As a man who has participated in war, this song brought me to tears and caused me to regret my life choices even more. I was so blinded by poverty and the dotted line offered a way out.
So many of us went into the military because, as bad as maybe getting getting blown up, maimed, psychologically damaged, or killed was, we hoped that would not be and that life would be better or redeem the tragedy from whence we came. So much poverty or abuse so many came from. And so much of that, neglected children, betrayed by economies and the state, feed the soldiery their bodies in war. And we, so hopeful, could buy into their propaganda "How sweet and honourable it is to die for one's country" As in the poem "Dulce et Decorum Est" by Wilfred Owen
I'm not someone who was on the receiving end of the Military Industrial Complex, at least not in the way of firearms and bombs, so maybe I can't offer you this... But I forgive you. We all make choices we regret in life, and joining the military, often isn't completely your decision because most Americans are taught at an early age that fighting in war for the USA is an honorable thing to do. Now depending on the war, you might be able to say it is, however no matter what war you are in, that dotted line owns you at the end of the day. I think that's one of the biggest lies they ever sell any of us.
