Switch to a 4-2-4 formation. Put Gordon on the left wing, put Palmer on the right wing (Yes I know he plays as a CAM), have Rice and Bellingham in the middle and put Watkins in with Kane up front. Watkins has a different profile and will compliment Kane up front. I love Trippier but he's not a LB and he's absolutely shattered. Southgate brought Shaw for a reason and he needs to get him minutes before the knockout round. At least put Shaw on for a half, either first or second.
the only good lb england have is playing rw, the rest of them are average & shouldn't even be in the squad. trent needs to be on the right, foden at 10, then you either drop bellingham back to 8 & bring palmer or eze on or you bring on another dm next to rice
@blairrobert3438 I can't speak for Palmer but Gordon would do a fine job supporting the left side. Have Tripps/Shaw patrol a little further up like a LWB would. On the right side Walker can easily do the same. We've already seen him run further up the pitch this tourney and Pepe has used him more than a few times as an inverted fullback. He could definitely support from the right. The only thing in question is Palmer and his ability to track back and win 50/50 balls. It won't be worse than what we've already seen.
Two strikers works for me. But I'd put Bellingham in the centre and Palmer as the no 10. Which is where he has dominated games last season. (Especially against Man City). Shaw would push up on the left as he did in the last Euros so well. Good call.
He had a couple of good moments against Iceland. But one player, no matter how good they are, won't solve any problems in all departments of the team. Though I am a big Palmer fan and expect to see him used in the next game when we win 4-0.
Put a chance on a plate for Harry Kane. Something no player has done in 2 games so far at this tournament. the goals we have scored have come from mistakes or deflections. Great goal by Bellingham but ultimately Saka cross was deflected. Last night mistake by defender to let Walker rob him and then two reflections on the poor cross / pass from Walker to fall at Kanes feet for a tap in. We haven’t made a single clear cut chance from 2 games against Serbia and Denmark with an abundance of attacking players to pick from. Grealish and Maddison must be in hysterics thinking they were left out because we already had enough creativity. Madness. Take the shackles off and let the boys play. At this point can’t even understand why the lads are following the game plan when it’s set up for us to fail. It’s been the same pattern for 3 tournaments now, win a game, draw against the so called better team of the group, get out the group, hope for a good draw, come unstuck once we face any team of quality
Trouble is we're so heavily imbalanced in midfield. Aside from Mainoo or Wharton, we don't really have anyone to play a defensive midfield role. Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Bowen, Eze and Gallagher are all attacking midfielders. If Southgate sticks a ball winning midfielder in front of the defence then he's got to sacrifice one of Trent or Rice. Can't see him dropping Bellingham or Foden (or even Kane).

Everyone is talking how bad the formation was, arguing about team selection, the question that should be asked is how can these players fail to pass a ball within the first 3 minutes, even though no opposition player was near them. If you cannot pass a ball then it doesn’t matter what formation is used
huh? it actually improved things. The players that came on actually moved. Kane was moving, but moving towards his own goal, Watkins came on and was moving towards the opponents goal. The team that started looked like they were severely exhausted from the first minute - they were stood still all game.
I can see him playing gomes next to guehi then playing stones in midfield next to rice as we can't press properly, so we gotta be more compact and play similar to previous euros,
We have lots of leaders playing on a different page, you can just throw talented players together and expect results (Chelsea), kane still a top finisher, Trent still top passer, foden still top dribbler... But they need an identity and tactics
"Palmer". If you are Italian I can understand your mistake. After all, we English don't get Roma, Milano, Napoli et al right. Watkins scored 24 league goals, Kane, 44 goals in 45 German games. But 20 is good too. And he IS a special player. He will be used in the next game, I am certain. And he will do well.
@@jamesmilligan2797 southgate plays foden as a defensive winger which suits saka as he's actually england's best lb playing as a defensive rw when trent needs to be on the right to give them natural width, that's the problem, england are too narrow, there's too many players out of position trying to do the same thing & there's no balance
That is what we need more number 10s on the pitch so they can all drift into the middle & give us absolutely no width whatsoever. Kane, Foden, Palmer & Bellingham all like to occupy the same space, we need players in the positions they play in, get Shaw in, Gordon on the left, Mainoo to partner Rice & play Foden or Bellingham as a 10.
