No proof at all of German shepherd in American Akitas
Some mastiff but don't know where it came from
The black color of America Akitas probably comes from the Sakhalin husky

it's official japanese akita preservation society's information,
i agree both came from japan, but ww2 era's akita and modern era japanese akita is bit different, during the wartime Only shepherd type dog were allowed to keep in japan,Because the shepherd type dog can be used as a military dog, that's why ww2 era's akita has more shepherd blood, american soldiers brought back this ww2 era's akita to america, this is the american akita now,
after the war, japanese akita was multiplied with purebreds many times and returned to purebreds as much as possible, this is modern era japanese akita now
both is same roots, both dogs are amazing dogs

***Correction, Helen Keller is Not the reason the Japanese Akita "migrated" to North America. After World War II, American Servicemen became fond of the dog and brought the Akita back with them hence, the North American Akita.

Where did I mention Helen Keller was the reason the Akita "migrated" to North America? The video says "she was credited with bringing the first Akita Inu to America," which she was. She brought Kamekaze-Go to America in 1937. World War II ended in 1945.
