I don't see whats so "unorthodox" as some other videos have called his methods of winning. He's giving the viewers a rush, he's stepping up the game, and truly challenging the focus of his fellow player's minds. This IS a game of mental skill.
Love the way this guy played the game. He found an edge and he exploited it to the max. The fact that no one else has taken a similar approach just shows how little society as a whole recognizes the importance of game theory and strategy in every possible game you could play. It's not just about knowing your stuff, but playing the game in a strategic way that obstructs your opponents.
Funny how people compare to counting cards in blackjack, since I think that's pretty accurate, but counting cards isn't cheating. It's just being good at the game at a level beyond the regular. Casinos ban card counting not because it's unfair, but because it's very fair; it simply increases your chances of winning beyond the point where the casino no longer makes money off of you, and they don't want that. People, you are the casinos: Getting mad at the guy expertly playing the game, unwilling to let himself be chained down by the norms of how the average person plays.
Most Jeopardy contestants are good at memorizing and recalling random trivia. This guy however is many levels above that. He knows the answers, but also has the mental aptitude to juggle strategy without having to focus intensely on a single category. As shown in this video, he is also incredibly well-spoken and well-rounded. In other words, he's probably a genius among your average run-of-the-mill Jeopardy player. As for him going viral on the web, this has yet to happen. Once in a while an interesting player like this comes along and it is an incredible opportunity to boost the ratings for primetime. Jeopardy and the networks are placing their bets on Arthur Chu.
But many Champions use an outside-the-box strategy, too. I love Jeopardy all together, and I have no problem with his strategy or any strategy a player may use, as long as it's legal, of Course.
I like this guy, if only our politicians, stockbrokers and corporate managers were as honest and sincere as this guy, the world would be a much better place.
ShantyGaming Most people hate him because of the person that he is not his game strategy. He has an extremely vile character and lacks basic empathy for others.
I think this is great. I'm sorry the regular fans don't like this guy, however I bet the producers love this guy or at least the attention he's getting.
He is discrediting himself a little by emphasizing that it's been done before. I think his instinct there is to deflect blame. However he should give himself credit for discovering a strategy that he can use to his advantage.
regardless of strategies he is still extremely intelligent and knows the answers (thats the game) and if random people tried these "strategies" they would not have the success he has. he is extremely knowledgeable and any of his opponents are welcome to take those "strategies"
I had noticed when David Madden was on that he was one to select clues near the bottom of the board first, and this was done to snag the Daily Doubles. Accordingly, I named this the MADDENing strategy.
I'm glad to see this man bravely standing in favor of women in real need as a true feminist: dailycaller.com/2015/02/18/brave-jeopardy-man-arthur-chu-takes-a-stand-against-helping-abused-porn-star-and-family/
I thought that today's society was getting away from being polite and using etiquette , but apparently those old feelings have returned! IT'S A FREAKING GAME SHOW. YOU PLAY TO WIN, not to be nice and let others win. Plus he's right, he is not the first to do this, it's fact, not "Arthur Chu" says this, it's freaking fact. However it's true that when "Forrest" did this social media was not around so it did not have as many outlets for the media to grab hold of as now. I like him myself he's a cool guy, and one of the best to ever play the game.
I'm not going to spoil anything, but I will say the he'll be far from being the next Ken Jennings, but by the end of his streak, he will be in the Jeopardy! history books.
Haters are almost always more motivated to express their view while the indifferent and supporters are to a lesser extend. In his mind I'm sure he understand statistically, the majority support and does not criticize his strategies. Like all things in life, there are always too sides: Being criticized because of convenience of mass social media but the haters also give him another 10 minutes of fames (the other is Jeopardy's history book of big winners).
As a viewer I prefer the contestants to stick to one category at a time, but I completely understand Arthur's jumping strategy. It's disorienting if you're not paying attention, but ultimately he wants the most money. I think he's ballsy for it.
