  • This tree is approximately 35 years old and was an original planting at the time of the home construction. Over the years I have given this tree quite a few haircuts but last year I let it go natural. Going into Spring it was obvious that a fresh haircut was needed. Check out the twisted trunk which I find to be the trees best feature.

Thanks for your comment. Pruning unique trees is always a little scary. I killed a Japanese Maple a few years back after getting carried away with the pruners.

Thanks for the insight of how this tree could look, I got one of these in my front yard and didn't know what to do with it. You might have just saved me from chopping it down.

Your welcome. My hope is that I share content that helps others. These trees are pretty cool looking in the landscape so I hope you can prune it and enjoy it in your yard.

You did a great job at pruning the tree to show off the trunk, but I prefer the weeping messy look, maybe would have given it a trim instead of a buzz cut 😊 Thanks for sharing.

I don't disagree with you on the messy look. Nice thing with this tree is that it will grow back messy again so next pruning job will take a reshape.
