Young Sheldon Season 5 Episode 8
Young Sheldon is an American comedy television series on CBS created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. The series is a spin-off prequel to The Big Bang Theory and begins with the character Sheldon Cooper at the age of nine, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school. Iain Armitage stars as young Sheldon, alongside Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, and Annie Potts. Jim Parsons, who portrays the adult Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, narrates the series and serves as an executive producer.
Georgie literally outplaying and outsmarting his parents is pure gold
Georgie is smart, so is Missy. Unfortunately Mary seems to be that kind of parent who only see grades and nothing else matters. If you don't ace at school you're just dumb. So she's basically worshipping Sheldon and her other kids are just inconvenience.
How did he outsmart George?
Any children has the duty to be smarter than their parents.

That and how she always favored Sheldon, but never believed in Georgie or Missy.

The actress playing Mary is really really REALLY good at giving the crazy-eyes.

Yep, she really knows how to act like a religious crazy lady, and her mom has the same actoral quality in The Big Bang Theory.
She's very talented.
@Christopher Bingham Again; man, I love your commenting. Keep doing it, please.
It’s actually really nice how george and Georgie started to bond. It’s such a shame they couldn’t have done that more often
It's kinda a thing, whenever a father finally takes his hands off his children's decisions and it's no longer his thing, a relationship heals more often than not. They become a support role, to be there when their decisions come back to bite.
Every one in the family has great chemistry and they all bond together nicely when the situation is right, problem is the situation is never right
Well, they will bond even more after SPOILER Georgie gets Mandy pregnant

"Let him make his own mistakes" that is actually some really good parenting thing
The actress who plays Mary does an excellent job of portraying a younger version of Mary from the Big Bang Theory. When she was yelling at George she used an eerily similar face expression that Laurie Metcalf used.

Gambling can be dangerously addictive so mary isnt all wrong that she does want to stop it. Georgy isnt wrong either saying its not her business what people do with their money. Thats what makes this episode so good. Neighter are 100% wrong and thats just good writing
So are alcohol and tobacco but it wouldn't be a moral problem if Georgie worked at a store where those are sold.
@@Javitomanzano I think gambling in some ways can be worse and easier to spiral someone down the wrong way.
If you see someone is drunk and clearly has had too much or is not the appropriate age, then you can refuse service to them because otherwise you are morally culpable for potentially harming that person's liver forever. Perhaps even killing them. Not personally but you may feel like you indirectly did.
Gambling gives you hits of dopamine and relies on drawing you into spend more money and gambling places don't ask you your limit exactly to then get you to stop and not bankrupt yourself. No, there is no limit on gambling consumption because it's so absorbing and people easily find themselves feeling a false sense of achievement or edge of closeness and it becomes a vicious cycle.
Some people are more susceptible to the vicious draw of gambling addiction. Unlike with Alcohol, there is no stop button and the employees who run the gambling don't care about your financial situation. They only want your money. With bartenders or shop owners they have a degree of control over your intake. Not full so alcoholism is still possible and dangerous, but there are a few... buffers to it shall we say.
But yeah, Georgie is right that you cannot control how others spend their money.
must be white trying to fit in racial profiling, saying neighter instead of neither
@@JustAnotherPerson4U Gambling, you run the risk of addicts believing if they play one more time they will make a full recovery and then some (chasing losses). You don't hear alcoholics saying: if I drink one more time, my liver will heal instantly.
Since Young Sheldon doesn't have a lot of time per episode, all they do is make small, clever, silly, individual statements from both sides to avoid blatantly picking sides or boring the audience with debate details.
When Missy brought up the problem of evil (watching 10 commandments), they left the viewers to answer the question for themselves.
Which is likely what frustrated Mary so much. She couldn't really deny his logic. So while it is illegal and maybe morally wrong, it's also the choice of the gamblers to spend. So her only recourse is to call the cops on her mother and son if she wants to stop it, lol!
"Not that one, we call it the Homewrecker" 😂
I love how even though EVERYONE is telling her she's in the wrong she won't listen and tries to force EVERYONE to do it her way.
I can see her point though, gambling can hurt some people. Her character makes sense and their reaction makes sense.
@@MrSirFluffy The point everyone makes about her character is that it's okay to have your beliefs. It's not okay to force your beliefs on everyone else. Agree. Much better.
With all due respect, but I agree with georgie. He is not a normal teenager who is "sucessful" as his brother. Yet, he sure knows how to live on his own when it comes to business. Might as well. "Its not my bussiness what people do with their money and it ain't your business either so butt out!" He is also right, by people coming to gambling out of their own free will and since he is not in school he is working with a bussiness where everyone is all in an understanding. Its his choice that he is aware of, so Mary truly doesn't have any real right to force Georgie to stop based on "I'm your mother I know Whats whats right and you don't know anything" plus, on top of all that he is living by his fathers rules on staying and paying at the very minimum.
Also if you include current events, nixing out the Nobel prize (which honestly means nothing unless ya count the million dollars that go with it) Georgie is more successful than Sheldon, guy runs a Tire empire that goes across all of Texas, his business has got to be worth millions and he’s at the front of it.
@@kevindolan9 "the Nobel means nothing" is probably the biggest joke I've ever heard 😂. Probably its meaning is incomprehensible to an average person like you, but the works done by Nobel laureates might have saved millions of people. And honestly, do you really think a few millions are anything to a Nobel prize winner? The one million dollar prize is just the beginning. People paid famous researchers to give talks, consult on projects, even just borrow their names. Many tenured professors in my field have raised hundred of millions dollar for their research. People in Silicon Valley are willing to write million-dollar check for Stanford PhD students for start-ups, let alone a Nobel laureates. I'm sure that Sheldon will have a much more comfortable life than Georgie, even though his net worth might be less (if he wants, Sheldon can exceed Georgie anytime, but a lot people prefer to work on research instead of managing an entrepreneurship).
@B Well he is still under their roof. Until that ends and he is able to say "butt out or i wont talk to you anymore" (and mean it) His parents will still feel empowered to say what they want, when they want.