I was on fox new's website reading an article about this guy....and because of the comments on Fox News I thought that this guy was unanimously hated. Now that I'm back on RUclips....people seem to respect his strategizing. Wtf was wrong with Fox News....geeze
I just don't see what the big deal is. Jeopardy is all about winning money by solving clues. Who cares on what order you pick such clues??? As long as you solve them and earn some cash.
lol the reason why people got upset is because the people at home also try to answer the questions at home while watching but were getting upset because they cant keep up with arthur either.
I find it funny that people called him a villain for using a strategy. You would go into a exam without studying before it. Whats wrong with this. He is a genius for properly finding ways to win.
They compared the using these strategies on Jeopardy to counting the cards at BlackJack which is odd...odd because if you count the cards at Blackjack it's actually cheating since you eliminate totally the luck-factor of the game, on the other side in Jeopardy you can merely increase your chances and lower the ones of the other players to get a double daily, also you have to get most of the answers right to ensure victory, so it actually needs skills. I think that the people blaming Arthur for literally being a "good player" are just pathetic ignorants who can't understand that doing this is like the same as studying before a test: it doesn't guarantee you'll pass the trial, but it will increase your chances of doing so. Once again, studying for a test and remembering the topics which the teachers asks or likes the most isn't like copying the answers from a robbed sheet or from internet via smartphone...I do the exact same thing (studying and getting intel on the teacher) at university: it doesn't make me score perfect grades but it raises my possibilities to pass with high ones! Period!
Counting cards doesn't eliminate the luck factor. Doing it poorly or wrong and you will lose money. Doing it correctly will swings the casino's less then two percent edge and gives the player less then a two percent edge. Over time that can add up. The similarities with Arthur and card counters are only a very small minority of people can do it effectively and it requires an excellent memory and ability to focus. Counting cards and what Arthur is doing is not cheating, its well within the rules of the game. Counting cards can be ended with continuous shufflers. Jeopardy could change the rules (like to prevent the Forrest bounce). But they wont. The haters are just jealous they don't have talent to do the same.
It's news. It may not be the overthrow of the government at Kiev, but it's news of a kind. And The Lead covers a wide range of items of interest. And as the guy said, Jeopardy! has been on for **a generation** so, bullshit, as a "commercial" it's profoundly useless.
the people who vilify him are either idiots, just jealous, or both! he did not do anything illegal or act un-sportsman like. people who are smart as well as understand competition, know this. this happens in sports, business, everywhere. you not only play offense, but also defense by taking away your opponent's advantages over you. unsophisticated audiences and spectators might not like it, but you are not there to entertain them. you are there to win without violating any rules. I have beaten people in scrabble who have a little better vocabulary than me because I just not play offense, but also defense by taking away the premium tiles away from them. I do the same strategy in tennis competitions. players who know these are not only not offended, but they applaud you when you successfully do it against them. recently, a well known top tech company just bought another company not bec they need it. it's bec so the closest competitors cannot acquire it and gain ground. this is perfectly acceptable!
I don't see whats so "unorthodox" as some other videos have called his methods of winning. He's giving the viewers a rush, he's stepping up the game, and truly challenging the focus of his fellow player's minds. This IS a game of mental skill.
People who said he's a cheater are all lazy, unmotivated, and lacks common sense.
BS!!!!!!!........
"You seem like a nice kid." Dude is 30 years old.
He looks like a 300lb. baby. Just look at those cheeks. So, I can understand if he forgot for a second.
I see a South Park episode coming.
potsos
Yeah, the anchor is a douche there!
He said he was one year old in 1985.. which makes him 28. 29 at the oldest. :D 3:25
CrashOptimistic He's 30 years old. May want to try your math again. :-P
He just gave you all the information you need to win Jeopardy for free. Good dude.
What a great guy!. his responses were so honest, eloquent and fair! Great job Mr. Chu!
