Love your channel Steve. Very informative. Interesting videos. Straight to the point of the video without waffling on. You find a great balance of the subject with a bit of conversation and information. Hope you keep up the fantastic content for the rum lovers of this world. ☺
Great video, I appreciate the rum conversation and insights. OFTD is a great overproof mixer, but for Zombies and Jet Pilots and the like, I think the best overproof rum is Lemon Hart 151, or if you can't find that one, Hamilton 151. For me, Appleton 8 or 12 are the best overall mixing rums and one or both is a must have. Where I am on the US East Coast, you can get the LH 151 and the Hamilton 151 for around $30 to $35 per. Appleton 8 is around $32 to $35 and Apple 12 is around $40 to $43.
I’m gonna have to do my best to get some Lemon Hart over here. And Hamilton. Just to see all the US Hype. And how different Pussers 151 is. As let’s be honest, they’re all Guyana 151. Just different blends of Still.
Hello Steve. There is the bottler Mézan which offers quality rums without additions or cold filtration. There is the Jamaican XO and Panama Chiquiri which are under 50€ and very good. You made me want to taste OFTD and Worthy Park, for the cocktails it's going to be great! Cheers 🍸

Another ace video Steve, similar to your best cocktail rum video which, as a newbie, I also loved. Only have 2 of your final selection in the house so will need to work on that!
@@StevetheBarmanUK Very true, at $48. 95 I have no intention of using it for cocktails. On that same trip to the liquor store I also bought 4 other other (cheaper) rums as well. Bumbu standard, Plantation 5 Year Old Artisanal Rum, Cruzan Dark Rum and Don Q 151, all told it was just $150 dollars worth. Can't wait for more of your videos that are centered around the divine scriptures of the great Smuggler's Cove tiki cocktail book. I have a copy myself.👍
Love how excitedly you talk about rums! You might be missing a category, 151 rums. Your overproof could have been Navy strength? But anyway, rums that i would recommend are Hamilton Jamaican Pot still black or Gold, Lemon Hart 151, Hamilton 86 as all rounder. And I do agree with your taste on Plantation rums, those that I have, love them all.
Ha, nah the OP is the same thing. Anything over 100 proof is Overproof. But I get your point. However don’t forget OFTD is 69%. I do have a couple of 151s. The main one being Pussers. But they’re just not as good as the OFTD. Would love to try Lemon Hart and Hamiltons…they’re just not imported to the UK unfortunately. Cheers for watching though.

Ha, So my Membership knew about this, but I omitted it on purpose, just to see how many people actually kicked off about not having S&C. I'm actually surprised at how few so far! It's a great Rum for Cocktails...BUT, i do stand by my list. That may change in the 2023 version though!
Really enjoy the channel Steve, I have been a long time mostly cheap rum drinker and your videos are helping me get into good rums. One rum I have not seen in your videos that I would like to get your take on is the Ron Zacapa Centenario 23. I had a buddy bring me a bottle direct from Guatemala a few years ago and it was great, wonder what you would think about it.
Thanks for the love. Yeah RZ23 to be fair is something i should feature. It is over £50...and also to be fair...it's about £15/20 overpriced for what it is. Its very misleading Rum. People think it's 23yo and it's not. I'm merely solera aged. It should be around the £35 mark. Its really decent, just not £50. They've changed the labels now because they had to, but for years they always tried to claim it was a 23yo. If Rums have an age statement, it should always reflect the youngest Rum in the bottle. With solera, yes you may have a small part that is 23yo. But it'll also have 1-5yo rums too...in fact probs the majority of the Blend.
Have you had a chance to try the Ten to One line of rums? I like their white rum quite a bit. Also, Probitas (Veritas in some markets) is a stellar lightly aged white rum. So… there is that. Much thx for all this great information and your enthusiasm!
No, unless I'm having a mental block, I don't think I've ever heard of Ten to One. And after a quick Google...yeah deffo not heard of them. Seems like a US Company, using someone like E&A Schear to buy and blend Rums for them. If they make it UK way, I'll keep an eye out.
I have a question is that back bar your personal bar or where you work I just built a 1950s Tiki Bar in my basement I had a party last month my friend almost had a heart attack when he counted 120 bottles on my bar back told him well I have a spirit for everyone 95% of its rum thank you for your videos I enjoy them keep up the good work
I’d actually not include them here cos Smugglers doesn’t even use a Spiced Category. I added that in. So Flavoured & Botanical (again that can be split into Flavoured Botanical, Spiced Botanical and Botanical) would actually be 4 more categories.
I would have loved to see an Appleton in there (my passion brand if you will), but then again a lot of rums in your line-up I haven't tried yet so who knows, my opinion might change in the future. Great video Steve, take care, cheers!
It's on the card, but I can never settle on the angle...as I need a "UK" version of it too... and in all honesty, on this Yellow Channel... my Audience is mainly US...and there's a lot of US rums that should be here, that we simply don't get in the UK. Cruzan, Denizen, Hamilton for starters!

I use the Pussers spiced and the Worthy Park 109 in that rum espresso Martini video you put up aaaaaaaages ago. Changed my life that cocktail and ruined vodka for me 😂
Spiced: (not my category but when I use one it’s North American Kraken or Sailor Jerry) Pot Still Lightly Aged: Smith and Cross I guess. I don’t have access to Rum Bar. Pot Still Aged: I like Xaymaca here. Maybe you just didn’t consider it aged enough. It’s basically 3-5 years in wood though. Blended Lightly Aged: I love Plantation 3 Star. No access to Chairman’s sadly. Blended Aged: (impossible to pick a favourite but I will go ED12 or A12 probably - like the Worthy Park pick earlier, P XO is out of the set price range you assigned) - I should say you put my two picks into long aged unlike the SC book Blended long aged - I don’t own one from the book though I sometimes get ED15. I like ED12 better though. Column lightly aged - FdC4 (but I would love to try that Ron Cubay) Column still aged - really into the Angostura 7 right now honestly, which I picked up from one of your blinds videos (I also think Bacardi 8 is underrated by RumTube tbh) Column still long aged: don’t own a single one but I want that Brugal 1888 (which SC puts in “aged” rather than “long aged”) Black: desperate to get a Hamilton 86 and/or Coruba when i get to the States next. Making do with Gosling’s Black Seal for now. Easy to get Newfoundland Screech in Canada but I disagree with SC putting it in this category I guess. It’s not honestly that dark. Overproof: W&N is what I like here I guess but really I want to pick up OFTD. Mixing: A8 is a great mixer for me. No access to Chairman’s. I also love some earlier mentions as a mixer btw (Bac8 and Ango7)
