I'm getting closer to being able to say "everything I own runs" (except the 65 Galaxie).
You know what that means, Something is thinking about breaking very unexpectedly & inconvenient-like.
For the moment, Carb Cheater is available again at thecarbcheater.com/ until it sells out again - last batch for a few months as we want to spend our time with R&D for a standalone timing control product, and frankly just to catch our breath!

I saw this useful looking implement today at Home Depot. It was a long round stick. With a board stuck across the bottom of it. And the board had thousands of tiny little sticks coming out the bottom of it. A guy was pushing it around the floor in the lumber department and the only problem he was having is that it kept building up dirt in front of the tiny sticks. Anyway, thinking outside the box like I do, it occurred to me that they might have one of those things in Iowa and maybe they'd let you borrow it for your barn floor.

Use hylomar as dressing for those gaskets on both sides. Hylomar is better than grease. It stays the consistancy of grape jelly. Hylomar allows the gasket to be removed whole without sticking. Used it assembling my FE 360 in my 1968 F100. My truck is the same color as your Galaxie 500.

The trick for getting Cork gaskets to work is using Gasket Shellac, specifically "Indian Head" although now its Lions Head, a Permatex product, little brown bottle with the red or white cap. Its non-permeable and non-hardening, and fills in all of the crevasses and imperfections of the gasket and the gasket surface. Its the only way to go for old engine gaskets, use it on literally everything, especially FE. RTV and Silicone simply won't prevent leakage, long term or otherwise.

Luke, i like your videos and i am in general really impressed about your detailed knowledge about old cars and also your attitude on youtube and also about life - at least what you share about.
one thing that i already saw a few times in your video i want to talk about:
its that you pour old gasoline, engine degreaser or other waste fluids directly to the ground. i was a little surprised that this seems to be usual for you guys?
when i am working on engines, collecting that fluids is also a pain in the ass, but i i cant just spill it on the ground with the knowledge that it will harm nature. my consciense cant live with that.
please dont get me wrong here, this is just a small input from my side and nothing that should insult in any way. maybe its something that you would consider in future but also maybe not🙂
thank you for all the videos, im looking forward to your new content.

Question 2, did you buy the dentside? ; Regarding the PT 4x4 posts, they will take a while to fade w/o weather exposure AND they will reject coatings. However, wood-boring insects will not attack the end grain. The wood that garage was built with cannot be matched. It has 65+ years of aging and may have been virgin growth. Just live with it is my advice. Or get cedar posts if you cannot.

@@ThunderHead289 My folks bought a new '64 XL 2dr hardtop in October of '63. Early production car, #837 out of Chicago assembly. I was 7. Our Ford dealer in Milan, IL located the car in Clinton, IA and we drove it home from there. I vividly remember the ride home from Clinton, in the back seat, marveling at how cool that white interior with black accents looked. I was smitten. Made me a Ford guy for life. Nine years later I inherited the car @ 15 with the 352 broken, my dad and I did an engine swap that summer and I started driving in it. Watching you wash the car I knew every detail, body line and crease by memory. I love me some '64 Galaxies.

Someone showed up with double what I paid for it - at the time, I took a look at my life: how much utility and usefulness that car could have, the cost of even getting it to the point of starting to see what else did or didn't work and the investment if my time to get there, what other things I could do with the money instead....
All signs pointed to "take the money".
If I lived closer to a drag strip that might have changed things, but it was a very purpose built car - wasn't going to just easily drive it to work or anything without major changes.
So, out the door it went - and it funded several things important to my life here like all my hay equipment.
And that's the story of the torino 🙂
First time I've really ever told anyone in any real detail

THAT CRUISAMATIC FX/MX BECAME THE FMX FOR 69 351 AND BIGGER ENGINES AND LATER TRANSFORMED INTO THE AOD. "What makes the FMX different than the C4 and C6 is its Ravineaux twin-planetary gearset design, which was also employed in the later AOD, AODE, and 4R70W automatic overdrives".

@@ThunderHead289 I rebuilt my FX small case cruise o matic and there's nothing cheap or flimsy about it at all. It's been holding up behind a healthy 390 just great. Not a whole lot of transmissions can run for 56 years and 158,000 miles without being messed with. Only thing that was wrong with mine was hard seals and the clutches in the reverse/high drum were worn - likely from the hard seals. Best shifting automatc I have.

@@ThunderHead289 Ford called ALL of them Cruise-O-Matics (CoM), regardless of "Case" Size, which is actually how they are designated. The CoM on your Galaxie SHOULD be an MX, Medium case, which is actually a precursor to the C6 technically, as the "big block" FEs started switching over to C6s starting in '66. The FX is the smaller case, and is actually the precursor to the C4, which is the light duty trans, made for the Windsor series motors. To make it even more complicated, Ford created the FMX - the most common trans for Ford vernacular, which is even MORE different, but is a combination of the FX/MX with modern touches, like a drop in dipstick tube and gearsets similar to a C6, and was built as a heavier duty automatic for the Small Blocks. What gets even more fun is that a Cruise-O-Matic could be a 3 speed OR even a 2 speed in the earlier years, which was previously denoted as the "Ford-O-Matic". Ford in their ultimate wisdom. I am told they are relatively heavy duty, yet I have also broken 2 of them so far in my 62 Tbird and 66 Country Sedan Wagon. They have a few major weaknesses, mainly to do with the valve body design, losing 2nd and 3rd or Reverse is really common.

For what its worth, I put a whole can of Seafoam cleaner in my 22R pickup motor and ran it 200 miles. Changed the oil and then put a whole quart of Marvel oil in and ran the motor another 200 miles. "ALL" of the carbon that once came out the exhaust was gone and the oil pressure at idle went from 10 to 25 lbs and the running pressure went from 60 to 75 lbs. Then I ran some "Restore" engine treatment and the power went up about 15% but the mileage stayed the same. Now I put Marvel oil in the gas. 1 table spoon per tank. An old tired 22R is now running cooler and much more smoothly. Like Leno, I'm not much for mechanic in a can. Hope that helps!!

Cruise-O-Matic was name given to the green/white dot, dual range automatic transmissions. Early C4 & C6 were Cruise-O-Matics. Name dropped in '67 when the "normal" PRN321 was finally implemented. Same transmission in Mercury were Merc-O-Matic. I owned two '64 Fastbacks. One loaded with 390 & Cruise-O, other 289 & three on tree that was my favorite. I bought & swapped 390 & three on tree drive train from a identical T-boned '64(less than half the miles). Sold both in the early/mid '70s in favor of a four speed 428 Cobra Jet Cobra Fairlane that I still have.

My father bought a '64 Galaxie 500 four-door just like that new -- it was Guardsman Blue with a white top and had a three-speed stick transmission. Otherwise, it was mechanically identical to this one. My mother kept the car after he bought a new one in '67 -- it became the car in which I learned to drive and was my favorite car of all of them he had. My dad always believed the 352 FE block V-8 was the best engine Ford ever built. I would love to have that car but I already have a '55 Chevy that is my money pit. It eventually racked up some 132,000 before mom traded it and it still ran great. I really loved that car.

I had a hard time keeping the plugs clean with the 13:1 compression ratio and the crappy gas of the '70s, but it was a fun car to drive in the twisty roads of the California foothills.
