No one was thinking the defense would take hits the way they did. But just like every team in the league now we looking for pieces to fit the system, not just big name players
Yes we did because a few of those player were known for getting hurt We knew Davenport, Levi, Pashal, Brodric Martin, Barnes, Davis could not stay healthy for a whole season Now I’m not acting like we didn’t see that defense show up before getting hurt but half of those player were not known for being healthy at all
Josh Sweat is not a bad option. Definitely better than Davenport injury wise. That said, I am still somewhat worried about spending too much money on free agents given the rather large amount young players coming off their rookie contracts we have coming up. I already have a feeling someone will be the odd man out, I would hate for a new free agent to cause a 2nd player to be left out. I would really like Brad to use some of these 3rd rounders to trade up in the 1st or 2nd rounder to draft an edge rusher. I would love Abdul Carter from Penn State, bur that unfortunately isn't happening.
Successful teams build their foundation through the draft, developing young talent and extending key players early, while using free agency to fill gaps rather than reckless spending. Teams like the Chiefs, 49ers, Ravens, and Eagles follow this formula, keeping them in contention year after year. Armchair GMs never consider future situations but want quick solutions that don’t work out.
I highly doubt the lions are going to sign any player in free agency for over 16+ a season. It will be best edge they can get in the draft if that means trade up I trust in Holmes to do it. But why spend that much when we have a lot of home grown guys that will need extensions over the next couple of seasons.
The reason we didn't get to the Super Bowl is we had 18 defensive players out for the game! No one loses 3 of their 4 starting defensive linemen as well as 2 of their top 3 corners and a ton of depth guys and pretend everything is fine. We had a top 5 scoring defense through the first 10 games of the season before Carlton Davis and Alim were lost for the season.
I am against signing we are pretty much set the other position very simple get couple one at draft resting smith for 5 mil I think him and hutch and one good draft I think they are ok
The theory is to collapse the pocket, which helps stop the run, and Hutch can run free on the edge. The theory hasn't panned out with the opposite DE of Hutch.
I’m willing to chalk it up to a rough year for injuries, but DBs are still priority, and one edge. Maybe one interior rush and not just run defense, that’s what I think. Linebacker core is pretty solid for stopping the rush, Campbell has improved on coverage. It’s still DBs that give up too many plays and the edge guys give up QB runs
One good backup end is fine. I know Smith is getting up there but he had 9 sacks and we have him another year. With Hutch and McNeil healthy there will be significant rush. If lions are going to blow cap space they need beast DTs.
With us having a 3rd rounder now for AG leaving I'd like to see if Brad could trade up for Abdul Carter. I think people are saying he might go #2 to Cleveland but I think Brad could get that deal done. Cleveland needs a QB and affordable players with that mess of a deal they gave Watson. So if Brad offers our 1st and third for Cleveland's 1st with Hendon as a cherry I think he could lock up the end opposite Hutch for the next 3-5 years with Z there to mentor him this year. Go after Kinlaw or Greg Gaines for DT and maybe take another run at Judon or Mack, if either can be gotten for a reasonable price then Brad still has rounds 2, 4 6, and 7 to build depth. I think he should resign CD too to keep the secondary in a good spot.
No way we're trading up in the early top 5 in the 1st round to get Abdul Carter. I'd rather trade for Maxx Crosby or Myles Garrett before considering that option.
We going to see how good Brad Holmes ha a GM is this off season with the draft and FA. He is not bad but he missed some big hits. Hopefully we get at A this year
No free agent signings...Draft a DE and a DT ..this draft is deep in these positions..3rd rounder a OL or QB..the core of this team is strong and young...Hutch and Williams 5th year options this year..Kirby paid this year..Sweat..nope..Smith..nope
I have to disagree about Brad because we had to fill every position on the team since day one. The D-line is the last position that needs to be filled.
We definitely need to resign Z and we 100 percent need at minimum 1 more higher quality pass rusher. If they do that this definitely will be a top 10. If we didn't get all the injuries I think this defense would of ranked in the top 15 and probably would of got us to the bowl. I don't know if the offense will be as good next year so we need a top 10 defense
You build a core through the draft. Brad is looking 4 years down the road not just what is needed now. He will draft an edge. They were hopeing pascal could be that guy. He’s not. So it’s time to move to the next draft pick.
@@daman2033 Like Brodric "I can't get on the field" Martin? We reached for that guy in the 3rd round. C'mon man we passed on cheap difference maker FA's last year who are locked in with contracts and it costed us a playoff win and potential SB berth. Can't pass on difference maker FA pass rushers again.
Go keep it real if we dnt inprove our pass rush this offseason and get another playmaker impact player in the front 7, we will regress again next season, lost to many coaches
Brad really has been horrible with the Edge. You can not count Hutch cause if we didnt take Hutch it would have been the wrong move. He fell into our laps in my opinion.
Brad is not going to spend big money or assest on a dominant impact player in FA. He will use the once we get players back healthy excuses. We lost to many good coaches not to get any difference maker on defense. Unfortunately he is too stobborn.
I’m still drafting a DT I don’t trust Brodric trade him and a pick for a second round pick and replace him if we using our Brad brain saving money I agree with you but Brad gone Brad
@ nobody is gonna take him. He would be negative value in a trade. His contract doesn’t need it. If we want him off the team he would be a cut guy. He’s done nothing in Detroit to make another GM want him.
@@Envision95that may be a option but it won’t be till end of preseason as the lions aren’t in cap issues so they will give him the offseason to show something.
I think they resign zadrius grab a jack sawyer to rotate in and out trade up for shemar turner grab a safety let lffy walk I want him to spend money but ik he not so this is my idea for the draft
They aren’t going to move smith. There won’t be. He’s on a deal. It won’t hamper the cap next year and it’s not bothering it this season. There not gonna bid on huge free agency guy. They will take an edge in first or second round and build with him. They are not going to kill the future. In the near future Jamo branch Aiden and more need to be resigned. Brad Holmes is not gonna pay for and elite free agent.

