure have to do lots of homework to know which is which. Cheers.
Great! What do you think the timing is on the correct wood grain vinyl overlays? I have some in really good unfaded shape and was going to see if one of my local car wrap shops could reproduce them before i install and let the sun start its work on fading these.
Oh man, the reproduction seat covers are so wrong. See how much extra padding is in the upper-middle seat backs in the originals? They look very luxurious and the new ones look skimpy. When I was looking to have my front seats upholstered, no one would do them like the factory seats, only like your seat covers.

It was an era that normal people could buy V8 cars with a luxury build. Today it costs more than $200000.
Love the videos.
Love the site.
When you hear the phrase "....I know a guy...."
....he is one of those guys!
Looking sharp, I miss my 67
Thank you West Coast Cougars for this and your other excellent videos! Great upgrade tips!
Switching all incandescents to led really does help lower the amp draw overall on an old car. Excellent for older wiring

Thank you for the info, I can't think of anyone more knowledgeable on these cars.
Looks good. I wouldn't change the rear seat either in such good shape
When you mentioned about mirror mount glare where the units became black or satin finish , the early buick Riviera had a nice chromed dash panel but drivers complained about sun reflection that bothered the eye and made Buick go to a matte finish black .
Nice daily driver.
Thanks nice job

Get on the Thunderbird forum and it will be evident real quick who the pros are and they are in fact out there.
Can you do a more in depth video on the dismantling of the seatbelts? I have the same ones for my 67 mustang. And tried to rebuild them rather than buy new. A d destroyed them trying to take them apart. So frustrating!!!
Two way tape won’t hold water & conduct across the two metal surfaces it spans causing corrosion?
Wish you guys could do 69/70 Mustangs parts too! There is no Don Rush equivalent for the Mustang world!

Thanks for the rec!
Can you do a video on standard interior and dash
Do you have exhaust an full break line video
I like originality. To me, that's the most difficult to do. Customizing/bastardizing is easy.
Thanx 4 all info and moore 👍 but how do i remove the center consol (armrest) and clock/stereo cluster under the dash? We have fiddled with it alot ,but don't want break it...
Kind regards

Why are the accessory door sill plates no longer available?
Unfortunately not.... Scott Drake got bought by Holley Performance, and Holley decided to stop making those.

Do your repro passenger mirrors come with a FORD door template for accurate location ?
No template, but maybe this will help: ruclips.net/video/B7ae4_n4dEA/видео.html
This wasn't equipped with comfort-weave vinyl?
Just found this am I am stoked ! Do you sell cougars? have had a half dozen 67 or 68s years ago and now I want a '68 xr7 project car

Can you use mustang interior on Cougars
The front seats only. But Cougar upholstery is available so there's not much reason to use Mustang seats in a Cougar.
I don’t think much of any thing in the interiors are the same.. nope don’t believe Thay do..
I have a 68 with all original interior and I am wondering if it will devalue it if I redo the front seats?
Probably not. 50 year old seats are usually in need of some love, and even if the upholstery is ok, the foam is likely to be dried out. If yours are in unusually nice shape, however, it's always cool to see an all-original interior.
Do you have a "How to" video for reupholstering the seats?
Time to bring Enos in?
