Ignore the false positives from the weird AV's no-one has heard of, the majority of the trustworthy one's (BitDefender, Avast, Avira, Malwarebytes, Microsoft) all say it's safe and that's what's important.
Ableton 10.1 allows for soloing the selected track so the whole end of this video is no longer necessary!! I'll put it below anyways:

Logic. By emagic GmbH. When I tried it in late 90s on PC, it had no undo function. It simply demanded you to be perfect. The perfect software for perfect people who never make mistakes. Interesting MIDI scripting feature, but you couldn't layer it like a VST, editing was destructive, and oh so very destructive.
Siana Gearz Yeah... that was the late 90s mate... It is a hella lot better now trust me! Some examples of people who use logic: Nicky Romero, Magnificence, musicbyLUKAS Mike Williams, Disclosure, Kendrick Lamar.
@@na-qi2gj yah yah I know. But I shared this largely forgotten fact because i thought it was funny. Apple be like "we gun buy them the moment they can implement proper undo", bam!
I think decent undo wasn't all that common or all that stable across various software, but its lack was especially painful and a pity in Logic back then specifically because it could do pretty neat things.
Siana Gearz haha yeah fair enough I didn’t know that actually! The more you know I guess 😄
@@na-qi2gj Nicky Romero made a plugin that makes your audio channel duck in accordance to a connected LFO. Let that sink in, a musician who's too lazy to sidechain. Logic is bad, there's no two ways around it anyhow. Sure it looks sexy, and runs relatively well, but it's nobodies first choice of a DAW unless you plan on stealing Apple loops and calling that "your music".
Dude, this is wayyy to much for me to take in right now. Every few minutes I'm having my mind blown I can't watch this is one sitting.

12:27 Small correction: Save as new version is "Ctrl + Alt + S" not "Ctrl + Alt + Space" oopsie woopise
Also we found a MUCH SIMPLER solution to the whole Windows work-around at the end of the video (thank you Endre)!
It uses a MaxForLive device instead. You add one, link the button to a key and it works on all tracks. The link is in the description.
It's not perfect though (read description why) so I'll still be using my convoluted ahk/loopMIDI method.
I've been using Ableton for 9 years and didn't know half of this stuff haha! Shows how easy it is to just stick with a workflow you're used to even when there's a better way of doing things. Thank you! 🙏🏼

Maaaaan it's been like 7 years that I'm using Ableton since Live 8.
Your LES it's just awesome, i feel like I'm discovering again my DAW, thank you so much for all your efforts you guys put into it ❤️
This is basically everything I wanted as an ex FL Studio user! Thank you so much for your work, and even more so doing it for free!! You're a blessing, man.
I can tell you put a lot of time into these videos. We appreciate the tiny edits and jokes as well. Brilliant tips!
8:17 I followed the video and found a couple things he didn't explain. 1. to achieve this you have to map the chain itself to the macro key by right click area above the 0-127 grid. 2. This way doesn't give the same sound as mapping dry/wet button of the effects to the macro key, so you have to listen and compare which one you like more. I personally use this way only if the effect doesn't have dry/wet dial, but don't use this just to shortcut mapping group of effects. Anyway this is super awesome video. Thank you Dylan!
I've been using Ableton for 4 years and somehow still learned something new
Sidice Damn dude, you should use it more often than once a month then
Ulek _ sorry hater, but I’m never not on Ableton💪🏼😤
Sidice Hey love your stuff just wondering on what happened to your dubstep tracks you made. I really liked them.
TheSillySpy I just don’t enjoy making edm anymore, dubstep scene is too toxic
Sidice That’s fair enough. There anyway for you to leave a playlist of old stuff or do you prefer to have them deleted?
Hoo boy, it's finally here!! Thanks everyone for the kind messages :}

