Very top notch video! I just got my pipes in the mail yesterday and the detail in your video painted a perfect picture of what to expect with the install. Cheers!
Great video!! Goood in depth view. I am a m5 lover. All years. Am also a technician who has only been in automotive school for 8 months. And i will grab my tool box and open almost any reg car up, But i am scared to touch these expensive cars because i am afraid i wont be able to put it back how it came from factory. A fear i am fighting to overcome because i plan on purchasing an E60 body m5 very soon and almost everything will be diy. So thank u for this courageous video sir
Thanks for the video. I own a 2018 M550i. It's the N63 V8 bitubo, so our engines are roughly approximate. I have been contemplating catless downpipes, but have heard conflicting stories as to effectiveness/issues. I was hoping I could ask a few questions, please: (1) Were you pleased with this mod? (2) Did you ever run a second dyno to confirm improvement from baseline 495 whp? (3) Did you notice an unpleasant odor due to the cat not being present? and (4) Is the increase in sound noticeable when cruising? Thanks for your time!
I recently failed inspection, in NJ, with some "Not Ready" and "Unsupported" monitor status'. This video will help me immensely, in the event, I need to replace the four O2 sensors. Thank you, and very nice job.
Fernando Freitas thank you. Know however that if you're tuned to eliminate cel, that there is no way around the monitors not being ready. Unfortunately you will need to put cats in and flash to stock in order to pass
That's the thing, I do not know if the car has been modified; is there a way to find out, if the car has been modified? Also, I would I go about re-flashing to stock? My car failed the initial inspection, the day after the 4 turbo tubes were fixed (from leaking). I was told at the Inspection Station that I would need to drive the car for 100 miles. I drive 250 miles, and went back to the Inspection Station, and failed with the same exact monitor status'.
Hi nice video! Quick question did you have to tune ECU to not get a check engine light or was is Okk without the tune? I’m planning on doing the same!!
The micro cats will end up giving you a different CEL from the missing O2 sensor fault code. The code is P013B. It took a very long time to diagnose that it was the micro cats giving me this issue. Now it's resolved by removing the micro cats and flashing a real ecu tune.
You are completely right. Sticking one upstream sensor on rich. I gave them to a friend with an e92 M3 and they work great for him. Crazy how much more advanced the M5 is
Did the company you bought the downpipes from advertise no check engine light? I got mine from Simon Motorsports overseas and over there supposedly the EPA restrictions aren't set to such high standard as they are here in the US, so somehow the ecu's there are configured to be allow less restriction and thus doesn't create problems with either microcats or even having no cats at all. So they sold me on the downpipes without knowledge of these different configurations in different countries. Now that's crazy lol!
No they did not advertise that, I knew the CEL was going to happen, I was just trying to experiment and see how touchy the car would really be to it. But yes I've for sure heard that the North American destined cars monitor under much tighter tolerances than what most other countries get. Instead of certain cars specifically being sent to California, all of our cars now meet the CARB standards and are much more locked down. The commies strike again! Lol
Did the check engine light come on did you get it turn it off thu tuning ? I have f10 as well s2 Diana tuned if they don’t support downpipe‘s but I figure if I can get a tune that I can pass emissions with I’m cool with it
Turned it off thru tuning, no type of foolers ever did work on this thing lol. Unfortunately passing emissions this way wont work because they disable downstream monitoring all together to make it happy. Have to either swap in the cats and stock tune prior to inspection, register where it's not required, or get somebody to do it the slimy way for you
What are the best mods to put on an F10 M5 for sound/power? I don’t want to deal with emissions and stuff. If that’s the case, can I only put on an aftermarket exhaust?
hi, i own an M6 F06, and would like to install catless. but you have of course to buy that extention of lambda sensors? or you can elimanated as well!!! thx

What if I hollow out the cats and use the existing down pipes, would it have the same sound? I've seen videos where people did that to a 370z and it sounded ok.
Nacho Biness you can, but more than likely youre going to need those to keep your car inspected and legal at some point, and for the price you can get a set of downpipes for its not worth destroying the valuable factory cats
Yes that's one way to do it. The only problem with JB4's delete function is that it doesn't just target O2's, it auto deletes anything that pops up before monitors set, so if something of importance tries to warn you, it may be covered up as well
Aurino Wanderley if you do a true ecu tune they can both disable the cat monitor for the O2 light and remove speed limiter. check companies like DME Tuning, BPMsport, possibly Dinan as well

Thanks dude! Yes you will more or less get the same result. You don't even have to cut them open, the cat material is all at the top so you could just drill or chisel it all out from there. I actually know somebody who did theirs that way. The reason I didnt want to is because they are worth quite a bit of money, and I don't want to destroy them in the event I needed to put them back in for some reason, should you need it legitimately inspected or something like that. It would cost more in the long run to gut these then need to come up with a new set than just getting an average price set of DPs
Can I ask you where you bought the catalytic converter adapter for the downpipes? I have same kind of downpipes but BMW complains about that they see no cat though OBD. Thanks in advice !

I've got the BM3 tuning platform installed from ProTuningFreaks. Any of the reputable flash tunes will give you the option to turn off the cat monitoring function. You need one of the deep O2 sensor sockets with the slot down the side that you slip the wire into