The thing with southgates triple subs is that he does this a lot. It's like for like changes for energy but the tactics are wrong. Nothing changed after those subs.
The English players don’t want to risk getting injured and get dropped from their clubs next season. Too much money involved in transfers and salaries. I have to say alot of people can shut up because the amount of people I heard that was happy with the lineups and have been screaming for the likes of TAA to play in midfield was crazy now it's not working it's all Southgate fault you all just want every player on the pitch TAA doesn't get in the starting 11 he's the back up RB same as palmer he's the back up 10 he doesn't get in starting 11 play the same back 4 bellingham rice cm foden 10 and our normal front 3 but Southgate for once has listened to the fans and look what's happened
Well said. Everyone loved the idea of Tent in midfield. Now it was always a terrible idea. All these excuses are just a way for English people to get out of confronting the truth: Our players can't handle pressure when playing for England and we are the Spurs of intl football no matter who the manager is.
@BirdLives7 absolute facts I have no idea why we so arrogant we haven't won anything since the 60s 😂 we have no credentials to suggest we are gonna win every single time a tournament comes around

Kane actually said they were told at half to go deeper so it was down to GS. Eze is not a winger TAA not a midfielder Trippier not a left back so long in the job and still no set way of playing or plan b. I’m wondering if we should do an Ivory Coast.
The problem with Trent last night was he is one of the best passers in the league but if he has no one to pass to it’s pointless having him on the pitch
One of England’s issues is Kane drops in deep , Rice is in the middle Bellingham is in the middle Trent is in the middle and Fodden’s in the middle. The only player who runs in behind is Saka . They’re so predictable and it seems like you have a better chance of scoring after letting England go in front
We fans told the media that Southgate is a joke a long long time ago! Then the man utd fans got dissed by the media because they didn't want him as manager. The media were defending Southgate before this euros constantly, even though with those easy brackets in previous tournaments, England should have won at least one of those tournaments. Now the media is all Southgate this Southgate that. It's too late!
3-2-4-1 formation is the only way to fit all the "desired" players to be on the pitch. Run Bellingham and Foden up the middle together in a box midfield with rice and either mainoo or Gallagher in behind them. Saka and Gordon on the wings and kane (with strict instructions to stay out of the way of the midfield and be a target) in front.
English football is 30 years old. When the prem started,I said, why don't we play with intensity in international football like we do in the prem but we insisted playing the international way. Now everyone is playing the prem way and we r still playing the international way 🫣😡
Mainoo is not as good as he is hyped out to be, he is good on the ball but he ain’t a defensive midfielder, probably an 8. He gets ran through in midfield.
Southgate deserves more time, trust the process, he’s the most successful manager we’ve had in years, he knows what he’s doing, you can’t win them all, he’s going to right the ship and take home the trophy 100%.
I think Southgate was right to keep the team the same. That's the team I'd have picked and we were all expecting them to be much better, not worse. I think the Denmark game has cleared two things up though. 1) If Trent can't influence the game in midfield against Denmark and Serbia I wouldn't trust him against the better sides. 2) Foden is wasted on the left, if Shaw comes back that might change but until then he needs moving into the middle. My criticism of Southgate is the same criticism I've had for years. Too passive. Go one up and sit back. Wait 70 minutes to try to change the game. Players like Kane and Trent who were completely anonymous should be given 5-10 minutes after half time to show an improvement, if they don't they should be hooked. Southgate seems pathologically incapable of doing this. Ultimately though, the blame has to be shared with the players. You can't blame the manager for Kane not pressing or Rice and Trent repeatedly giving the ball away under no pressure or Foden refusing to run down the line. These players are capable of playing so much better and for all the, largely justified criticism Southgate is getting, the players can't hide behind him when he's picked sides that should've beaten Serbia and Denmark comfortably.
The issue with England is the midfield doesn’t compliment the attack and vise versa. Trent-long passer, Rice-Runner, Jud-Runner. No one wants to keep the ball or knows how to in Englands midfield. They want to get it, run with it or make quick long passes. And the Attack has no runners. The only fast player is Saka and he hardly makes runs in behind. If you’re gonna play with this midfield, the Attack should be Gor-Wat-Bowen.
