EXT. LOADING AREA - SCHOOL - DAY
The goth kids are hanging out as usual, smoking cigarettes and listening to goth music on a boom box. The girl is writing poetry.
Stan comes walking up with his hands in his pockets.
STAN
Hey guys. Uh... You guys know how to dance, right?
GOTH KID 2
Of COURSE we know how to dance.
STAN
Cool, because there's this competition on Saturday, and I have to find the very best dancers in South Park to be on my crew. My friends can't do it because they suck ass so, will you be in my dance troop?
GOTH KID 1
Dance troupe?! PLEASE.

We don't dance like those Britney and Justin wanna bes at school.

Yeah. The only COOL way to dance is to keep your hands at your sides at your eyes looking at the ground. Then every three seconds you take a drag on your cigarette.
The music on the boom box inexplicably gets louder as we watch the kid do his 'Goth Dance'.
His dance is just what he explained. He stays looking at the ground while keeping his hands at his sides and takes a drag on his cigarette every three seconds.
Now the Goth kids all start dancing the exact same way.
STAN
Okay, that'll work fine! Listen, there's a dance competition this Saturday and I need good dancers so I don't get served.
The kids all stop dancing and go back to their seated positions with their cigarettes.
GOTH KID 1
No way.
(hair in face)
Dancing is something you do ALONE, in your room at three in the morning.
STAN
PLEASE you guys, our whole town's reputation is at stake! Won't ANY of you do it.
GOTH KID 1
I'M not doing it.

I'm SUCH a non-conformist, that I'm not going to conform with the rest of YOU. Okay I'll do it.
STAN
Great!
The tall lanky goth kid walks off with Stan. The other goth kids just sit there

The expression is ‘Hats off’ it’s the same level of respect that is expected for your countries flag or the mourning of a loved one.
You wouldn’t wear your ball cap to a funeral and you’d take it off for the anthem.

the fact that this is accurate to a real gothic dance is super cool. trey and matt didn't have to add in actual [and fairly common] gothic choreography but they. did. i love that touch so much HEAVY sigh.

In one of their episode commentaries they mentioned going out of their way to lookup modern goth culture to update their knowledge only to find the scene was pretty much the same. Even the music was the same, to the point that a lot of the Goth bands from the 90's are *still* the go-to songs for the subculture. 😅

I love how they had a previous friendship and history from "Raisins" and the show continuity preserves that in subsequent interactions with Stan and the goths
From what I remember this episode was before the raisins one. This was the dancing one where butters tap danced and killed a kid. That was like, pre season 8. The raisins thing was like 10-14 I believe
but during the console war thing he (Stan) was the one who went to them and eventually got them to join his side

@@nuclearcatbaby1131 There does seem to be a notable correlation between fat chicks and goth chicks. It's probably to do with low self-esteem. I guess the only question is which is the cause and which is the effect? Then again I've known some goth/alt chicks who expressed their self-loathing through bulimia or just plain starvation. It's still unhealthy, but it's doesn't make them fat. Best way to be is to love your body, but hate the world. Or hate your body too, whatev.
Firkle isn't hardcore goth. Maybe he was, that time when the Dark Lord Cthulhu had arisen, but are we forgetting that he sold his brothers out to the emos? At least Henrietta's becoming emo was because she was brainwashed by a plant, and totally not because she just did it on her own or anything.
At the very least, he deserves props for realising the futility of life and inherent wretchedness of humanity at such a young age. Most kids don't discover that until early adolescence.
