Fish and chips every Friday growing up for me but chips were never the same once they banned the newspaper wrap 😂.
Enjoyed both your histories so far. I always love hearing about the history of nursery rhymes, I’m sure a lot of them are from Victorian times. My great Aunt used to sing them to me over 60 years ago now. I bet I’ve forgotten more than I can remember. She was a proper Victorian even down to her bloomers. 😊

A popular thing for sure! Have some good subjects on the way, also speaking to the pankhurst centre in Manchester who are allowing me access. So that will be good.
Victorians had a lot right.. plenty wrong though 😂

Growing up as a Catholic, we used to refrain from eating meat on a Friday, due to good Friday. therefore only eating fish on Fridays. School dinners were always fish and chips. 😮
    Very interesting.
Thanks for this documentary on fish and chips.

Great documentary! We do order the occasional fish and chips here in Michigan, USA but it’s certainly not what we enjoyed on our recent trip to the UK/Ireland. I like a dash of hot sauce or tartar sauce with the fish and prefer brown gravy 😳 with the fries (chips) but I have been known to splash a bit of wine vinegar on the fries from time to time. Now, just to mix it up, I will absolutely dump some ketchup on that plate for fry dipping. lol, gotta love the ketchup shoutout though in your vlog.

Not for me no Tartar sauce or curry sauce. I like Cod OR Haddock with Chips & Mushy Peas. Proper brewed vinegar like Sarsons not that non brewed stuff & Salt. I remember Remember going in chippy's in the 60s as a kid it seemed much better than now The chips seemed more crispy not soggy & fish crispy coated tasted better when fried back then. Must be these modern Oils used now instead of beef dripping

One day I will make the pilgrimage to the UK and have some true fish and chips. For now, I will enjoy fresh Calabash fried fish from the coast of North Carolina with hush puppies. I plan to visit my ancestral home in County Cork as well. Also, a fluffy baked potato would be great as a side with fried cod. Must be my Irish blood, because I can eat potatoes any way but raw. Each St. Patrick’s day (also my son’s middle name) I make shepherds pie (with lamb!) or cottage pie and a side of bubble and squeak. The farts afterwards are horrible.