This is fucking LIT. Seriously the best thing I've seen come out of the producer community. Thank you so much! I'm experiencing *zero* bugs, but I do have one question: Is there anyway to create our own piano roll chord functions? I usually write in FOLD mode, and I'd like to add more chord combinations to LES that work specifically in FOLD.
Awesome work guys, this LES is really something
bwn 2k unfortunatey not! But I might implement it in the future :)
This video changed my life. Thank you Dylan.
ikr
I used FL Studio for about 4 years when they were on top of everything, and recently purchased Ableton 10 Live Suite while it was on sale! I am SO impressed by all the ease-of-access features, shortcuts, and general sound design capability that Ableton 10 has over FL Studio. For anyone wanting to start producing, or figuring out which DAW is for them, do no jump into ableton unless you can afford it comfortably, and are ready to sit down and learn! Luckily with my experience, FL Studio translates nicely to Ableton, but it is a RIDE if you don't know what you're doing. I recommend adding this video, and a few others to a specific playlist to go back to. Thank you Dillon, for all the tips! It's heavily appreciated. I actually switched over mid-album (currently working on) from Fl Studio to Ableton due to preference, but I can get the same quality and performance from FL Studio as I can from Ableton. It doesn't matter what DAW you end up choosing, as they all are reflective of the creative process in your head!
Can you point me in other videos that will help me with this ever daunting task of learning live
@@xXxLax4LifexXx Of course! I'll link a few other videos here that may be of help:
(Note, Dillon prefers FL Studio over Ableton video-wise, so sorry for the lack of links to his channel)
First, organization is key. Here's one that really helped me: ruclips.net/video/L3AKlBpMBKo/видео.html
Second, it's important to know where different buttons and features are located in Ableton, along with shortcuts to do things faster:
ruclips.net/video/L3AKlBpMBKo/видео.html
And here are some basic tips and tutorial videos I would recommend to learn and expand your own personal repertoire:
ruclips.net/video/L3AKlBpMBKo/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/XUQz3SzuVnA/видео.html
Finally, I HIGHLY recommend you watch youtubers recreate songs/artist styles in Ableton, and watch how they use the program. Dillon does it quite often on his channel, so do peruse his videos! But I know another good channel for example, Composerly, does great remakes and breaks down each thing he does.
It's daunting, but it's so worth the time if you're interested or find yourself falling in love with music more and more as the years progress. My final tip (whether it's helpful or not) is to take a break from time to time, and DON'T BE OVERCRITICAL.
But most importantly, have fun :)
Learnt a few new tricks, thanks :)
Here's a few I didn't see mentioned:
- You can also preview existing chords/notes in the clip view by pressing the left and right arrow keys (assuming blue headphone switch is turned on). And if you hold notes and press the left/right arrow keys you can input or remove chords/notes. Kind of a like a step editor.
(I also find the ctrl-1 and ctrl-2 keys handy for changing the grid size when doing things like this. And as an aside ctrl-4 will toggle grid quantization on and off)
- I have file analysis off by default to avoid all those .asd files, but you can still have Live create .asd files for specific samples you've been working on (warping) by clicking Save in that audio clip's Sample Box.
- You can already hide and unhide (but not close) all visible plugin UIs with ctrl-alt-P. But I found Alt Gr + P works as a more convenient shortcut (if you have the Alt Gr key anyway)
I was watching your scared to be lonely remake, while this drops, good work man
0:35 - Part 1 (very cool tricks)
3:46 - Part 2 (my workflow)
7:33 - Part 3 (how i have things set up)
10:22 - Part 4 (custom scripts)
I've been using ableton for about 6 months now, holy shit dude, this video was so helpful. I absolutely love Live, the work flow just makes so much sense to me, but I had some small gripes with it. You addressed and fixed all of those, huge thank you
This is tremendous, thank you! So much useful stuff and the enhancement suite is dank af. Also love the bits of humour sprinkled throughout, perfect 5/7 video.
Ableton changed my music making world. I started out with Cubase-reason-pro tools- now ableton live. It’s all about what program you know best though. My lil works wonders in fruity loops cuz he knows it front and back!
None of this matters if you don't have a folder of nine thousand 808s and that trap snare sound
@Raigou I see what you did there 😏
Imagine not knowing how to synthesise 808's.
@Jacob Johnston The basic sound is just a sine with saturation, though admittedly they are very hard to hone and perfect.
I was genuinely waiting for this video to turn into a giant ad once you hit the script section but nah 😂 10/10 would watch again
Only 0:50 seconds after clicking on the video and that ctrl + space trick already changed my life!

