    First, love your channel. It’s very informative. I disagree with the expense on the walabot diy 2. I have a Bosch GMS 120 that scans perfectly and identifies wood, metal, and wiring. I only paid $82.00 on Amazon after reading reviews on popular mechanics. I cannot complain now, I have hit the center of the studs every time with Bosch.

    Great video! Gives me a much better idea. What about lath and plaster walls? They are much thicker and trickier. How does this device work on them? Finding studs with guyroc is pretty easy with a typical stud finder but not so with laugh and plaster.

      Thanks for watching! You raise a great question. Based on what I’ve read, the Walabot DIY2 is meant for drywall. I have not tested it on lath and plaster. HOWEVER, I do know that the Walabot DIYX DOES work on both drywall and lath and plaster.
      I hope this helps!

    Do you think the Walabot can accurately scan behind V-groove board? I have a living room paneled in random V-groove board which appears to be original to my 1947 house, but I'm not sure. In one corner I want to put up a floor-to-ceiling built-in bookcase that I've designed to match an original built-in bookcase in another corner of the living room. For stylistic reasons, the shelves' fixed supports would need to be fastened directly to a wall in the same manner that the original bookcase is. However, the supports of the original bookcase are fastened into an exterior wall. The bookcase that I want to put up will be fastened to an interior wall (my kitchen is on the other side of the wall). My regular stud finder (which does have an option for detecting wiring) gives me mixed readings in certain areas. There is an electrical receptacle 7 inches in front of the planned bookcase location, and on the other side of the wall, there's an electrical receptacle about 3-4 feet up that my refrigerator plugs into. Needless to say, I don't want drill or nail or screw into wiring. Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

    Thanks for the review. Just curious, I need to demo a concrete floor in the laundry room to install a floor drain. Problem is that it is a post-tension slab. Can the Walabot find the tension cables in a concrete slab? What do you think? And what about PEX piping? Probably not!

    • @ReluctantDIYers

      Hey Tom, thanks for watching! I can't speak to the device's ability to find tension cables within a concrete slab (and I unfortunately don't have a way to test that easily for you), but I can confirm that the Walabot accurately detects PEX behind drywall. I read through the comments and I’m curious why you would call an unboxing and first use a review?
    I recently received my diy2 and am seriously considering returning it. I clicked on your review to show me what I was missing in my first try with the unit. Essentially I have not missed anything…
    Diy2 needs better sliders/felt to make contact with wallboard and glide without scratching paint. The product does not live up to advertising… now when I watch the ads I see how they tricked me…
    Next test is to put a mouse in my wall and see if I have confidence that this thing can “see” it.

      I’m so sorry you feel this way. I’ve used mine on countless drywall surfaces (painted, multi texture, etc) with great success and no scratches. My textured wall tests actually scratched my Walabot. LOL!

    Great video! I wonder has anyone tried to use this on wood floors? I have some annoying squeaking to repair but really no way to accurately locate the joists. 5/8 oak flooring on top of 3/4 PW then joists. If I get it wrong I'll end up with a bunch of ugly filled holes in the floor. If this works on thick wood of the sort I described I'd gladly pay the asking price.

    • @ReluctantDIYers
      @ReluctantDIYers  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you for watching and reaching out with your question! The DIY2 is designed specifically for drywall so I do not believe it would work on wood flooring, given the difference in material density and thickness. I wish I had a better answer for you.

    Is it really showing a "Heat Map"? You said that it shows heat. You may want to clarify this with the manufacturer. It is probably more related to a scatter map of signal strength. The software can differentiate a flat surface such as a stud and a round surface such as a pipe by what is happening at the edges of the object and/or the edges of the signal.

    • @ReluctantDIYers
      @ReluctantDIYers  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment! When I say heat map, I’m speaking figuratively based on the color variations within the expert mode screen readout. In reality, it is a representation of what the devices sensor is detecting.

      Hey Nirupa, thank you for reaching out and I'm sorry if that water pipe test wasn't clear in the video. In the second wall test that was done, there is a bathroom sink just on the other side. During the scan, there was a wall stud followed by a water pipe just to the right of it. Additionally, I've run other tests (not recorded) in areas of the house where I know there are water pipes and it has successfully found all of those pipes. I hope this helps. Have a great day!

      Also, I recorded another video comparing a standard stud finder to the Walabot and we detect a traditionally copper water line in a controlled environment just to show what it looks like. You might want to check out that video.

    I disagree. It is not worth the expend at all. Now this glorified mediocre stud finder at best cost over $200.00 it gets confused easily on thicker walls and forget about plaster or stucco on outside walls; for its price and what it does it definitely not worth it. I got mine yesterday fast from Amazon and it is ready today to go back; I suspected I should not get it but wanted to "feel" it for myself. If it was less than $150.00 maybe or if at this price will show external walls I would be ok with it but it does not.

Luckily the affirmity hires at Amazon "lost" this before it should make it's way too me (like my tv, blu Ray player, and funnily enough, my surveillance cameras. I'm done with Chinese gimmick products and companies who support them. I'll just use a $5 stuff finder. Those seem to be at 82% accuracy.

      No. It broadcasts its own WIFI signal and that’s how your phone connects to it. You don’t need to have a WIFI network available for it to work. That’s just the communication protocol that’s it uses to talk to the app on your phone.

      I have to be honest, initially thought this was a sponsored video which you weren’t disclosing… but as I read all of your replies in the comments (including confirmation that you bought the unit yourself vs. were sent a free test unit) - that notion has been dispelled pretty well. Internet has made us cynical lol, I think myself and the original commenter had forgotten that sometimes people genuinely like products 😂

      @iterativegrowth Thanks for this reply, and I totally get where you’re coming from. This video and my comparison video after it were definitely not sponsored. I genuinely live my Walabot and definitely purchased it myself.
      After posting these videos, Walabot reached out to me and I have done work with them since, but all of this stemmed from my joy of using their product.
      Sadly, I have not done the “year later” video yet. My schedule is the biggest challenge at the moment. Once I finish school in December, my frequency of posting will increase by a lot. I will plan to revisit this video in an unsponsored fashion. :-)

    An actual trades person here. Not worth the spend. Ten times more in price for something that does only a little better than a $30 stud finder. The WiFi connection is the deal breaker. We simply do not have WiFi everywhere we work. The sales pitch is dead and here is what buries it. Cheap stud finder suggests a stud is about here. A couple of knocks around “here” confirms it. One screw into the wall proves it. A Hole or two left from testing are not a problem because what you are hanging will cover them. Cabinets for example.
    There. You just saved $150 to $200 dollars. But if you need a quick tax deduction…………….
