Metal blades are designed to create air flow that moves cut grass out of the discharge shoot. It seems like that isn't possible with this design.
ever hear of mulching?
Also they are designed to provide lift/ suction so the blades can cut the grass.... this design really isn't new but he made it applicable to many machines. This wouldn't be considered mulching
@@seanflynn2289Mulching works in a similar fashion. The clippings get pulled up so they can be chopped into smaller pieces
@@seanflynn2289 Not the same thing in any manner. Mulching blades are high lift and suck the grass up. If he would cut some 8 to 10 in grass you would see big pieces plus strands of uncut grass I would bet.

On Dr walk behind bushhog mower, you can use blades or switch to string lines. String lines can work well in rocky areas and such. It be great to this option on regular mowers.
Coming from someone who has years of commercial mowing, thats gonna be such a royal pain in the ass. I see more time wasted changing weedeater line on the deck than actually mowing.
Living in New England rocks seem to grow out of the ground. I end up buying new blades pretty much every season.

Love this idea for rocky area. This could save hundreds of dollars in mower damages.
Great idea for safety. I just don’t see how it will give the grass proper lift to give it a nice clean professional cut. Standard mower blades have the “wings” on them to create a vacuum to lift the grass up to provide a nice uniform clean cut.
That’s what I was thinking the whole time. Also there’s zero chance you’re bagging any grass with this

@@BugBunny978if you don't get a lift anything longer than about 4 inches will lay down and not get cut to the proper height. Over time you'll have spots all over with enough grass laying over to start causing bald spots. Lift is such a big deal that they make different types of blades with different amounts of lift for different purposes
@@PuBearsticks This seems more geared towards land management not so much lawn care.
I see good and bad, Good: less weight on spindles, less gas consumption, more cutting opportunities on each spin, therefore better mulching of grass and cutting it up finer. Bad: will it have enough lift? Will it have a clean enough cut for commercial mowing, will the string last long enough?
I am definitely thinking about trying it on my smaller walk behind mower. This is a fanatic idea!

I am impressed. As I was buying a 3 pack of new metal blades for my 54" mower this afternoon, I wondered if something like this was available somewhere. I come home and tonight this pops up on RUclips. I will be looking further into it.
How do they work in tall grass. He was mowing in thin grass, that was not very tall. Where I am located. Grass can grow 4 inches in a week. If it starts raining. It can get to 10 inches tall, or more before I can mow.
You can probably just spend a little time with a cheap file and sharpen your blades instead of buying new ones.

You need the fiber washer on the Grasshopper. They are there for a reason! Grasshoppers are wonderfully engineered, they put the fiber washers there because they serve a purpose.
Not really the only purpose they serve is to keep dirt from going up the spindle the work just as good without it.
Very good idea man. I like the concept because it gives users an alternative to mower blades if customers are having issues finding a proper mower blade for their mower. Very high props to you good sir. Also not to mention that it cuts weeds without issues unlike the traditional mower blade.

The proper mower blade for your mower is always the OEM blade. And ughh…. Mower blades cut weeds just fine lol

Looks to mulch effectively if a self feeding option were to be functional and available would be more enticing. I’m a fan of a pass through system that could be wound with a 12mm. Impact. Say about 30’ spool would probably handle a few acres before having to ramp it hanging off the trailer in the field to replace the line. Great concept

I've been thinking about this since I first saw the DR. Trimmer since it is basically the same lol. How does this do with thick heavy wet and tall grass? I love how much quieter these are compared to metal blades.
I'm not sold for my lawn care business for homes/turf but for mowing a non manicured or rough area like a field I can see this serving a real purpose.
Have you done any testing with solid obstructions like rock? Does the line break off? I tell ya there's not much that gripes me more than hearing a brand new set of blades bang off of a rock out in tall rough stuff.
why would you even ask such a question if you are a lawncare business operator. you know how string trimmer does battle with chainlink fences rocks and tree branches and bushes.
this is straight up for baseball fields only. plastic vs everything else, i bet you have to lift your mower up after every acre of mow and replace them due to uncut grass lines between the blades. you only get about 40,000 cycles before the grass alone wears the plastic away to whisps poking out of the trimmers
@@aprilgeneric8027 we don't know what construction or thickness those lines are. .105 line does great against rock fence and curbs. Ever heard of a walk behind trimmer? Even that is made to deal with heavier duty cutting.