Yes, please consider getting Josh Sweat.
There is no guarantee Josh Sweat gone want to come to Detroit

Until we get a compesary pick. We currently don't have a 3rd or 5th to trade
@@taylorkirkpatrick906they have a compensatory pick for Aaron Glenn in the third.
@ we get a 3rd round pick this year and next year for losing AG.
@taylorkirkpatrick906 We will get two 3rd rounders this year for Ben and AG and another 3rd rounder next year for AG because of the Rooney rule.
Where is Detroit going to put all these edge rushers they're signing/ trading for?
U should start doing mock drafts and scouting positions of need on the team for YT videos
Mike Green looks mean he is fast
We need to email Brad Holmes or DM or something to get this man here
Your right Josh Sweat💪 what I like about you. You tell him like it is My Brother?
16:33 big dog. Woof woof. 😂American dad episode
Been saying this since our season ended. He would be a great pick up. Especially if we don’t bring back Z
Do you think they will throw a bunch of resources at the DE position similar to what they did with CB pretty much the last 2 years? 🤞
I don’t see a way the Lions make any crazy moves for DEs.
It’ll be Za’Darius Smith, Alim McNeill, a DT (Reader, probably), and Hutch
Brad listens to no one hr will get a guy we never heard of a nd he picks injured guys
If we got Josh sweat I will be a happy man 😂😂😂

Congrats on the growth, brother. Derrick for Lions GM!
We need to get a stud veteran through trade or free agency, then go draft another one in the 1st round
I am against signing we are pretty much set the other position very simple get couple one at draft resting smith for 5 mil I think him and hutch and one good draft I think they are ok
Mike Green and Jack Sawyer in the draft looks amazing. I also like Derrick Hermon who’s a DT but rushes the passer

We have no other "huge" needs in FA other than the D-line, so he'd better address it.

That Davenport injury appeared to be intentional. It looked like a very dirty play...
They need to get a defensive end bad..