Kobi Mainoo would solve a lot of the problems, but without runners out wide and a forward who plays on the shoulder, there is no space for technicians to do their thing. It's not the players fault that the manager left the runners at home
Gareth Southgate came in and changed the environment both socially and pychologically in 2018, rode the wave of optimism for a couple of years. He is now being found out at this level, out of his depth as a coach specifically regarding the technical and tactical corners of coaching. Look at the top 4 coaches in the prem, Pep, Arteta, Klopp and Emery, all seriously demanding coaches. The environment pendulum has swung to far to a holiday camp look. A pro phase coach at best.
Yes the players cant surely be told to sit back as soon as 1 nil up. Is it just fatigue and lack of match fitness for many players? They start both games well so they can play well together but then it subsides. Is that a formation, tactical issue or tiredness?
Every player from every team is fatigued too ya know after a long season it's no excuse its the tactics that are wrong remember these players are under instructions..

Kane keeps dropping to deep & if it’s not instructed by Southgate, he needs to tell him, the next time you drop deep I’m dragging you off. Trent can’t ping a ball if you’re 10 yards in front of him.
Kanes bin doing that for 4-5yrs now deeper and deeper..
Trent shouldnt be in the position to ping a ball, hes not a midfielder
He is a defender thats too lazy to defend
"experimenting" with TAA in midfield during a tournament was an unbelievable statement to come out with
Did Bellingham play last night? Didn't see him
He was the least effective attacker on the pitch and Southgate left him on the pitch. Should have been subbed off for Palmer.
I said it b4 this tournament, you need experience players in a tournament like this. Dropping some experience players affected this team a lot.
Jason's right. It's the players.
We think we have the best players in the world, we don't. Plain and simple.
They're good, but not the best
Surely they’re better than Denmark
This is brilliant because you lot think England are a better team than everyone down south think Spain Germany and more likely France and Portugal would all beat you and others who would struggle against
Absolutely agree... England are sh*te at football, & we'll never win f**k all!!!!
We don't think that at all. We could be better than them. But we certainly aren't right now. We are miles away. May just top ten
Hehehehe! Cheeky fecker!
Please write in English with some punctuation please. Don't have a clue what you just said. A full stop or comma where needed please.
@@StevenO4342 Totally agree, Steven. Its a bit rich people slagging off the English team with bad English.
What this group of players are missing is heart and passion. Teams like Denmark, Albania etc play their heart out, give everything because they see it as a privilege. Our lads don't care enough.
Money, the root of all evil.
England are just not that good! That’s just honest truth, chemistry just isn’t there
Coaching clearly isn't good enough either
Na mate they the spurs of international football will never win anything unfortunately
By my reckoning, they've been the most consistent national team over the last 35-40 years . . . consistently awful, that is.
Individually the players are good but as a team they're just not playing for the manager.
@@no1arab502 Jesus, would much prefer to see them play like Spurs, least it’s attacking football 😂
I agree with the guy below Premier League is full of European, and South American footballers making the English players better than they are, Serbia ranked 32, Iceland ranked 70, and England 4!!!!
thats nonsense, absolute nonsense.
😅😂
The rankings aren't based on what players people have 🤦🤦🤦
It's based on your national team's results, no matter how stupid the weightings are.
Well at least you learned something new today didnt you,
Just because you agree with someone dosnt make them correct, and you should actually think about what you are saying before you say it 😂
Spain played next and you were like WOW... What a team. England have no players like Rodri,Ruiz and Pedri
Pedri absolutely bossed that midfield. Williams and Lamine Yamal terrorised on the wings
You have Foden. He's the only English player with "Brazilian flair". Isolating him on the left wing is a crime.
i dont know what they have been taught on the training field but its not how any of the players are used to or in the positions they are used to
They take a bloody good knee tho
yep our woke credentials are fully intact
Maybe the players wouldn't be nervous if there weren't people saying "We have to win this tournament with the players we have"
Switch to a 4-2-4 formation. At least put Shaw on for a half, either first or second.
lolz. Rice and Bellingham with zero protection from the wings would be a disaster against better teams. We'd never have the ball.
the only good lb england have is playing rw, the rest of them are average & shouldn't even be in the squad. trent needs to be on the right, foden at 10, then you either drop bellingham back to 8 & bring palmer or eze on or you bring on another dm next to rice
Good call.
