- Calling all cars, calling all cars, be on the lookout for Mark Weiss in his gnarly cool retired California Highway Patrol Car! This is a 1972 Dodge Polara C-Body Mopar that ran the highways of California for the Police department for many years. This is a true ex CHP pursuit car with the big 440 V8. I ran into Mark during the 2019 Adirondack Nationals, on the weekend of September 5th, 2019. Check it out and I hope you enjoy the scenic footage of Lake George Village and various Muscle Cars, Mopars and others. Thanks for your Like, Share, and Subscription to the Samspace81 classic car channel.

Love these Police Polaras. Saw a number of ghost (white) versions rumbling behind me back in the day. Struck fear every time.
Big bears, good stuff
In 1972 I got my license. I was sitting at a light when a CHP Polara rumbled up next to me in the next lane. I think it had the 440 and I clearly heard a cam upgrade. It loped and shook at the light and the hood was vibrating. They had to upgrade the patrol cars to keep up with the muscle cars of the era. Fun times, unless he was behind you. :)
Great stuff, thanks so much for sharing that story
My first car was 74 javelin. 401. 4 speed. I never raced the cops. Not worth the usual outcome
Them days you had someting that moved the cops did too 🙂
In Florida, these cars with the U code 440 engine had a dual-inlet (snorkel) orange air cleaner. My neighbor's dad was an FHP sergeant and drove a couple different 72 Polara's just like this.
Nice, thanks for sharing that Dave
Mark shows a lot of pride in his work, and rightfully so.
Great job on that car !
So glad you enjoyed the video Glenn, thanks for following Samspace81
I was driving home from LI in an '82 Plymouth Champ.I hadn't put my inspection sticker on, but I had it. Went through the toll booth at the Throgs Neck Bridge, and passed a brown 4-door MoPar with two TBTA cops in it about 100 feet after. I was just getting into 3rd gear when my rear view mirror was full of that MoPar. They'd caught up to me in less than a 1/4 mile.
Great story 👏 👍 👮♂️ 🚔
can never forget the sound of the thermo quad opening and feeding the big 440ci intercepter. thanks fellaz,,,
100 I can hear that Carter opening the back barrels now
I still have my Dad's old 1973 Dodge Polara California Highway patrol car number matching car with a 440Police Interceptor 100% all original.
Trucks. Cars. Boats. A car show on city streets. A WONDERFUL visit to the Adirondacks with this video! The polara is a timepiece and could probably still kick ass on the streets! Thank you samspace81 for another great video!
Much appreciated, that makes me feel good. I really put my heart into this one. Great little trip with some setbacks, but beautiful footage. Thanks again for your continued viewership & comments.
One of the little league Dads was a CHP Officer, showed up to quite a few ballgames riding in that/those,and at speeds we won't talk about!
Thanks for sharing, super cool
This car will forever be; the all American cop car.
Yes for sure 💯
Best example of a ex CHP car I have seen. I had one in '77 , same exact car, but nothing like this one. That 440 police interceptor would really move.
Great stuff Steve. Mark is a legend in these parts
Mark did a beautiful job restoring that police car. It would be so cool to have a retired CHP officer sit in that car or take it for a ride and have him reminisce about his years as a CHP officer.
that would be awesome
That's a BADASS '72 Dodge Polara CHP car!!! I saw it a Carlisle Mopar show years ago!!! I have a '72 Plymouth Fury 3 Police Pursuit car, I'm turning this car into an unmarked cop car!!!
Sweet! Mark would love to chat. Appreciate you watching - SAM
I LOVE IT MARK AWESOME Blast from the past!
Super cool nice guy, there was plenty of New York hospitality there. Appreciate you following Samspace81 Gene! I'm sure he will see this.
If I ever go to jail, that’s the paddy wagon I wanna be arrested in lol
Right?! Arrest me and swing by the car show first lol thanks for watching Samspace81
Nice car I love Mopars
Hi John, me too. Mark did a great job with this car
Very cool. I love those old Polara police cars especially a slick top pursuit car like this one. Looks just like the one in dirty Mary crazy Larry
Man me too!
Top end? unlimited
Beauty Police car's. This time greetings from the Netherlands, not from Poland.
Love it, happy to have you as a viewer
Great video thanks Sam
That was a fun one to put together, what an epic trip. Thanks my friend for watching.
What a rare body style, reminds me of the TV show "Chips" that polara is super clean, I wish he would have cranked her up...🤗🚘
Yes Absolutely. I know it man, better luck on the next interview LOL At least I got moving footage of it. Would have liked a nice test drive, etc. So much going on that weekend. Thanks Andy for watching! He was such a nice man too - SAM
Really nice car! He did an awesome job with it. Not a criticism, but I do not recall the CHP using the Fireball dash light. It does look cool, though.
Did YT recommend this video? Cool to see increased traffic lately & appreciate you watching
Beautiful car
Appreciate you watching 👀
Nice car
My friend Marks car, it really is. Great dude too. Thanks Jeff for watching
I’ve lived in upstate ny all my life and visited lake George a few times and never knew there were car shows
I only knew about this show from a RUclips commentator, I ended up going a month later. It's a wonderful show
You don't see those cars anymore they were all over the big screens in the 70's and 80's but had to come by now days just like the 73 Polara
Yes! So much fun talking with him
One day, one day.
Thanks 4 watching
Thanks, Sam. She is sweet!
It really was and a lot of pride in ownership there. Thanks so much for watching, Steve
Um verdadeiro exemplar essa viatura,parabens...
Glad you enjoyed this classic police car, Rangel. Thanks for following Samspace81
My cousin was being chased b an Okla. HWP just like this one, in 1972. While giving him a tour of the dirt roads in Grady Co. Okla. The HWP lost it and rolled. My cousin had to buy the car. $5000 was the price back in the day. Today it's closer to $105,000...
Wow what a story, thanks for sharing
Great cop cars!
Love old cop cars! Thanks for watching, RedRecordings
@@samspace81 You're welcome! I am building on a few cars/rat rods and one of them is a custom police car! Channels like yours serve the car community well!
This thing shames my Crown Vic
He did a great job and does a great job maintaining
What is an engine control restrictor never heard of that before
Superbe
:-)
Really is
7:45 two things wrong here . #1 The CHP used electronic sirens in 72, and never had a Kojak light inside the car
Interesting, thanks for the insightful comment
In them days the troopers had power too 😉
For real, great car & cool owner
Can you please name this siren at 7:40
Maybe the owner car. Thanks for watching Samspace81
There was no 2 barrel 440....... Ever......... T code would be 4 barrel same as U code.
Did not know that, confirmed you are correct thanks
And the V Code was the 440-6 barrel
Not original. FAIL!
Restored to how it looked brand new after prepped for California Highway Patrol duty circa 1972, the real deal :)
Стив Скотт that looks real to me. You can see some items that were specific to cars ordered by the CHP
samspace81 it all looked correct except for the red light on the front dash. They only had the red drivers side spotlight for front pursuit lights.
I wish he could have gotten a copy of the window sticker and build sheet. Or the fender tag. I don't remember ANY CHP with factory A/C though.
