It is important to be aware that while ChatGPT can provide information, it should not be considered a definitive source, and any information it provides should be fact-checked. This is demonstrated by an example where a query about a specific film was provided, but the information returned pertained to a different film with the same title. ChatGPT's mistake occurred even though the two films differ vastly with distinct plots, characters, actors/actresses, and release dates. Furthermore, it can be inferred that the model does not have any knowledge about the specific film queried, and that its source of knowledge might be limited to Wikipedia.

Well that is the fault of the person doing the input of the information but, l understand your point. Never make the mistake of thinking Wikipedia is infallible.

AI models improve exponentially in 2 or 3 years this will become so good at generating text that it will be harder and harder to detect plagiarism and will be more and more accurate

I think chat GPT is really cool. I currently attend university, and personally I never use it to, for example, write an essay for me, but I might use it to explain a concept. Like the other day, I was doing work with XL, and I didn’t understand what the question was asking. I copied the question into chat GPT and told it how I would answer the question and it politely told me I was incorrect and how to fix my mistake step-by-step. so yeah, it can be really helpful in the classroom if you use it properly and responsibly.

Here's another solution: make the students write their essays during class time, in person, closed book, closed phone. Better yet: communicate to them that it's impossible to think on their own unless they can structure ideas and express from themselves what they mean.

Average university research papers requires a lot of prep work and has minimum 15-30 sources and references, how are you going to reference closed book? And if you give the question before hand, students can still memorize all the main points from ChatGPT and regurgitate it in the classroom. There is no simple solution around this, ChatGPT and AI is about to fundamentally change the value of our creativity, labour, and individual economic output.

During class time? When would they have time to research? Do they now have to memorise their studies before going into class and writing very very rushed essays? All of these solutions are sub optimal. Let’s face it chat gpt is destroying students ability to form string coherent ideas and sentences

    Technical creativity is one thing.
Human creativity allows for those wonderful "accidents" and an essence that will never be duplicated by anything other than human being.
Like corporations, technology is NOT people, too.

is this FINALLY the end of homework?! In class hand written essays are an easy fix! which is more important to the modern workplace, a 15 pg 'research' paper on The Catcher in the Rye or an ability to make an informed response within 50 minutes?
