- This PV was brought to us because of "poor steering": which was an understatement, it felt like driving a Fordson Major. In fact it transpired that both kingpins had almost seized.
This is a bizarre failure for kingpins, the normal problem is worn bushes and excessive play.
PV544
Christ the owner must be built like a viking to operate that motor! 💪
Nice one. 😂😂😂
It is time to rebuild the suspension in my PV544. I look forward to watching your other videos in advance.
Eeeek! What more can I say!
...once sorted, the owner might think you installed power steering...
...don't get me started on electric power steering!
@@amazoncars ...I hope your position is like mine, that power steering is completely unnecessary on these cars...keep tire pressure up, DON'T fit anything fatter than 70Series rubber, and NEVER steer while not moving...with the slightest rolling motion, MUCH less steering effort will be required!
I also meant to ask...don't kinp pins have a greasing point(s)...and were these never maintained, or were king pin bushings not reamed to fit?? Cheers
@@ronplucksstrings7112 Absolutely right! Although we use 185/65's when competing, but anything fatter than that simply kills the car's handling and it becomes a dog.
The whole PV front suspension has 13 greasepoints, 4 of which are the kingpins. I suspect that it was indeed a case of not having been greased in a long time, then the bush surface gets damaged and they seize up. Still, it is unusual to be seized rather than sloppy...