@@aprilgeneric8027 btw. I'd rather replace a set of these than of a set of blades x3 @ $40 per when I'm mowing a tall area that's closer to a field than a lawn and has unseen obstructions. And then there's damage to spindles because blades don't give...The other option would be to buy a $12-$20,000 brush hog attachment for my skid. Not sure if you're just trying to chime in and have an opinion where you should be listening but the concept and product seems like a no brainer for several situations if it works at all. @@aprilgeneric8027 one more thing April. I can install 12 feet of .95 line in my trimmer and not have to replace it for 2 days. That's running it against chain link fence, rock walls, cement garden curbing, and I edge with my trimmer as well, which is notorious for eating up line...2 days. The quality of line being used, that line being matched to its intended purpose and of course some operator knowhow all make a big difference.
@@PuBearsticksWhat kind of .095 line are you using that lasts that long? I use husqvarna titanium force, which is pretty strong, and 12 feet won’t last 2 hours, much less 2 days.

Giving God the glory! Yes ! He is the reason. I'm in good old rocky Missouri and been thinking about a better solution to the regular blade. This just made my decision. On top of the previous my wife lost her toes at 11 from a mower accident. Now 47 this will be on my grasshopper as soon as I figure out the details. 😊

I’ve got a Toro titan max 60 inch cut. Do you need a beta tester for a Toro mower? I’m mow around 7 acres. And cut it around 3 to 4 inches just depends on what field it is and if it’s visible from the road
Once you have one line cut to the right length, couldn't it be used as a measure to cut a batch to the same length in the shop and reduce the later install work?
yep, precut them all....
preload your hub & go....
but forget about getting longer grass (say, if you missed a week of mowing) cut level as blades have the ability to pull air (the updraft/force flow) upwards from the outer edge of the mower chassis and that also lifts the grass blades upwards (mostly) to give an even level cut AND the blades propel the grass out the side chute or into a catch bag.
These WILL NOT.....
And i doubt they will mulch as there is no updraft so whatever you grass blade length is, i think (IMHO) that will be left behind for you to rake....
I can see this product used for specific endeavors but not for well kept lawns....
A version for electric corded cheap line trimmers, now that i could use.....
I bet the mowers use less gas not swinging those heavy blades plus the bearings I’m sure last much longer and decks. I have a new Cub Cadet XT1 so hope it works with my mower.

Will it cut off taller grass? How about weeds with tough stems like pigweed?
Good morning, Randall, yes, the REVO6 2.0 and REVOline will cut off taller grass, and we have used it to clean up corral areas with pigweed, briars, and thistle with same results as metal blades. As with metal blades, if the grass/weeds are very heavy, it may take a couple of passes to get the desired results.

its just a mower with weed wacker strings just use a adapter for your string timmer or weed wacker as its essentially just a mower adapter it just keeps your cut clean instead of 1 to 3 inch dips from free handhanding it
I have that exact mower, 729BT6, I don’t see how this is a better solution to actual metal blades. I actually have 2 61” Grasshoppes units, I keep around 18 acres manicured. I cannot keep blades sharp. I appreciate the thought into this, but I can’t see it being a reasonable solution. The decks are made for vacuum and airflow. Without it, the grass won’t be pulled up to make contact with the blades.
Would this improve the battery run time on a battery push mower?
Kind of reminds me of the walk behind string trimmers, just on a mower deck instead. Great idea. Wonder though, how long do the strings tend to last, seems like that will get expensive really quick replacing string all the time. With my walk behind trimmer it used 0.155" line, and anytime it would hit anything it would send the line flying, so you were always having to replace the line....same issues with your system?
I have two of those and never had that problem. The line eventually wears down. The key is attaching the line properly so it does not get yanked off. That's easier with my DR one but possible on the old Sears one if you put the line on right.
@@stanley8574 The Craftsman one I had the line looped around a hook, and always seemed to pull itself out LOL. Worked great but now that I've got everything under control I hadn't used it in 7 years, gave it to my new neighbor who's property was overgrown by the time they got moved in and the rainy weather was gone....he's been using the heck out of it LOL.
@@wildbill23c I still use my craftsman one to do most of my weedeating. I have a blade on the Dr one currently. I actually liked the craftsman better for weed eating. The line stays on but I guess its maybe an art to putting it on. Last year I put a HF predator motor on it and it works better than ever.
@wildbill23c, Good morning and thanks for your engagement and feedback. We currently use a .170 line, and the current version has routinely exhibited approximately 9 hours of mowing time. It has been less and more depending on the mowing conditions. We do not have any issues with retention as that was a specific area we addressed on the REVO6 2.0. We are in the field-testing stage of our new REVOline that we are excited about for the extended durability and cut quality and we hope to have it out in June as well.

@@BladeSolution Thank you for the reply. Although my yard is pretty tamed down now, your system would be great for rough, and challenging mowing conditions, or mowing an unknown area...I tore up a mower deck mowing a property that was supposedly clean....it wasn't.

