  • Short video showing how to test to see if your ALC Relay in your air ride suspension is good. This relay is connected to the side of the fuse box under your hood. The side parallel to the wheel.
I tested this after I knew my exhaust solenoid on my Arnott compressor was good and confirmed that the compressor kicks on by jumpering pins 30 and 87 in this relay's socket.
I mention a forum in the video ( townhall-talk.e... ) This forum discussion really helped me understand more about the air ride system on my vehicle, but how they said to test the ALC relay is wrong or I just didn't understand it correctly.
Apply 12v to 86 and ground to 85 and hear the relay click. Measure resistance across pins 30 and 87 (with 12v still applied) and you should get near 0 resistance. Removing 12v, you will have an open circuit across 30 to 87. Resistance from 86 to 85 (without 12v was about 82 on my relay)

Well.... Thanks for taking the time to clarify all of this Relay " theory " --- I didn't really need this info Exactly
..but it was informative, and educational. I've been trying to remove The " Service Ride Control " message on My 2000 Yukon XL ( 5.3L ), as I now Have an Air Shock System on the Rear.....most of the Air Ride System has Been Extracted. I'm still just Checking to see if Removing a Fuse, in one of the Fuseboxes ,or a Relay....( Please Be Specific ... ) Would Turn off the " Air Ride " Message.... Forever. Any Suggestions....? Thanks in Advance.... Iv'e asked under " Comments " on other YT
Videos...but Never Got a Response.... Therefore , My Message is Still Announcing..... Daily....!!

I have found your posts very helpful in troubleshooting why my auto ride not working. Initial symptoms were compressor not turning on, so checked fuses IGN3, etc. all seem fine, We tested the ALC relay per your guidelines and all worked just fine, we even replaced it after further troubleshooting just in case we blew the relay out. Anyway, we removed wheel well flaps and manually adjusted the level sensor on the left rear wheel to activate the system. When doing so, we were sometimes able to feel a click in the relay. However, after changing out the compressor, still does not seem to work. So, in this order...shocks are ok per chevy dealership, no codes being returned on the tech 2 scanner, relay appears to work, and i have brand new compressor. Additional question? is the new compressor sooo quiet that i won't be able to hear it come on/off like the initial compressors from OEM? thanks ...

I'm not hearing anything either and I have no codes. Could have sworn I used to. did you ever resolve your issue or was it just very quiet

8 years later here but no the compressor is not quiet you can 100% hear it. I am having same issues as you currently. Did you ever solve the problem? No blown fuses. Relay is fine. Was it your ride height sensors?

Hi guy...I just did a video about this issue. Plus cross checking...
You must use 12 volt I heard yours click. Keep them attached.

so I jumpered 87-30 because I do not have the ability to put 12volts on the relay, but the compressor motor kicked right on which made me happy. So did this fix your car or not....I am searching for an ALC relay but I am not sure where the control voltage for the relay comes from

Hey Grover what did you end up figuring out on your Escalade suspension? I can hook power to the other side of my relay and compressor kicks right on!

I found out I have the burnt exhaust valve solenoid...thinking of blocking off the exhaust valve line and manually operating the compressor when needed....my truck is 10 years old and I am trying to decide whether to invest the money or not