Thumbs up to Arthur Chu and all the others like him who erase the sameness of games to make them interesting. Turn of the tide.
Quite right. Games are supposed to be interesting. Way to go, Chu! You've given me a reason to watch Jeopardy.
This makes me want to watch Jeopardy now. Thanks Arthur Chu!
And maybe old tapes of CCCP-TV??????????.
Love the way this guy played the game. He found an edge and he exploited it to the max. You go to jeopardy to win, not to make friends. People who can't understand his style are simply unwilling to learn.
Picking a category and amount and then actually answering the question is somehow wrong? I don't get it. He just played the game by the rules.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what he did. It's not breaking the rules and probably will interest more people to watch the game.
Smart guy, of all the people out there, jeopardy fans should understand what strategy and tactics are.
Like DPRK's strategy???????????. GTH.........
I like this guy, if only our politicians, stockbrokers and corporate managers were as honest and sincere as this guy, the world would be a much better place.
I can't believe people complained about this. He didn't game the system. He actually used strategy to win, there's nothing wrong with that.
ShantyGaming Most people hate him because of the person that he is not his game strategy. He has an extremely vile character and lacks basic empathy for others.
Good for him! Take advantage of every little thing you can, and win some $$$$!!!!
He's awesome.
Like Kim Jong Un to you???????.
this guy is awesome. loved reading/listening to this story. Seems like such a nice guy, and smart too. Good for him.
Why would jumping around the board be a problem? They're allowed to choose whatever the fuck category they want to choose.
I thought he might be awkward judging by his appearance. But he seems like a very well spoken and intelligent dude. Good luck to him.
Hey this guy deserve the prize. This is a game, as a player you must used all kinds of strategy in order to win.
I think this is great. I'm sorry the regular fans don't like this guy, however I bet the producers love this guy or at least the attention he's getting.
Keep going Arthur! You are not breaking any rules! Haters get a life!!!
very well spoken guy
So if an Asian guys plays Jeopardy, it's CHEATING. lol hahahaha
Very funny.
exactly...white dudes have played the strategy for years with no problem. If that is the problem, then jeopardy should change the rule......
I saw the last 2 episodes, and saw the everyone else was jumping around too. So not sure what the big deal is.
anh nguyễn q to w5s7q3u 2wq5j3wi w6 Reeswzm6hrt

this guy's a bad ass. awesome. keep it up arthur!
I like him. He found a way around the system. Governments hate this and apparently game shows too. He's a hero, not a villain.
Like Ho Chi Min?????????.
Good interview
this guy is awesome!!
Like Kim Jong Un??????.
He looks like ProZD: grown married man, teenage face, deep voice, glasses.
Smart guy. Shame on those haters.
why doesnt everyone use this strategy?
He is discrediting himself a little by emphasizing that it's been done before. I think his instinct there is to deflect blame. However he should give himself credit for discovering a strategy that he can use to his advantage.
It has been done before though.. the Forrest Bounce is named after a former competitor on Jeopardy that did the same thing.
its called being humble
Ping Pong HUMBLE MY A**.....
So Asians owe their success to Google. Confirmed.
mason poor ickle keyboard racist who nobody loves :)
+LunchableSandwich make it about race. Seriously? It's 2015. Grow up.
regardless of strategies he is still extremely intelligent and knows the answers (thats the game) and if random people tried these "strategies" they would not have the success he has. he is extremely knowledgeable and any of his opponents are welcome to take those "strategies"
doesn't matter if the guy board jumps or goes in order, he knows the answers to all the questions anyways
Like his DPRK Manifesto???????.
He seems like such a pleasant. guy

Great job, keep it up..
I actually like the guy! Well articulate and smart !
Congradulashun, you are a weener
Arthur is making the old people stroke out in the nursing homes!
I don't hear anybody complaining about his strategy.
This guy is the man! He sounds like Seth Mcfarlene
Why does he have chocolate on his face? Did he blow his winnings on snacks??
