    LOL at The Naked Gun preview at the end. OJ flying over the railing at 21:18. What a visual

    A Christmas Carol is a natural story for the special effects of movies. Charles Dickens himself calls it a “…ghostly little book…”

    I've probably watched 30 of these videos and I am quite certain this is the first example I've seen of Gene liking a film that Roger does not. And I would bet anything I own that scenario is the least common. Gene dislikes films that Roger likes in almost every show lol but the other way around doesn't happen much!

    Roger was right about Murray. He didnt get along with Richard Donner the director of Scrooged due to creative differences and looked joyless. He also didnt get along with Richard Dreyfuss on What About Bob? and Lucy Liu in Charlie's Angel's, and has feuded with Chevy Chase for decades. Great comic actor and I love him but he seems to clash with lots of directors and co stars.

      Murray's frustration was justified in Scrooged. Donner insisted that Frank was always manic and that really hurt the character's "reform" at the end of the film.

      Not at all. You mentioned 3 unlikable actors while blindly overlooking BM contributions and good cheer. He's friggin great!

      @@davidperez5089 Please don’t get me wrong I love Bill Murray. What About Bob? is one of my top five favorite films ever and I love some of his other classic comedies and work with Wes Anderson. He has stirred up his share of feuds but that doesn’t mean he is not an amazing actor nonetheless and I will agree with you in the case of Chevy Chase. He is also a great actor but sadly unlikeable in real life.

    _Cocoon: The Return_ is a bit underrated. Sure, it's not a masterpiece like the original, but the performances, the emotional beats really work, and there's some great shots.

    Siskel & Ebert episodes are a welcome antidote to the message of deluded nostalgiacs who insist the 1980s was a great decade for movies. Looking closely at what came out week after week, I don't know how these guys didn't despair more often and get sick of their jobs.

    • @wswfootball19
      @wswfootball19 2 года назад +3

      Okay, I understand that some film historians didn't like the 80s. I get it. It was a decade of avarice. But you can easily be seen as a film snob for writing stuff like this, espeically people who disagree with Siskel and Ebert.

    • @wswfootball19
      @wswfootball19 2 года назад +3

      @@flaccidusminimus2170 Again, I get why people like Siskel and Ebert consider the 80s inferior to the 70s. Hell, I've been watching a lot of 70s masterpieces myself and I pretty much agree with them on those movies. But let's be honest, the reason why I accused you of snobbery is because that's how you come across when you call people who enjoy 80s blockbusters "deluded nostalgics". Obviously, not all 80s blockbusters are good, but not all of them are bad either.

    • @wswfootball19
      @wswfootball19 2 года назад +1

      @@flaccidusminimus2170 Also, you also forget that Siskel and Ebert can enjoy blockbusters too if they're well made and imaginative. Were they deluded for enjoying Jaws and Star Wars, two movies that led to the blockbuster mentality they were protesting against? No. They praised them for what they set out to do and how they exeeced them. Were they deluded for enjoying Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? No. They enjoy them for being high quality films. Hell, Back to the Future made Gene's best 10 list. And Who Framed Roger Rabbit made both of their best 10 lists. And Ghostbusters.... well, Gene might actually agree with you because he felt that Bill Murray's performance triumphed in an overall overblown special effect film. But Roger enjoyed the movie more than Gene and I think that his analysis is valid.

    A clear example of how these two could miss the point of a movie completely. Full Moon is a great quirky abstract movie about eccentrics. I know you’re long dead now, but come on! Sometimes these two were just too old and square. Ugh.
