But also the opposite! Having a family member that appreciates it. As a kid I was always on my sewing machine and making things for my parents but they never really appreciated things I made so I never got better at it until I was an adult. Also no creative friends, siblings and I have no cousins. But that easily happens in a small town.So it goes both ways you see:)
Yes, Harper is so lucky to receive this dress. And I’m so grateful for the video!! It just made my day. Every second of it was so beautiful and well done. Also April’s hair looks great.
@@tamaramonster9027 This is infact true. The only reason I continue to better my sewing is because my kids (especialy my son) go bananas when I make cosplays for them. Everyone else is just blahh when I show them my work. They say its pretty but I can kinda see they get bored with me. My kids even want me to teach them how to draw, sew, tattoo everything I know how to do artistically. They get excited every single time. Make stuff for yourself look in the mirror and go crazy praising your own work! Sewing takes time and passion I'm sure every piece you make it beautiful!
I just kept smiling when I saw Harper so happy with her dress! She's a Sultana now! Don't grow up too fast my dear! 💖 Achi April will sew a lot more beautiful, iconic dresses just for you! 💖💖💖
The beat part is that this video exists so one day when she's older, she can see how much effort you put into this for her smiles. I wish I had a concept of how much my Mom put into our costumes growing up.
OMG... Harper is the beautiful Princess ever in that dress and the luckiest to have such an adoring aunt who took so much effort to make such a beautiful dress for her ❤️❤️❤️
WOW, Harper looks amazing! The gown & train are gorgeous. You really hit this one out of the park. Matching accessories - just wow. I know she will always remember this gown. Homemade & custom are the best costumes, IMO. Did she want to wear it to bed & everywhere? LOL!
But she can remember the good time she had in it, and enjoy it while it lasts, and when she grows out of it, she'll be older and maybe also like other things for that Aoril will probably create her the next spectacular outfit, she'll love. 😊
@@thinkingbout So true! I have custody of my niece. I got her when she just turned 5yrs old and she'll be 10yrs old this month. I make her dresses and as she grows older what she likes has changed. First one I made her was Else's dress, because she LOVED Frozen. Then when she grew out of that one she wasn't into Frozen anymore and she wanted Mal's dress from Disneys Descendants. I've made her 5 different ones now and she's never been sad or upset about growing out of one of them, because she gets new ones that are of whatever movie or character she's into at that time. So it's exciting for her! Kid's change their minds about stuff very often 😂.
This little princess is adorable! When she outgrows this amazing gown I know she’s gonna be sad. But just think of the next little princess who gets to wear this outfit when it’s passed down. This gown is going to give so many little princesses joy over the years. You worked your magic and you infused the world with happiness for years to come.
I remember for my 4th birthday my mother’s friend made me a princess jasmine costume. It was so beautiful. A store bought costume could never compare to the level of craftsmanship and passion. I wish the outfit for the live action existed when I was a kid. This is beautiful
Your cousin Harper is so adorable and very lucky to have you as her personal costume designer. Also, she looks like a mini version of you. Love the final result. Great Job April.
Harper is so lucky to have a wonderful and talented cousin like you. Beautiful girl. Beautiful dress and Harper appreciates it. Just imagine the joy. I hope Harper is not too sad when she outgrows it. But, she has her talented cousin, April, and future gowns I'm sure.
I revisited this video ... April's mad skills produced the most beautiful princess gown ... "PERFECTION" The little Priness is the cutest ever and she must have been "over the moon" for her lovely dress ❣
I absolutely love this dress!!! I love that you do children's clothes from time to time, gives us sewing moms, auntie's, grandmothers new ideas!!! My daughter is 9 years old with autism and doesn't watch videos more then 10 seconds, well she watched this whole video and loved it!! We sewed an made all her princess dresses, costumes and some clothes from watching your videos!! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and ideas!!!💗💗🥰
The little princess was adorable...and the dress. You did a great job and made it look simple...but all that trim had to have taken you a love and a half's worth of time to do. Such a lucky princess.