Hah, I thought it was a birthmark or something.
This guy rulz!!
My teacher is friends w/ this guy. We were talking about him during class . . .
was his haircut the result of a lost bet?
+Whatever129 he lost some of it in a daily double Supercuts category

What a great heel.
Jeopardy is the best.
People don't like it because it makes it harder for the home audience to follow along.
I'm not going to spoil anything, but I will say the he'll be far from being the next Ken Jennings, but by the end of his streak, he will be in the Jeopardy! history books.
Have you seen some recent tapings in person or something? Is that how you know that he'll be far from being the next Ken Jennings?
No, but I will say that Jeopardy! needs to be careful with what they put on their RUclips account.
datguyyo
Fair enough
Good for him. So he had a unique strategy; this hardly makes him a villain.
Like your Intrusive PC ilk??????????.
Strategy is strategy, period.
its not cheating its called strategy. there just jealous cause his winning more cash.
even ken Jennings often started the game with a 200 question,
As a viewer I prefer the contestants to stick to one category at a time, but I completely understand Arthur's jumping strategy. It's disorienting if you're not paying attention, but ultimately he wants the most money. I think he's ballsy for it.
arthur wrote amazon but alex also accepted amazon .com
almost ironic that Arthur forgot the category for his "Two" penny opera response
I was on fox new's website reading an article about this guy....and because of the comments on Fox News I thought that this guy was unanimously hated. Now that I'm back on RUclips....people seem to respect his strategizing. Wtf was wrong with Fox News....geeze
He's a Neo-Communist.....
There should be no hate it’s just a strategy
I just don't see what the big deal is. Jeopardy is all about winning money by solving clues. Who cares on what order you pick such clues??? As long as you solve them and earn some cash.
this is how you play the game
any game
In the DPRK??????????.
The guy uses his brain and wins. How can you fault him?
SMART GUY, you are a winner................
lol the reason why people got upset is because the people at home also try to answer the questions at home while watching but were getting upset because they cant keep up with arthur either.
Koreans always create their own meta!
Arthur IS the meta
You think Chu is a Korean surname? ... wow.
It's a joke, I'm sure everyone knows it's Chinese. They almost won last year's LoL championship.
BasketballStud99 Chu is also a Korean family name, but in this case, I think he is Chinese American.
But probably a supporter of their governments........
dam he's smart..
For the CP-USA????????.
I find it funny that people called him a villain for using a strategy. You would go into a exam without studying before it. Whats wrong with this. He is a genius for properly finding ways to win.
What's wrong being a villain? I would argue that Darth Vader is a lot more interesting than Luke Skywalker.
Good point.
SO IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN DEFEAT HIM o_o
maybe Ken Jennings.
Cool Dude!
how old is this guy?
30
is that marinara sauce on his cheek?
So basically, this is all about some losers hating a winner?!! I dont think that's something new.
Where is the deep voice coming from
Anyone that Hates on him is a hater

This is disturbingly not news. Commercial for Jeopardy much. Thanks CNN.
It's news. It may not be the overthrow of the government at Kiev, but it's news of a kind. And The Lead covers a wide range of items of interest. And as the guy said, Jeopardy! has been on for **a generation** so, bullshit, as a "commercial" it's profoundly useless.
You summed it up perfectly, "it's profoundly useless". Thanks.
Still needs to win about 70 more games to beat Ken Jennings record
Well now I finally know what happened to Scott Thompson's mouth.
It ends tonight.
cosmo got me here!
Is it me or are the stuff he does not even close to cheating? Don't understand how that narrative got started.
Looks 15, acts 30.
Arthur is my dad's cousin SERIOUS MY guess just guess what my last name is;-;
This guy, personally has an ant problem. Like HE has ants. Not like his house or something.
Is that dry ketchup on his lips?
he has some spaghetti sauce on the left side of his mouth
he's a "kid"? He is 30 years old...-_-
