Fabregas made a great point about how subs send a message to both teams. Defensive subs signal to your team to sit back, and signal to the opposition that you feel vulnerable. Bringing on Palmer and Gordon at the 60 minute mark would have put us back on the front foot.

Foden already done the damage. He is failing Southgate. Those subs were to protect the lead. An unfit Saka is Messi compared to Foden. Foden has no excuse. People have so much hope for Foden. Saka unfit still performs. How can you not perform and still play the next game. Look what Rooney did all those years ago even a young Owen. Playing someone who doesn't want it is bad for morale. Gorden is the new Owen and Eze. Unleash them. Foden isn't the Jesus you all are hoping for. I hope the manager ignores the noise and play the hungry players.

Against Iceland he had a free reign and was anonymous. Face the fact he's shyte for England. Bellingham is arguably the best no 10 in world football now. Palmer soon to properly challenge that spot when being trusted by management. Pep turned his back on Palmer and must now regret that. He knows what a big mistake he made. The problem is not Foden. You can never expect to get the most out of creative intelligent players when we play an extremely defensive formation, that no player in the team is used to at their club teams. Whether they are in their usual position or not, they are not encouraged to go forward, take risks or attack. There is no movement. Sometimes they will play one dimension direct football down the wings until we go a goal up. Then its basically 10 men behind the ball, hold the lead. The problem is Southgate. No player on the pitch is responsible for his lack of desire to attack and win games in style or even convincingly.

Wouldnt have had any issues taking Foden off, and put Gordon/Eze on. Until Bowen came on Serbia could push up their back line as there was no ball over the top as an out ball. To easy to defend. Foden’s position isn’t the problem. The problem is Gareth only brought one natural left back so without Shaw there is no width down that side. @@D1A112That's nice for him, is the purpose of Team England to aggrandize Foden or win ball games? Because if it's to win ball games then Bellingham needs to be able to get up the pitch and Foden either needs to figure out the wing or sit on the bench.

What ppl need to get is that the formation when u see it before the game is not what it ACTUALLY is when you have possession & vice versa especially when u have players allowed to roam and interchange.
If you have Jude next to rice and Foden as a 10 for example in possession it becomes a 4-1-4-1 or even a 3-2-4-1 almost.... out of possession it's a 5-4-1 ideally.
Point being I would take the gamble and drop a CM for a Wide left player to then move Foden centrally. Jude tracks backs and makes runs into the box anyway that's his game.

Without key players like Foden hitting their straps, we ain’t winning nothing and so a solution needs to be found and fast! Agree with Cundy about perhaps pushing Bellingham deeper and playing phone and where he needs to be. Bellingham will still be as effective as he can play anywhere, whereas Foden can’t in that way you get the best out of both of them. If space can’t be found for Foden in the centre or on the right, then he has to be benched but England will pay the price!
Can’t believe this hasn’t been sorted out yet.

Even though it’s just one game, Phil Foden’s performances for England can no longer be ignored. He is the only player who gets the most excuses for ghosting every time he plays for the national team and it makes you wonder why can’t he replicate his Manchester City form in an England shirt. How can such a talented player like him be a shadow of his former self when he plays for the national team even after being so good for his club on a consistent basis. Against Serbia, he had a very poor performance where he touched the ball so many times was involved in the game and didn’t have any sort of impact. He started on the left wing he drifted in field, too many times he was playing sideways passes playing it backwards and whenever he had the ball, he also lost possession a lot. It’s true that he plays his best football as a number 10 as he is more comfortable centrally behind the striker, he’s going to play out of position as long as Jude Bellingham is on that team and even if Foden will play in midfield alongside Bellingham, who’s going to be their left winger. Due to the fact that they didn’t pick Marcus Rashford or Jack Grealish, their only natural left winger is Anthony Gordon and starting him could be a solution and then you move Foden as a number 10 and even if Bellingham plays as a deep lying midfielder next to Rice, he can still impact the game and make deep runs into the box.
We have to agree that he has underperformed for England and they don’t really know what to do with him while also acknowledging the fact that we can’t keep making excuses that “he’s playing out of position” when at Man City Pep has played him as a winger at times and he’s able to have excellent output compared to when he plays for the national team where he doesn’t do much and this is a guy who was the best player in the premier league last season and he’s the most talented player in their squad and for club and country you have to adapt no matter what position you play. England needs more from him because if you don’t know where he should play, you can’t win the EUROs while carrying a passenger in the team and you might as well drop him if you aren’t sure about who you want to play on the left. Fitting a player of his caliber in the same team as Jude Bellingham Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka is easier said than done and hopefully England gets a better version of Foden.

It is a completely insane proposition to consider moving Bellingham to a different spot so that Foden feels more comfortable.
This coddling of famous Premier league players by trying to manage the fee-fees of inferior players instead of telling them to get on with and do their best to sacrifice for their country team is why england has never won anything in the modern era.