I’ve watched every single game so far, England has by far been the worst team in this competition
Well that's not true. Hungary, Scotland?
@@andyc7666second game they were both better than England was today
@@romeoscousin731 What Hungary were?
Sorry to piss in your porridge. But England will win their next game 4-0. You heard it here first.
@@True_Heretic Watch them lose, then the danes win they will finish 3rd and be knocked out by germany lol
Put Palmer on and we’ll show you what a player taking the bull by the horns looks like.
Only if they give him a pen 😂
Trouble is we're so heavily imbalanced in midfield. Aside from Mainoo or Wharton, we don't really have anyone to play a defensive midfield role. Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Bowen, Eze and Gallagher are all attacking midfielders. If Southgate sticks a ball winning midfielder in front of the defence then he's got to sacrifice one of Trent or Rice. Can't see him dropping Bellingham or Foden (or even Kane).
Talksport never look at things in context. Even Simon who errs on the side of context has thrown that out the window recently
Bench Kane, put Watkins in 😢
You'd replace a guy who scored 44 goals last season with a guy who scored 24? Maths not your strong suit?
@@True_Hereticstats are for twats..use your brain Watkins will offer more he's quicker and fitter and can score goals harry kane plays like a 45 year old chain smoker

@@Chriztefur Nonsense. Portugal won't drop Ronaldo even though he missed everything in the last game.
Everyone is talking how bad the formation was, arguing about team selection, the question that should be asked is how can these players fail to pass a ball within the first 3 minutes, even though no opposition player was near them. If you cannot pass a ball then it doesn’t matter what formation is used
Thank you. Too much crying about Southgate and not enough discussion about our players just plainly being cowards.
Changing the front 3 was a real braindead move.
huh? it actually improved things. The players that came on actually moved. Kane was moving, but moving towards his own goal, Watkins came on and was moving towards the opponents goal. The team that started looked like they were severely exhausted from the first minute - they were stood still all game.
It’s just a panic roll of the dice when you are completely out of ideas.
Unless Saka was injured he has to stay on .. if he's tired bring on Bloody Palmer ffs
As a Scot,im loving this!!!🤣😂🇷🇸🇩🇰🏴

5-1😂😂😂😂
Wow
Thanks and there’s me rooting for Scotland the other night all fool me !!!
I can see him playing gomes next to guehi then playing stones in midfield next to rice as we can't press properly, so we gotta be more compact and play similar to previous euros,
England look lost without Hendo , What a player!!!
🤣
People will never understand his impact and knowhow
That's gotta be a sick joke surely😢😮
We have lots of leaders playing on a different page, you can just throw talented players together and expect results (Chelsea), kane still a top finisher, Trent still top passer, foden still top dribbler... But they need an identity and tactics
They miss Henderson. He was still the captain when Kane had the armband. All the Henderson haters were such fools. go cry now
Agree 💯
Don't make me laugh although he was a leader
Bro I don't know who is more dumb, you or Southgate?
Exactly, why even bring Wharton if you have no intention of playing him. At least Henderson would be a leader in that dressing room.
Jay we didn’t play a 4-2-3-1 w Phillips it was a 5 at the back w a double pivot. Essentially 7 defenders
For God sake man! Calm the f*** down! Here's a question, if Southgate isn't asking them to sit back, then why isn't he yelling at them to push up???
Totally agree lads .Nice to see your honesty .
It’s beyond me how Parma is not starting or coming on! The man has scored over 20 goals this season
Fods scored 20+ and Citys player of the season,, & hes been awful!!🤬🤬
@@jamesmilligan2797 yep because he's playing out of position

Not a bad shout , Trent definitely isn’t working in there.
@jsmith9079 Defo ain't working mate. Also start Watkins over Kane, f it.
@@tinman293💯
@@tinman293 Problem with Watkins is he isnt clinical in front of goal but is good running and stretching the back lines of the opposition
That is what we need more number 10s on the pitch so they can all drift into the middle & give us absolutely no width whatsoever. Kane, Foden, Palmer & Bellingham all like to occupy the same space, we need players in the positions they play in, get Shaw in, Gordon on the left, Mainoo to partner Rice & play Foden or Bellingham as a 10.

