Earthbound and chrono trigger had some of the best music for their age. I collect video game vinyl because video games are art, and their music tells a story without words
In the original MOTHER, you were collecting pieces of the melodies for Queen Mary because she forgot how it went. Later it's revealed that Mary was actually Maria, the one who raised Giegue and used those melodies to calm him. The point I'm making is that these eight melodies you collect in your sound stone belongs to someone. But it isn't for any specific character. The song belongs to you, either Ness or the player. I like to think that this song comes from the inner most parts of Ness'/your soul, manifesting within these Your Sanctuary spots, and collecting them unlocks the true potential you always had deep down inside. Forgive me if it makes no sense, as I thought of it on the spot.
The way you explained it actually sounds so beautiful! The right melodies in Earthbound are like your memories that help you realize who you truly are, and help you reach your full potential. Which ties into what you said that each melody you collect along the journey belongs to you, and they each come from yourself because they are pieces of your memories. I think that's what makes Earthbound such a wonderful experience, because it's not like other games where you collect objects that don't really correlate to the player on a personal level, or don't really tie in to why the objects show significance besides just saving the world. Anyways, it was really nice reading your idea! It made perfect sense to me, and I hope you have a great rest of your week :]

I swear, every time I hear this I keep getting reminded of Satoru Iwata. God, I miss him... On another note though, I find this track to perfectly fit scenarios where a character is going through their own distant memories... although that's probably because that is kind of what happened when this track started playing in-game.
maybe in the game, you were able to reach him, and his true conscience heard this and was able to rest peacefully, while what was left died. maybe you saved him? probably not, but it sounds nice.
@@aria5981 Giygas =/= Giegue. Giygas the worst part of Giegue. The inner evil and lust for power. Giegue died before the worst part of him was contained in the Devil's Machine. After killing Giygas, Giegue rests in peace. To feel better, imagine Giegue being with George and Maria in the afterlife.
My theory is that giygas is actually Ness in a fetus, so basically they're the same person, but giygas is a corrupted Ness, and the final battle is Ness against his evil self. I find it quite artistic. So basically, Ness is the giegue with a good heart and giygas is the evil giegue.
anyone else feel this song and "His Theme" from Undertale share a very similar emotional connection? 8 Melodies is played as everyone reaches out to Ness, who is trying to reach out to Giegue His Theme is played as Frisk reaches out to Asriel... And both of them, make you cry as soon as you hear them...
It was a long, winding road that led us here, Now in the darkness we face our worst fear. So pray for us, my friends, to go home, and we'll be together again. It is like reminding me of the whole journey of Ness, and my whole journey playing it, how I felt playing earthbound, and my whole journey up to now.