George definitely has more common sense than Mary, and good for Georgie for telling Mary to butt out.
Yeah finally put in her place since she goes crazy all the time
@B Nah, Motherhood is hard everywhere when the Mother coddles ones of her children while being a religious fanatic. Mary sees nothing but Sheldon, the older they get the more she coddles him, while the more Georgie and Missy are left to their own they go astray and start finding acceptance in other things, G and M can't even talk about their problems to her without getting dragged into a religious lecture or lesson Leonards mother in TBBT was right "Read a new book woman". Just look how they turned out, Sheldon, a grown man-child, scared of everything new, paranoid, egotistical knowitall and so on.
Geogie, happy, successful owner of his own chain of stores, has one of the best running businesses around, is basically living his life. This is because of George encouraging him to find himself, he didn't overly force Geogie to study and basically told him to do what he loved and boy is he doing it.
Missy got the short end of the stick, when they were young, she got the least attention as, she missed her chances in life and wasn't really able to do anything with herself, if anything things only got worse for the poor girl after George passed away as from what we know, Mary doubled down on sheltering and coddling Sheldon while Geogie had to stand up and take care of them all, Missy was mostly left to herself.
Wtf she was protecting her son
Finally someone put her in her place

Oh man, some of the new machines at these gamerooms you can easily win over $800 as long as you put $200-$500 in. Just keep your bets high and you’ll always walk out ahead. The ones that put in money and lose are the small betting people, 50¢ bets are cheap but you usually lose unless you hit the major prize which isn’t probable.
Knight PaulMan it works sometimes. People are usually afraid to play that way though. And many people just can’t afford to risk that much money. I’m in Illinois, we have small slot rooms everywhere. $4 max bet but all the way down to 30 or 40 cents minimum bet, depending on the game. I have gotten down, put a couple more hundred in, upped to max bet and got a good win and came out ahead many times.
Yes gambling does destroy lives, but that's not what the government cares about. The government just bans it because it's hard to tax unless you're a big casino corporation.
True, I mean hell most states have a state run lottery which is literally just gambling
I like how when Mary is trying to promote Georgie's Laundromat with "Jesus washes away your sins and will wash away your stains" Georgie just rolls his eyes and hates the suggestion, but when she complains to MeeMaw and calls the gambling room a "Den of Sin," MeeMaw actually loves her idea behind the name. xD
Mary should have called the police and told them there was a gambling room in the back if she had an issue.
Then meemaw and Georgie would never speak to her again.

So full disclosure: I would need to catch up on the show to get a full understanding of everyone's character. With that being said, it seems Mary tends to get a lot of criticism from dedicated viewers. I can see where y'all are coming from as it does seem that Mary doesn't react well to change she perceives as negative. However, I sympathize with Mary because I've known versions of Mary all my life. By that I mean very spiritual women who live and breathe by the Bible. People can live how they want but I know that taking spirituality that serious can cause this religious anxiety. There's a popular idea that it's the jobs of Christians to "save" everyone even if it means butting into people's business. Basically, I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up having a break down in a future episode. It doesn't seem like she knows how to chill out and let go of control. I will say though that she isn't wrong to be scared of what could happen should the police bust the gambling room (a potential future episode maybe?).
There was an episode she questioned her faith. A teenage girl died and she did have a breakdown. Sheldon actually had to talk to her saying there is always the possibility of a God and he will believe in that statistic. It was a good episode

Thats hilarious
My former friend has a problem when she goes gambling, she won $600 and had been late on rent by $300 and had issues with some bills, she could of used the money but kept gambling until she lost everything but $5.00
In many ways the best thing that can happen to someone gambling for the first time is to lose. Not so bad that it destroys them, but bad enough that it hurts (Like a month of eating ramen noodles, having to sell a prized possession to cover the rent, having to work a 2nd job on your days off, etc.). Often that stops them from doing it again. Seems like many who win the first time get such a rush from it, that they want to chase that feeling and because they won once they feel like they will get even the next time or get ahead, and usually they just get deeper and deeper in the hole.