that manager is a leader
very important
The thing with southgates triple subs is that he does this a lot. It's like for like changes for energy but the tactics are wrong. Nothing changed after those subs.
The English players don’t want to risk getting injured and get dropped from their clubs next season. Too much money involved in transfers and salaries.
They score a goal which is just enough and then go into defensive mode.
They are not going to run with the ball and risk getting tackled just so England can win the Cup. They have a whole season to play for their clubs.
A dumb,. clueless and cynical response on your part. You clearly have no clue about the game. And probably life as a whole.
He said the pressure of playing for England is getting to them 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have to say alot of people can shut up because the amount of people I heard that was happy with the lineups and have been screaming for the likes of TAA to play in midfield was crazy now it's not working it's all Southgate fault you all just want every player on the pitch TAA doesn't get in the starting 11 he's the back up RB same as palmer he's the back up 10 he doesn't get in starting 11 play the same back 4 bellingham rice cm foden 10 and our normal front 3 but Southgate for once has listened to the fans and look what's happened
Bro only idiots were calling for TAA in midfield as the answer... stones and rice should be the holding midfielders in the system he plays... dude has won a treble and double in that position and gets crammed in at centre half
Finally people telling it how it is!!!!
Rice is shocking. Sideways and backwards. Sky sports hype is all England are. 😂
Uncooked Rice so stiff he can't turn on the ball dude shocking. Bellingham just running like he a Duracell battery he getting in other player way then keep fall looking for fouls
Southgate bringing on conor gallagher rminds me of when sven would keep bringing on owen hargreaves 😂
Typical England, overhyped but average at best
Didn't you notice that the Danes failed to control the ball on that fake pitch as well? Be interesting to see Germany against Switzerland on it in a few days. "Ach mein gut! Die Mannschaft ist nein uber Englanders!!!!!"
The thing is Waistcoat has had all the players doing trust falls and skipping in circles instead off drilling them into a cohesive formation.
Southgate is a joke. I mean you have the best squad and depth by a mile and that performance was pathetic…

Kane actually said they were told at half to go deeper so it was down to GS. Eze is not a winger TAA not a midfielder Trippier not a left back so long in the job and still no set way of playing or plan b. I’m wondering if we should do an Ivory Coast.
Maybe leaving Henderson at home was not the right idea. A good leader and knows the position to play very well
Just look at Georgia as an example of how to get the best out of your players. Played with heart bravery and passion
It's so obvious that we need a midfielder who can dictate tempo, not a holding midfielder, but with Southgate it's always safety, safety, safety.
Second caller was spot on, don't panic yet.
I think thats delusion, I can’t see an improvement at the moment
We fans told the media that Southgate is a joke a long long time ago! Then the man utd fans got dissed by the media because they didn't want him as manager. The media were defending Southgate before this euros constantly, even though with those easy brackets in previous tournaments, England should have won at least one of those tournaments. Now the media is all Southgate this Southgate that. It's too late!
I love Cundy‘s horse Impression at the end. 😂😂
Can we have a moment of appreciation for Ben white seeing what the media haven’t for a long time.
Now everyone is playing the prem way and we r still playing the international way 🫣😡
When Southgate said we miss Phillips and Henderson, that was it for me, hasn't a bloody clue
This squad is a reflection of our manager. Our entire squad is twice the player Southgate ever was.
What does Southgate expect playing three right backs ffs!
Not sure why Southgate chickened out starting Mainoo because of the Iceland game where pretty much every player phoned it in.
Rumors have it's in 2092 or at this time around...
Seriously, come on he doesn't know what he is doing, that's the point.
Good one 😂
YOU GOT TO BE JOKING.
He looked so happy when he axed the likes of sterling, rashford, grelish, Henderson, and trust young players without experience
England is lucky to have such lovely manager Southgate.😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dont Raise your Voice Cundy and oHare Comedy Gold 😂😂😂
You could bring in a bloke from another planet, give him an hour with this group of players, and they would have a better chance of putting a decent performance in
Funny how these lads were giving out about West Ham fans a few months back
He’s basically saying without Kelvin Phillips I don’t trust this back four, just let that sink in and you know he’s not the right man.
spot on. Bellingham needs to play as 8 and foden as 10. Fact
When the blind lead the sighted, both lose their way.