I like the idea unfortunately i could never afford to drop $258 for the 3 blade package. Not downing the product but i just rebuilt my whole deck spindles belt pulleys and blades for $140. I would really like to try the single one you make on my awd Husqvarna slef propelled. I mainly use it for ditch cutting and steep hill cutting, makes thing alot easier on my back but i still have to break out weeater because of rocks.

How long do the plastic lines last?
how many acres can you mow before the plastic line wears out to the point of leaving uncut strips of grass between the blade sets on a triple spindle deck? how even is the grass cut since there is zero vacuum lift with these glorified weed whips? do you have a mower lift system to make it a 30 second change out of whip line per deck spindle? it takes me 1 minute and 20 seconds to replace all 3 of my blades on my john deere 445. using norton avos disc it takes me more time to mount the blade in the bench vice to sharpen each side of each blade than it does to sharpen the blades even when i chop the tops or corners off boulders poking out of the ground after frost heaves them to the surface every single year.
do i have to pick up every single stick and tree branch in a yard that falls after every windy day and rain storm or will this disintegrate them like my john deere 445 1/4" steel blades do so i never have to pick up sticks, i just turn them straight away into soil amendment.
how does it fare in wet dew grass or recently rained on grass? does it clump any any situation frozen grass in the fall, wet grass in the spring and summer, how caked does the deck get after use? how much fuel does it save due to loss of vacuum lift and being 20 times lighter than a blade?
is it mulch deck compatible to mulch? what is the recommended cut heights it is capable of? Bermuda needs to be kept very short, tall fescue needs to be kept long i keep mine at 4". i also cut some yards at 1/4" greens level such as tee box and cup level like golf courses.

1. Acreage Before Line Wear: The longevity of the REVOline can vary based on several factors, including the type of grass, terrain, and mowing conditions. Under typical residential mowing conditions, our testing shows that the REVOline can last for approximately 9 hours of use under “normal” mowing conditions. Based on that you can do the math for number of acres depending on the type of mower being used.
2. Grass Cut Quality: Our products are designed to provide an even and consistent cut. While it is true that our REVOsafe™ technology operates differently than traditional blade mower blades, the cutting system ensures minimal uncut strips of grass. The design compensates for the lack of vacuum lift with precise line positioning and efficient cutting techniques.
3. Mower Lift System: The mower lift system will be at the discretion of each individual user. The time to make the change will likewise vary depending on each individual user. The REVO6 2.0 hub design makes insertion and extraction of the line a simple push/pull process.
4. Debris Handling: Our REVOsafe™ technology is capable of handling small sticks and branches, breaking them down effectively. While larger debris might require clearing to prevent wear on the cutting lines, typical yard waste from windy days and storms should not pose a problem.
5. Mulch Deck Compatible: Our REVOsafe™ technology is actually at its best in with a mulch deck cover/set up. It does a respectable job of discharging and a poor job of bagging. The cut levels can be tweaked to compare to your shared heights. You will need to factor in the line slightly higher than the bottom of the hub, so you will need to adjust accordingly for the closer cuts. We have always shared that the REVO6 and REVOline provides for a well-maintained yard but would not provide the pristine cut needed for a golf course. We will continue to R&D line to meet these needs as we grow.

It’s like a riding dr push trimmer I like the idea it would definitely be cheaper than metal blades.
I made some of these things years ago. Get in tall grass with a multiple blade deck and you will always leave stripes of uncut grass.

As a 15+ year lawn care business owner, I fully support entrepreneurship… but brother, this ain’t it. This concept at best could work okay for about 2 types of grass, in perfect conditions. Providing no uplift, no clean cut for each blade of grass, and don’t even get me started on wet grass. This is just asking for matted down grass, and disease prone torn blades of grass in most regions and with most grass types. Maybe I’m wrong, but also I’m not. Redirect that energy and give us metal string trimmer line!
Metal string trimmer line was literally the first thing I thought of to ensure it actually works on all sorts of grass types. Why is that so hard to get anyways?
@@8cylinderstolife737pretty sure if I ran metal line on my 40cc brush cutter a stray bit of that line could quite easily end up in a vital organ, you can get wire infused in plastic line but I don’t think it’s that much better than just 3mm thick quality plastic line.

I like the ingenuity, but for me, something like a wheeled trimmer with 20” swath and like .155” line, makes more sense than running trimmer line under the deck.
But again, in general I love seeing people take fresh looks at longstanding practices to see if meaningful improvement can be made

This seems like a good tool for mowing rough ground without worrying about rock strikes.I use my riding mower to cut my flat lawn in the warm months, then pick up and mulch leaves in the fall. I'm not sure this would be helpful for the leaf cleanup.
How is fuel consumption impacted by changing from metal blades to the trimmer line?

