- Desillusion magazine, supported by ANALOG and ALIEN WORKSHOP are proud to present their latest video “This is Dylan”, a video portrait that pays tribute to the stylish Californian skateboarder, Dylan Rieder.
At only 24, Dylan's name is already well engraved in the history of skateboarding, thanks to his style, his personality and his incredible gift; that of skating fast and skating well. The skateboard mag voted him as 2006's years best am award, but since then he turned pro, came out with an insane part in Mind Field, and has been blowing minds with his steezy tricks all across the world. After a rather tormented period, where he tasted the dark side of street life, and where he found himself literally catapulted to the front of the scene, Dylan got back up again, brushed himself off and with incredible maturity, imposed his own style, a style which quickly turned him into an icon for an entire generation of skateboarders.
With the extremely stylish Jason Dill for mentor, and Mark Oblow as a teacher, nothing seems to be able to resist the boy. Design, fashion, skateboarding, everything he touches seems to turn to gold, a privilege which has allowed him to stay true to himself and to his beliefs, whatever the cost, giving him the priceless freedom of being able to simply say 'no'. Interviews, huge contracts, photoshoots, Dylan takes care of every part of his career, of his image, his lifestyle, making him one of the most atypical skaters of the new generation.
Quiet, discrete, with an irresistible aura that characterizes the legends of our subculture,“This is Dylan” is a total immersion in his everyday life, a celebration of raw counter culture: when aesthetics and style become much more than just a clever marketing strategy to seduce the largest number of kids, when the sun and streets of California come together to give us their utmost best.