grouping sidechain track in the instrument rack, very smart. going to do that all the time now
Wow, this video went from 0 to 100 REAL quick. I've been an Ableton user for a few years now, still learned good bits from this. I wish there was a way to play from marker when you have multiple midi clips selected. I can't use the new multi clip editing feature because of this. If anyone has workaround, let me know.
Thank you dylan, this is an insane video of information that for months i've been searching for!

You learned more about Ableton in 1 year than I did in 2. Lol
Bro only the first trick with the midi and space bar! You made my day! I'm so happy now! I was so happy that I screamed "YEEEESSSS"
If you want to Arm / Mute / Solo the currently highlighted/selected track you can use the Max For Live device called Futility II. It is a lifesaver when recording vocals and whatnot. I can send it to you if you want :)
Thank you Endre! I put it in the description!
Wish you were in my life one year ago :')
I found it to be super buggy with Live 10. It always caused my tracks to activate when opening a project, even if they were disabled when I saved.
@@be8972 I have also noticed this happening even though I do not use the "Mute" hotkey. However, in my opinion the benefits of these hotkeys save more time in total than not using them. Note; I counter this issue with the Utility-effect set to mute.
I've used it a bit now. There's a few problems like if you any muted tracks they will all un-mute next time you reload the project, and the Solo feature isn't "exclusive".
It definitely is a lot simpler of a solution but I'll stick to my old method as that works the exact way I won't it.
It's still worth sharing though! Thanks again
I may give Abelton a try, because of this video. Thanks man Happy Holidays!!!
Ableton and FL is both good!
Holy cow dude. That Auto Hotkey script is fucking out of this world! Great great great video.

The reason I use Ableton is because it never breaks with its own logic/workflow. So it's confusing af at first but once you understand it, it becomes really intuitive. It also seems to be limitless in comparison to FL and Logic. You have the most possibilities with it, making experimental music is easier in it, it takes live recording better than FL, and is its own instrument because of the session view. It also syncs with lights and can be used for video too. It's perfect for live shows. On top of that Max for Live means you can make instruments. Its default effects and synths are awesome too. So although Logic is more intuitive, and FL has the easiest learning curve - I find Ableton to basically be limitless and the best all rounder. It's all a matter of preference but it is the DAW I recommend to people most of the time as I've used all three.
sneaky licc at the beginning
hi! just wanted to say thank you for this, ive been using it for two days and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
11:20 Dylan wants to sneak to our PCs to steal our beats 🤔
Maybe a little more from my experience:
For Version 9 and lower on Windows you can create a folder and place there shortcuts for all of your plugins. You can categorize all your plugins how you want you can remove all unnecessary versions of plugins from that list in Ableton (for example Mono, Mono SideChain versions etc). Then set this folder as a VST Custom Plugin folder in Ableton Preferences menu.
(Version 9) For Built-In plugins you can simply add a folder in places menu and drag there all the plugins that you use most often.
(Could be too basic but I used it wrong for a long time): when you have you midi editor activated, you don't have to resize to go back to your arrangement view. Just press shift+tab or click on the lower right corner of your workspace.
Right click on the right lower corner allows you to select the plugin that you need by its name from a context menu
Navigation: while all tracks are collapsed, select the tracks that you need with ctrl+click (or shift+click), than click the arrow icon on any of them to expand selected tracks. Resizing the height of any of your tracks will take effect on all the other selected tracks. Then alt + click on the arrow icon to collapse all of them back after you worked with them.
Finally, I can Switch to Ableton.