I would like to see some real rural farm testing, I have very little nice grass on my farm, we commonly cut wild oats and grass up to 2 feet tall. We have a grasshopper 729 with a 61 inch rear discharge deck.

Ive used a DR walk behind trimmer for over 10 years. These plastic trim lines, while easy to change, are not for mowing grass. The line tears the grass leaving it uneven. You have a nice idea, I wish you well, but I cant get behind this.
I mean this is pretty cool. Ill give you that. But youre never gonna convince me those strings are tougher than a solid steel blad i can sharpen with a grinder in 30 seconds

That seems like it would be a pain to change the cords every time you hit a rock or stick. Had a string trimmer that I manually changed the line and it got old quick!
Id like to see it thick dense grass, if it'll work as clean as a blade, so go get er done.
I like the Meg-mo system better if I was gonna change from factory blades.
can you still use a bagger to collect grass clippings?
I'm guessing that some mowers decks with a separate motor for blowing clippings might work. Most bagger systems use High Lift blades for the extra push.
Good afternoon, @174joedirt. Our apologies for the delayed response. The REVOsafe technology does not work well with a bagger due to less lift than a curved metal blade. It does work well with a mulching cover and/or discharge. The lift is not the same as a curved blade needed for bagging, but the hub and line creates enough to efficiently mulch/discharge and provides the aesthetic quality of a well-maintained yard while creating a safer user environment and a more equipment friendly environment.

@@BladeSolution “LESS lift”? You mean NO lift presumably. You MIGHT induce enough vortices to mulch very dry, short grass, but even your 3 blade ride-on, which was the only example shown set up to discharge, showed ZERO evidence of it doing so.

I like the idea, just seems less efficient. Your comparing Apples to Oranges. Hitting rocks or sticks or even scraping sidewalks will destroy those lines in secs or make them so short/uneven that the grass will have spots uncut. Now you gotta go over the uneven/uncut spots again. If you had some kinda steel or kevlar string I'd be sold
Bad idea because the strings don’t last long. If you’re in an area with lots of rocks, then raise the blades higher.
There is No updraft created so using a Bagger is probable useless.

It’s actually the exact same design as some of the strimmer heads ,I must of used this type at least 14 years ago, I found you just need to keep replacing the cord to often, your never going beat a metal blade ,plus with a metal blade it’s usually designed to lift the grass before it’s cut , your cord design won’t do that 🤔
Steel blades are more expensive but will last much longer than plastic string!

I can appreciate anyone trying to innovate, but these aren't going to produce any lift to pick the grass up and cut it. Perhaps they'll be good for overgrown areas, I'm not sure.
Not going go work in talk grass, you need the airflow generated go eject clippings properly.

I wanna see some tall grass
Just to echo some other comments here - am I missing something!?
This appears to completely ignore one of the main purposes of blades - to create a vacuum under the deck to lift grass that has laid over, drooped, been flattened by wheels etc, to be cut evenly to the same length.
There is also no way the grass can be expelled or collected.
I also think the safety aspect is a little exaggerated. If you have ever seen the way a line trimmer can positively DESTROY thin metal or plastic downpipes, rural ag-pipe, water tanks and risers etc, I don’t imagine any kids are going to be saved each year if someone inadvertently BACKS over them.
Seems to me the only REAL benefit is that less rocks will be thrown from mowers that are actually set up to DISCHARGE grass, which it ISN’T in two of the three examples presented, in which case the only benefit is less blade and spindle damage, and maybe then a corresponding decrease in cost.
What am I missing?

While that is a good idea for really rough areas Grass needs to be clean cut or it freys n thats not good for grass .
After going to the site. These are way too expensive for my wallet. As I was going try them on my 54-inch Craftsman, but $200.00 dollars is way out of line. $100.00 would be more like it. Good God they wait $100.00 dollars for the push mower set up.

You lose one of those 6 strands, it seems to me that will throw off the balance of the spindle and ruin stuff.

Yea! That is what we need more plastic waste in a soil. There could never be any long term harm in making layers of plastic in everyone's yard.

We tried various types of cable and wires, but they generated dangerous "shrapnel" when shredding or breaking, so we focused on R&D for a REVOLUTIONARY type of line that will be durable enough for the mowing environment, provide a comparable cut quality and still provide a flexible and safer alternative to metal blades.

Ok, a few things are wrong with your video. I have been using a craftsman weedeater trimmer head on my mower with 130 line for over 24 years. 1st. You didn't say how far that you went on each mower. 2nd. You didn't show what the lines looked like still attached after you were done cutting. 3. You didn't cut very tall grass.
