Simple way to avoid being robbed is by taking a local friend with you, someone who is from Tanzania (or whatever country) who you trust. And let them speak for you. Let them get these dudes straight when they try to haggle you.

Don't just accept the price they throw at you negotiate. At the end of the day he'd rather sell the food than throw it away. Cheers for the hustle though!