She is so adorable! A tip when you're sewing ribbon around a tight curve. Run a basting stitch along the inner curve. Once you've sewn down the outer curve, use the basting stitch to gather the inner curve in. Once you're happy with the curve, press it in place and then sew it down. It's a much neeter finish than trying to force the curve as you sew
Oh my goodness, this creation is EVERYTHING!!!! What a lucky little cousin she is to have this beautiful Princess Jasmine dress custom made for her by you! You must have spent SO much time and money on this and it shows. She looks SO happy and delighted to wear her gorgeous dress. Great job!!!
I love how you try making things from so many different cultures! The creation of this costume is so similar to that of a lot of Indian/South Asian dresses, from the trims, to the matching pants, to the golden stamping! And Harper is so cuteeee!
This was too good Most of the times when people try to recreate someone’s dress, they tend too over do it or sometimes the shape doesn’t come right But this over here was simply gorgeous
Oh my gosh what a delightful little niece to sew for and what a loving auntie you are for her. I can see that live abounds in your family. Stunningly beautiful creation.
Don't know how anyone could dislike this, it's adorable! You gave your cousin a magical pretty princess dress that has so much love put in that it makes it even more magical! Also, as a lifetime sewist, I appreciate how you acknowledge your process and method in creating your work. Thank you for sharing this beautiful work!
Why are you not an award winning costume designer on Broadway? The time, energy, effort, expense and love in this creation is beyond belief! April, I applaud you.
April you are such a treasure to your family! I literally cried when I saw Harper on the top of the stairs. Her outfit reminded me of the many items of clothing my grandmother has made for me over the years. My grandmother made me and my family outfits growing up for special holidays and occasions. My grandmothers "swan song" was my junior year prom dress. There was tons of tulle and silk and handmade applique that my grandmother, mom and I picked out at a special store in houston together. I thought she would think at one point that I would grow out of asking her to make things for me, but I am 25 and still ask for her to sew me professional clothes. The level of detail and craftmanship you have towards all of your projects is amazing. I truly admire your level of skill and both your and my grandmother's passion with sewing has allowed me to try to develop my own skills with sewing.
It's always great to have an older cousin who helps you realize your dreams. My cousin builds computers for her younger cousins that we couldn't afford to buy with all her additional upgrades. You have amazing talent and great creativity!
April you are a complete genius! I'll bet Harper was totally overwhelmed with this haute couture piece and will probably keep it safe to pass on. Absolutely divine. Love from England xxx
12:40 one tip I make quilts and I use blue painters tape to tape off the guidelines for my quilting. Blue painters tape is not as sticky as masking tape and it is easily removed. So I would recommend using that instead of masking tape. This is so gorgeous and a lot of work. I learned a lot about dealing with trim from this video on now I want to play. I love all your videos. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Happy belated birthday to Harper! it's so enriching to see her so happy. she'll remember these great moments when she grows up! you're an incredible cousin!
although i know this is a DIY, just an FYI that you can buy a lot of those similar trims and patterned fabric in that colour (vs making it) from a lot of south east asian clothing stores, and I am sure possibly some middle eastern ones as well. It may save some time too.
April! You have truly outdone yourself! This is so beautiful! Harper looks amazing in this dress! I'm not a big fan of pink, but this could change my mind about it! 💜
The dress looks exactly same in a mini version. She is looking beautiful and stunning in that gown April can you make any Indian outfits which must be in a traditional way like ready for party.
I so appreciate your notes on construction here; hearing your reasoning (especially regarding the zipper, my nemesis!) and how you pictured the project coming together really illustrates the process. Thanks as always for being so thorough!
The love for Harper is evident. No time or expense spared in this fabulous costume! Such a loving aunt ... and an adorable neice! Thank you for posting such a wonderful video -- I learned a LOT about patience, pattern drafting, trim, construction, etc.
Imagine having a family member so cool and talented that could make you pretty much any clothing piece you wanted. Iconic!
But also the opposite! Having a family member that appreciates it.