It’s June 2024 and the influence is stronger than ever. RIP to the most stylish person on and off the board.
I come back to this every so often. It’s special in many ways. Anyone else?
not very often but pretty repeatedly, in general I rewatch videos of him a lot, like the firechat interview, other interviews, videoparts, tributes and so on
Same
Yes
Doing that right now 🖤
Same
It’s April 2024 and I still miss
Wow this agust
@@fsoko-lo1peDylan was so special.😢
March 2023 I think about Dylan Every day of life. Such a huge impact. Never forgotten 🌹
Never.
Dylan was born for this segment
I was watching Koston's and just thinking "This was made for Dylan"
A LEGEND! RIP He will always be known as one of the most stylish ever.
the most.
B Correct.
The most
ever?
one of the best skaters ever lived
Never met Dylan. Never saw him in person. Never heard his friends talk about him in real life. But I've never been so inspired by one person in my life. I've seen this video once or twice a year since it came out, and it's in my opinion the best portrayal of Dylan on the internet. The last scene with the empty chair hits home every time. Thank you desillusion.
I met his friends before they talked about him
@@MDMnizzy sounds about right
I had quit skateboarding long before i ever heard of him. Coming from someone who knows the roots of skating he is an important part of our industry. A rebellious and individualistic person he will always be remembered.
I come back to this video every so often, its just iconic fly high Dylan
For many times i was feeling down with my ability to skate and my dreams of making a career out of it. I want to make my hobby a job, not force my job to be a hobby. Every time i feel like giving up on skating i always come to any Dylan video and how he inspired my dressing style to attitude to skate style, this man is truly something else and im so lucky to have found out about him.
I read your comment and very rarely do i feel like i can connect or relate to somebody else.. But i feel ya man. Been searching for myself for a few years now and the only constant seems to be skating, even though i still suck at it.
Hope you find your way and all is well my friend 👍
his body's gone, he's physically not here anymore, but he's still in here, mind & heart, for sure in every fucking heart this week and for ever. that strength. some real pure beauty make everybody's thinking, remembering, and thinking again. so sad but so grateful. Peace out. Love and freedom.
He was so right about what he said about Billie doing a trick down the stairs. Especially in this day and age with all these Instagram clips, I don't care if I don't like the style or something about the person. These days, I have a filter on my head, where I only watch things that I know they make me feel good. Sometimes when I feel fucking nasty, I go home and put on Trasher or the Berrics and want to watch some shit and an half hour later I feel so terrible and ask myself: "Why the fuck am I even involved in skating?" I don't wanna get depressed so I only watch very selected stuff. And you should roll how you want and wear what you want and not because something is trending. Even if people don't like it, fuck them!
That's right, the trending is a killer!
Just be yourself, do what you want to do and doesn't care about what the people say!
Thrasher not trasher poser
Bro those gunshots make me jump every time I come to this video.
Sameee, fuck those gunshots.. I immediately turn it down and just skip it, it’s annoying asf low key
I miss skating Venice in those days. Before supreme became what it is and just the old days before I went too prison and before I met everyone. Life consist of moments. You never know how precious they’re until it’s too late
This comment is too accurate.
i was watching a part of his when he passed... woke up this morning to put on the song "never tear us apart" which was stuck in my head in my sleep. found out he passed. too strange. thanks for everything Dylan. you're missed buddy.
I don't get anything negative from what Dylan said. I know what he means with being branded and what have you. Furthermore alot of kids these days don't have any style. Cookie cut jocks on skateboards If you ask me. Dylan has one of the most raw styles out. Love this dude!
thanks for making skate beatiful Dylan, rest in peace
I couldn't stop watch Dylan video he has major influences in people lives though his perspective & style.
The empty chair at the end is haunting almost as if foreshadowing his death
He was diagnosed with Leukemia for the first time in 2014. So he already knew he had it when this film was shot.
@@RollingShutter this actually originally came out in 2012 on Vimeo. But they reposted this here a couple of years later. I remember specifically rushing back home from work to watch this during that time haha. So Loweni is right about the eerie foreshadowing since cancer wasn't even a thought at that time.
I don’t skate anymore, but growing up I wanted to be like Dylan so bad. I grew my hair out once I left the army and slick it back like him as an homage, and I can’t seem to throw away the pair of Dylan Slip-Ons I have from HUF. I’ve worn them for 7 years now and they are beat to shit, but I won’t toss em.
Dylan is such a kindred spirit. our souls are on the same frequency. same hobbies, interests, tastes in music and style.
I will never let your spirit die. Cutting my hair before I go to jail and will rock the Dylan. Im not quite as pretty as Dylan but I know I can pull it off.
my first custom knife will be inspired by you and made in your honor
Are you still in jail?
crazy to see how much skating has changed since this came out, RIP to a true legend
this film was shot so well oh man this was sick
please release the unedited footage from this interview!
Rip to the most stylish skateboarder to ever live
Such chill vibes, keep coming back to this vid, and that Blake mills song is perfect for just cruise with no destination in mind. Freeing. RIP Dylan
Still find myself still watching this, so sad to see a legend die. You'll forever be in our hearts Dylan.
This video has such an eerie vibe to it
Seriously
I did windsurfing before, but was not interested in skateboarding. However, I came to be interested in skating after I knew Dylan.
It seemed that he wore a white shirt, black slip on to black jeans not so called skater fashion very very cool.
When I came to have some skateboarding ,I knew that Dylan died and was amazed. Is it a lie? Is it 28years old?
I promised to do everything hard until his minutes though it was a shock.
Dylan forever !! You were the coolest in the world. Thank you for giving a skating opportunity.
So sad. I wanted to see you skate more, Dylan.
First person I've seen make skating so stylish, he will forever be the coolest, and he never had many parts either (not as much as the people becoming pros today) but his influence style wise and all his side projects (Former, The Hunt) will live forever, which is what I find sick, he made such an impact skating and yet it's what he did outside skateboarding that will leave such a lasting impact ON TOP of his skating, he's left a legacy, in such short time, and it's so cool, RIP one of the absolute greatest
Watched this like 50 times. First time watching after he passed, this shit fucking sucks man.
i cry everytime i see the ending with that amazing song and him and dill are hitting the tetherball..
Beautiful. Rest in peace, Dylan.
The king forever
Thank you for being you Dylan Rieder R.I.P

YESSSS! God damnit I been saying that shit forever!!!! If it doesn’t look good, WHO GIVES A FUCK!!!! Man I feel like this dude was one of the only skateboarders on the planet who truly understood the essence of style and proper skating that looked amazing to watch. He knew how to really emulate that style in his skating. There will never be another Dylan reider
Back again….again. 🖤

Nice human,from brazil.
one of a kind
Hes like the James Dean of our generation, and skated hard as fuck, with a balzout mindset
